Gov. Mike DeWine asks state agency to explore Amtrak expansion, including new Cleveland-Columbus-Dayton-Cincinnati route Published: May. 13, 2022, 3:32 p.m. By Susan Glaser, cleveland.com COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the first time since Amtrak proposed a major expansion of passenger rail service in Ohio more than a year ago, Gov. Mike DeWine has expressed interest in learning more about the plan. The governor’s spokesman, Dan Tierney, released a statement this week saying DeWine has asked the Ohio Rail Development Commission, which is part of the state Department of Transportation, to work with Amtrak “to determine the feasibility and cost” of several routes identified by Amtrak in a massive expansion proposal. https://www.cleveland.com/travel/2022/05/gov-mike-dewine-asks-state-agency-to-explore-amtrak-expansion-including-new-cleveland-columbus-dayton-cincinnati-route.html

Love this quote: “I’ve been doing this work for over 20 years and I would watch my top students move to the West Coast, East Coast, Southwest, to the Far East to take jobs in microfabrication,” said Dr. Zorman. “And I never thought I’d see the day that students in Ohio, trained in Ohio, might have the opportunity to stay in Ohio.” Intel reps tour Case Western Reserve University, look to make investments in Ohio higher education By: Homa Bash Posted at 4:33 PM, May 03, 2022 CLEVELAND — Beyond the buzzing of the machines, there’s another buzz in the labs at Case Western Reserve University. Lt. Governor Jon Husted told News 5 that the Intel plant coming to Ohio is the biggest economic development project in the free world. Husted estimates there will be 7,000 construction jobs, 10,000 supply chain Jobs and 3,000 high-tech jobs in just the first of four phases of the Intel plant. Case Western Reserve University is hoping to get a piece of that very large, very lucrative pie. Intel reps recently toured four facilities and labs at CWRU that deal with semiconductor device manufacturing and microfabrication. https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/local-news/intel-reps-tour-case-western-reserve-university-look-to-make-investments-in-ohio-higher-education- Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News

More security and resources to the neighborhood: Cleveland’s Little Italy to get triple police protection under plan that would expand jurisdictions of University Circle, Case Western police Updated: Apr. 28, 2022, 2:21 p.m. | Published: Apr. 28, 2022, 11:36 a.m. By Courtney Astolfi, cleveland.com CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland City Council is poised to approve an expansion of the jurisdictions of University Circle police and Case Western Reserve University police that would increase police coverage in the city’s Little Italy neighborhood, and in a small slice of the Glenville neighborhood. The proposed expansion won approval Wednesday from council’s Safety Committee and could be approved by the full council as soon as May 9. The change would come through amendments to existing agreements that grant the two private departments policing authority in University Circle and around Case’s campus. Along with granting both departments new policing powers in Little Italy, the changes would also allow Case Western Reserve University to expand its policing to a roughly 15-block stretch of Glenville along Wade Park Avenue, where some students live. Cleveland police is the only department currently serving both areas. https://www.cleveland.com/news/2022/04/clevelands-little-italy-to-get-triple-police-protection-under-plan-that-would-expand-jurisdictions-of-university-circle-case-western-police.html- Cleveland: Little Italy: Development and News

From Litt: NASA Glenn gets a stylish, space-age community centerpiece thanks to GSA’s Design Excellence program - commentary Published: Apr. 25, 2022, 5:30 a.m. By Steven Litt, cleveland.com BROOK PARK, Ohio — Scientists and engineers working at the NASA Glenn Research Center have contributed mightily to the history of aeronautics and space exploration. But they’ve done all that work in relatively drab surroundings reflecting the austere, functionalist, mid-century aesthetics of the era in which most of the campus was built. Founded in 1941 as one of what became 10 NASA research centers across the U.S., the NASA Glenn facility in Brook Park, just west of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, comprises 307 acres and 186 buildings. Apart from the impressive industrial look of NASA Glenn’s labs and technical facilities, including wind tunnels and vacuum chambers, the campus is comprised mainly of dozens of architecturally undistinguished low-rise beige brick buildings that have a stark, military look. Now, however, the campus has a new heart. In January, NASA Glenn and the federal General Services Administration finished construction of the gleaming new Research Support Building. https://www.cleveland.com/news/2022/04/nasa-glenn-gets-a-stylish-space-age-community-centerpiece-thanks-to-gsas-design-excellence-program-commentary.html- Cleveland: Random Development and News

Ha! OK you have good eyes Brian…that is an Eaton control panel bolted on, but that’s as much as I’ll concede on my previous statement! 😁😁 The rest if the system is a Frankensteined mix of cheap components. I stand by my assessment! Heck…I bet Parker would have donated components if the city had just asked. Anyway, back to this weird, economical design. 😀- Cleveland: North Coast Harbor Developments
Checked it out today after GLSC with the family. One thing that is noticeable: EXTREMELY cheap hydraulics used on this bridge. Very ironic when you have high quality Parker Hannifin and Eaton here in NEO … and instead go for all cheap foreign built components.- Cleveland: Downtown: Skyline 776 (City Club Apartments)

- Cleveland's near eastside
This is GREAT! Thank you. I recently had a visitor in from California whose dad was born in Slovenia. We only had like 2-3 hours of free time since it was a work trip, and we found ourselves driving around almost entirely the near eastside. He especially loved seeing St. Vitus and the Slovenian National Home...plus a quick pint at Goldhorn. Also side note: My mother was born in one of the houses on E. 26th Street in an old Carpathian-Ukraine section.- Cleveland: Glenville: Development and News
Glenville area north of Wade Park is BOOMING… So many students walking around. New construction and SOLD signs everywhere. Besides Knez, I’m seeing a lot of signs in open plots for “SoLo” (last picture). I keep having a reoccurring dream of getting drinks and appetizers in the old Hough Bakery building.
