This is the best possible scenario if we can get Brian Shaw. NBA Championship experience both as a player and coach...he wants to be here...Lebron has said he'd like to play for a former NBA player.

Somewhat similar--I know a girl who seems normal when you hang out with her, but her facebook messages let everyone know how much her life sucks about 3-4 times a day! Not that I necessarily follow her written pain, but it is somewhat similar to what CBC is talking about. I'd say seven of her statuses are depressing and then you'll get the occassional "I love my life." or "I am a lucky, lucky girl and I love all my friends." Confusing as hell.... Does she realize who's reading this sh!t?!?
  3. whoa...follow up story: St. Emeric closing Mass canceled by Cleveland Catholic Diocese Published: Monday, June 28, 2010, 2:00 PM Updated: Monday, June 28, 2010, 2:59 PM Plain Dealer staff CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland Catholic Diocese has canceled the closing Mass planned for Wednesday at St. Emeric after being notified that parish leaders and members would not participate. "As a result of this notification, it does not seem appropriate that a closing Mass be celebrated in such a manner," according to a news release issued today by the diocese. Bishop Richard Lennon had been scheduled to preside over the 4 p.m. closing Mass at St. Emeric, a Hungarian parish on Cleveland's near West Side. It is the last of 50 churches shuttered as part of the diocese's downsizing. http://www.cleveland.com/religion/index.ssf/2010/06/st_emeric_closing_mass_cancele.html

I'm a little scared of that design. Maybe, I was hoping for something more glass and inviting....almost like a RRHOF looking building. If it's somewhat transparent, then maybe this won't be so bad.

David Letterman Has Cleveland’s Back Letterman saved his best stuff for when the inevitable LeBron James discussion came up. Dave told Jay-Z “You’re a guy, and I’m a guy. If LeBron James wants to be a guy, he will stay where he is and not cut the heart out of that city, by leaving Cleveland.” It was a pretty bold statement to say right in front of the part owner of the New Jersey Nets who already admitted he is pursuing LeBron. The best part was that a visibly flustered Jay-Z could only muster “But this is New York City, though.” So, yeah, there’s that. Letterman later made another appeal for Cleveland while simultaneously insulting Jay-Z’s franchise. “He really ought to stay where he is and help the city. He would be a bigger hero that way, and what are his chances of winning with the Knicks? Zero? What are your chances of winning with the Nets? Not that strong.” I’m not sure Jay-Z appreciated that comment, but it was funny to watch him squirm none the less. http://www.waitingfornextyear.com/?p=30347

  9. The czar Lennon church closing is finished....ending with the Hungarian spoken St. Emeric. The sad part about closing all these inner-city churches is not that we're probably going to to lose beautifully preserved architecture, but because in most cases, it gave certain neighborhoods a break from blight, and a presence of old culture....much is and will be lost sadly...especially the loss of authentic ethnic parishes. St. Emeric for example, was/is the largest Hungarian speaking community in North America. Closing of St. Emeric marks end of Cleveland Catholic Diocese downsizing Published: Monday, June 28, 2010, 10:00 AM Michael O'Malley, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- It has been 15 months since Bishop Richard Lennon announced he was closing dozens of parishes in the Cleveland Catholic Diocese, sounding a death knell for mostly urban churches built long ago by people coming to a New World. Week after week, Lennon, in the company of armed police, has presided over church closings throughout the eight-county diocese, saying final Masses and performing rituals to "desanctify" the holy places so they can be sold on the open real estate market. The closing of St. Emeric, which held its last Hungarian Mass on Sunday, signals an end to a downsizing that the bishop has said was necessary because of Catholics leaving the city, a shortage of priests and dwindling collection-basket cash. "He did not want to come back in five or even 10 years and do this process again," said diocese spokesman Robert Tayek. "It's too difficult. The expectation is we will not have to go through this again in the near future." The closing of so many inner-city parishes -- about 70 percent of the 50 -- unraveled the work of Lennon's predecessor, Bishop Anthony Pilla, whose "Church in the City" program toiled for years to preserve urban parishes, calling on the entire diocese for help. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/06/closing_of_st_emeric_marks_end.html

Looks like Lebron is making New York and New Jersey come to NEO: Sources: Nets to meet James first By Chris Broussard ESPN The Magazine All the elaborate recruiting plans for LeBron James will have to change. James will not go on a recruiting tour, his longtime business manager Maverick Carter told ESPN.com Friday. "LeBron is not going on a tour," Carter said. "He never planned to go on a tour and has not been a part of any team's plans for a recruiting trip." Instead, the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar will visit with individual clubs in northeastern Ohio once the free-agency period begins at 12:01 a.m. ET Thursday. Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com's Marc Stein that the latest plan calls for the New Jersey Nets -- led by new owner Mikhail Prokhorov and minority owner/longtime James pal Jay-Z -- to be the first team to meet James face to face. No one from James' camp, though, would confirm the meeting. On Saturday, a source told ESPNNewYork.com's Ian O'Connor that the Knicks also will be meeting with James on Thursday. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5329335
  15. More medical expansion, training, and service for University Circle and CWRU: June 24, 2010 Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation Grant to Enhance Physician and Nursing Education with Student-Run Free Clinic and More at CWRU Case Western Reserve University's proposed student-run Saturday Free Clinic, slated to open in 2011 for Cleveland's underserved population, will provide the training grounds for future doctors and nurses to learn to work as healthcare partners for the patient. The Clinic would be a student-led partnership with the already existing resource for the community, The Free Medical Clinic of Greater Cleveland. The clinic is part of a project called "Interprofessional Learning Exchange and Development Program" (I-LEAD) at Case Western Reserve University's School of Medicine and Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing that received a $640,000 grant from the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation. This project supports the foundation's goals to improve education for health professionals in the interest of public health and to reflect changes in the healthcare system. "This grant works toward changing the culture of healthcare. In addition to providing services, student doctors and nurses will experience how people think and function in their different roles as health professionals and learn to work as a team," said Daniel Ornt, vice dean for education and academic affairs at the School of Medicine. http://blog.case.edu/case-news/2010/06/24/ilead

  17. http://www.cleveland.com/waterloo/index.ssf/2010/06/meet_waterloo_burgeoning_arts_and_entertainment_district_bursts_with_revitalized-neighborhood_pride.html Meet Waterloo: Burgeoning arts and entertainment district bursts with revitalized-neighborhood pride Published: Friday, June 25, 2010, 12:00 AM Updated: Friday, June 25, 2010, 10:26 AM John Petkovic, The Plain Dealer Esquire called it one of the Top 100 bars in America. Its jukebox is the toast of the town. Bands local and national alike rave about playing there. And yet Cindy Barber and Mark Leddy had something else in mind when they opened their music club on Waterloo Road in Collinwood. Yes, they imagined a premier club. But they also wanted to create an incubator for activity on a street long written off for dead. In the 10 years since the Beachland opened, the street has come alive as a strip of shops selling everything from records to arts, crafts and coffee. On Saturday, all that liveliness spills into the street, thanks to Waterloo Arts Fest. The seventh annual block party boasts bands, performers, DJs, food and arts vendors -- not to mention a neighborhood pride that has transformed Waterloo Road. http://www.cleveland.com/waterloo/index.ssf/2010/06/meet_waterloo_burgeoning_arts_and_entertainment_district_bursts_with_revitalized-neighborhood_pride.html
  18. Very unique art: Cleveland: Slavic Village sculpture changes the 'landscape' Kim Wendel Updated: 6/24/2010 8:31:56 PM Posted: 6/24/2010 5:43:02 PM CLEVELAND -- It's a piece of art that's really changing the landscape in the Slavic Village neighborhood. You can see it from I-77 or even from a nearby bike trail. It's the work of local artist Jake Beckman. Here in Slavic Village, the seeds of an idea have grown into a public display of beauty and creativity. The 40-foot-tall Morgana Run Trailhead marker is definitely going to turn some heads. It resembles a giant garlic flower, with its purple petals pointing the way to the bike trail. http://www.wkyc.com/news/local/news_article.aspx?storyid=138484&catid=3
  19. Breakthrough Schools' charters hope to add 3 Cleveland sitesPublished: Thursday, June 24, 2010, 8:27 PM Thomas Ott, The Plain Dealer A group of charter schools plans to nearly double in size next year, but the hopes may hinge on getting use of Cleveland school district buildings. Breakthrough Schools is now an umbrella for four independent Cleveland charters: Citizens' Academy, Entrepreneurship Preparatory School, Village Preparatory School and The Intergenerational School. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/06/cleveland_charters_plan_to_add.html

Does anyone know a name I could contact? Is anyone heading this up?? Oh, and in regards to E.12, I've heard that the population is still on the rise.

  25. I bet the Casino has a lot to do with it. Maybe even Convention Center/Med Mart, Aquarium, future large scale events (2012 Rock hall induction, 2012 Gay Games, 2013 Senior Games, Cavs and other sports Playoffs, medical conventions...and the prospects of getting more, especially with the Clinic and healthcare continuing to expand.)
