"The program will have sponsors and the proceeds will go to the Boys and Girls Club of America, the statement said. James has supported that charity in the past during events over various All-Star Weekends." I do think it's kind of cool that his "decision" will bring in a lot of money for charity

It's slated to become the Western Reserve Fire Museum and Education Center, a repository for local firefighting lore and an outlet for teaching fire safety, especially to children. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/07/1926_cleveland_firehouse_slate.html

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Well, I think the chances of Lebron going to Chicago, NYN, and NJN have just diminished greatly since the package deal with Chris Bosh or Dwayne Wade has been elimnated. I'd say, in order, the most likely now are: Cleveland Miami Chicago I don't think Lebron wants to play with Amare in New York, and there would be no talent with him in New Jersey.

Cleveland: University Circle News (Non-Construction)
I have two problems with this: 1) There is so much more than Medical in the high-lighted area. How can this area be named the "medical district," when there is sooo much more. Without even straining my brain...Cleveland Orchestra/Severance Hall, Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Children's Museum, Cleveand Musuem of Natural History, Botanical Gardens, Little Italy, Case Western Reserve University, CIM, CIA, MOCA, Cultural Gardens, IT Firms, Technology companies, Cleveland School of Arts, Restaurants, Bars.... 2) Overbranding. Just 3 weeks ago, this area has been named the Health-Tech Corridor, in order to recieve state and federal funds. Fine -- I have no problem with that, especially since it is a new way to channel money into the area, plus it keeps the University Circle brand name. But adding a third name? Please stop... Adding another name to it does what, let America know Cleveland is a medical city? Not quite. It's not like everyone in the nation will think Cleveland has become a medical mecca now...basically no one will hear the "news," it does not increase funding, etc. Even the quoted "only 10% of the nation associates Cleveland as a medical city," is shady. This survey was from 2006, two years before as the free national press the Cleveland Clinic was getting almost weekly during 2008-2009 as being the model medical center for health care reform. PLUS, there have been Cleveland Clinic expansions in Las Vegas, Florida, and Abu Dhabi since then. I would bet that if the survey was done in 2010, It would be at least 5%-10% higher in recognition.

Health-tech corridor sounds way better. And keep " university circle" for Christ sake!! That name has taken so long to brand.

Cleveland: 2012 Democratic National Convention?
Well, nothing too newsworthy, but the governor is already talking about it: Governor Ted Strickland Pushes for DNC Convention Tuesday, July 6th, 2010 Ohio Governor Ted Strickland is making an appeal to Democrats in an effort to persuade party leaders to host the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Cleveland, one of four finalist cities announced early this week. "I can think of no better place to play host to a 2012 national political convention than the city of Cleveland," Mr. Strickland said in a statement. The governor referenced the city’s rich history and cultural offerings that may offer convention planners a menu of options. The Ohio governor also noted that “Cleveland provides the ideal backdrop for what is sure to be an historic convention as the city embodies the diversity and determined hope of America." http://www.thestatecolumn.com/articles/2010/07/06/strickland_dnc_8822.php

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
HealthLine buses moving slower than expected on Euclid Avenue Published: Tuesday, July 06, 2010, 4:05 AM Karen Farkas, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio - RTA's HealthLine -- a bus/rapid transit touted as a faster, more efficient way to travel Euclid Avenue -- is moving at about the same slow pace as the bus it replaced. Cleveland is still adjusting traffic lights on Euclid Avenue from Public Square to the Stokes/Windermere rapid station in East Cleveland to shorten the bus trips, nearly two years after the $200 million Euclid Corridor project was completed. A westbound bus ride during weekday mornings and evening rush hours along the 7.1-mile corridor averaged 44 minutes instead of the 33 minutes it is supposed to take, according to the latest data provided by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority for the first three months of this year. The 44 minutes was just three minutes faster than the No. 6 bus that the HealthLine replaced. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/07/healthline_buses_moving_slower.html

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
I had NO idea.... I think Minnillo is out of the loop or doesn't know how to advertise as the Cleveland dining scene has been steadily improving. This quote says it all IMO: "Fine dining is finished in Cleveland," Minnillo says, hurriedly adding, "not because we're closing." BLAH...or maybe we are out of the loop... An American bistro will open up there. Who comes to Little Italy for an American bistro??? Baricelli Inn, a landmark on Cleveland's Murray Hill, to close July 10 Published: Friday, July 02, 2010, 11:57 PM Joe Crea, The Plain Dealer A Cleveland dining landmark will serve its last meals next weekend. The Baricelli Inn, housed in a handsome mansion at Cornell and Murray Hill Roads in Little Italy, will close its doors after dinner service on Saturday, July 10. The inn's operators have already stopped renting bed-and-breakfast rooms in the historic 1896 building, in anticipation of a lessee taking over the property, says Paul Minnillo, chef/owner of The Baricelli. "After 25 years in business, I think it's just time to close," says Minnillo, one of the elder statesmen in Northeast Ohio's culinary scene. "We've had a great run." The restaurateur has been considering closing the inn's storied dining rooms for more than a year. Almost since its inception in 1985, the Baricelli routinely has been named among the region's -- and the nation's -- finest restaurants. The Baricelli name won't completely disappear. Another Minnillo enterprise will live on in a new home at the West Side Market. The Baricelli Cheese Co., which ripens and ages more than 40 varieties of specialty cheeses from around the world, will partner with Dion Tsvedos, who operates The Cheese Shop, Classic Seafood and Urban Herbs at the market. http://www.cleveland.com/dining/index.ssf/2010/07/post_4.html

Look like a few more jobs for the North Coast shore: Great Lakes Towing Co. expansion plans include 700-ton mobile crane and 25 new jobs Published: Thursday, July 01, 2010, 6:02 PM Tom Breckenridge, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A tugboat company with a growing stature in ship building and repair just received a 700-ton lift in its plans to expand. Great Lakes Towing Co. hosted Gov. Ted Strickland and a handful of elected officials Thursday, to celebrate an $8 million development on the Old River Channel, near the mouth of the Cuyahoga River. The state will chip in a $6 million loan, enabling Great Lakes to buy a mobile crane that can lift 700 tons. The company will spend another $2 million to cut a new slip into its waterside property. The work will expand Great Lakes capacity to build new tugboats and repair a wide array of Great Lakes vessels. Company President Ron Rasmus hopes the development will be done in a year and expects to create 25 jobs. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2010/07/great_lakes_towing_co_to_use_a.html

Cleveland: 2012 Democratic National Convention?
Wait, I was wrong in my last post...NC only had 15 electoral votes in 2008. So we can expect 15-16 for 2012. SIDE NOTE: I googled "2012 predictions" and didn't type "electoral votes", and all this End of the World sh!t came up. Damn Mayan calendar...

Cleveland: 2012 Democratic National Convention?
I don't think Charlotte has got anything on Cleveland. I'm most worried about Charlotte because of North Carolina. It's one of the few swing states in the south and it will have 15-16 votes for 2012. 2008 Electoral votes: Ohio: 20 North Carolina: 15 Missouri: 11 Minnesota: 10 However, I think our number of electoral votes will play a huge role in the city selection. Ohio will have 19-20 votes in 2012. Lastly, Ohio is the true definition of a swing state, electing 16 of the past 17 Presidents (we selected Nixon over Kennedy in 1960). North Carolina has only become a swing state recently, since it has historically voted for Republican canidates until this past election where Obama squeaked out a victory.

Cleveland: Catholic Diocese Church Closings
whoa...fighters. St. Emeric protesters barricade themselves inside church Published: Thursday, July 01, 2010, 10:29 AM Michael Sangiacomo, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Ten people have barricaded themselves inside St. Emeric on Cleveland's near West Side, refusing to leave the church that was closed Wednesday as part of the Cleveland Catholic Diocese's downsizing. The protesters remained in the church overnight after a prayer service to mark the closing. Diocese officials were on the scene this morning, but refused to comment. St. Emeric is a 106-year-old Hungarian parish behind the West Side Market. The church complex hosted a Hungarian language school, cultural banquets and a busy Hungarian Scouting program. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/07/st_emeric_protestors_barricade.html
