Kids break into 'flash mob' dance at Tower City Center in effort to keep LeBron James in Cleveland Published: Thursday, June 17, 2010, 2:15 PM Michael Sangiacomo, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Lunchtime shoppers stopped in their tracks in Tower City Center this afternoon as more than 200 children broke into a routine worthy of the Fox television megahit "Glee." The dancers, ages 8 to 18 from the Cleveland and Akron Boys and Girls clubs and the Shaker Dance Academy, burst into choreographed movement around the fountain and up the marble stairs as the sound of Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out for a Hero" blasted from speakers. They went right into Usher's "More" and when the song was over, they dispersed, melting into the crowd. The "hero" in question is LeBron James, and they are hoping to see "more" of him. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/06/kids_break_into_impromptu_danc.html

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
To quote from the Parkworks thread: "Ann Zoller believes creating exciting public spaces is not just about carefree recreation — it’s a key to making Cleveland a place more people want to live. She’s emerging as a key ally of younger politicians, such as Joe Cimperman and Chris Ronayne, who are gaining in influence and trying to put their optimistic stamp on the city. " It's great to see the next generation(s) ready to push Cleveland forward, because like punch alluded to, most of us see Cleveland as a clean slate. However, we honor and appreciate our history at the same time. IMO the most influential next generation Clevelanders right now are: Joe Cimperman Chris Ronayne Baiju Shah Joe Marinucci Ari Maron Ann Zoller Also, Dr. Toby Cosgrove (good at what he does...just stop knocking over old buildings!!) President Barbara Snyder (CWRU) President Ronald Berkman (CSU) I know people will be ready to throw out more names! (I'm guessing Zaremba, Symon, Welser-Möst, Bruell, Lebron!...but I'm sticking to my top 6 list right now)

Greater Cleveland's greatness is all up to you Published: Thursday, June 17, 2010, 6:00 AM Regina Brett, The Plain Dealer What's great about greater Cleveland? That was the question posed at the Lunch & Learn event Tuesday at Jones Day law firm in downtown Cleveland. Dennis Lafferty, the executive assistant to the managing partner -- a long title that really means he keeps the entire operation running smoothly -- moderated a panel discussion about the issue. http://www.cleveland.com/brett/blog/index.ssf/2010/06/greater_clevelands_greatness_i.html

Developers of Cleveland's medical mart explain why they think the concept will work Published: Wednesday, June 16, 2010, 5:00 AM Laura Johnston, The Plain Dealer CHICAGO, Illinois -- The concept is untested: Persuade dozens of established health-care companies to build showrooms for their hospital beds, MRI machines and ventilators. Then, lure medical trade shows to adjoining convention center space, where smaller companies can erect temporary exhibits, and provide cutting-edge meeting space for seminars and continuing education. Chicago developer MMPI proposes to do all of the above in Cleveland, and on Tuesday company officials offered their most detailed explanation to date as to why they think the nation needs a medical mart. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/06/developers_of_clevelands_medic.html

^^What are you talking about? Lebron would be stupid to say what his decision is now. He is being courted by everybody....his national attention will only continue to raise his legend....hence sponsors now and down the road. He is getting free media attention everyday... turn on sportscenter, and there he is. Why would you or he want to stop that?? I'm sure he is making money off this somehow, at least he better be, and who can blame him. All the rumors keep him in everyone's mind, and keep him in the national media buzz. This is FREE press and advertisement for him. And in the end he's going to get a nice contract. Why in the world would he want any of this to stop or go away?? If anything he should find ways to milk it more.....like, ready for this.....not make a decision until August.

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
Allen Theatre makeover concerns get some answers Published: Sunday, July 11, 2010, 11:59 PM Tony Brown, The Plain Dealer Wow. It was gratifying to see so many comments on cleveland.com about last Sunday's Page 1 story on the makeover of PlayhouseSquare's Allen Theatre into a new home for the Cleveland Play House and Cleveland State University. Figuring in the e-mails and phone calls, the response was overwhelmingly positive to the plan to create a 1,000-seat, three-venue facility by renovating the Allen and building a new structure in what is now a parking lot alongside it. But, after tossing out some of the nuttier views, there were also some legitimate concerns, mostly having to do with preservation, parking and police. This is an important turning point in the history of three of the city's most valuable community assets -- PlayhouseSquare, CSU and the Play House -- so let's take a moment to address those issues. Plays first, purists second Parking is not a problem There's safety in numbers http://www.cleveland.com/onstage/index.ssf/2010/07/allen_theatre_makeover_concern.html

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
RTA park-and-ride lots and bus bicycle racks are popular with riders Published: Tuesday, June 15, 2010, 8:15 AM Karen Farkas, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio - Two investments by RTA -- parking lots in suburban areas and bike racks attached to the front of buses -- have helped attract riders and keep the transit agency solvent. This month marks 20 years for park-and-ride lots and 10 years for bike racks. Both remain highly popular, said Joe Calabrese, general manager of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority. "We are helping save commuters money because if they have a car they drive it less and get lower insurance rates," he said. "It reduces congestion and is good for the environment." http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/06/rta_park-and-ride_lots_and_bus.html

Arts Cleveland/Cuyahoga County Local News News A vote Monday afternoon by the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Board of Trustees confirms the museum will take the final step in its building and expansion project with planned completion in 2013. In a unanimous vote, the board approved completion of the final phase of the project at its regularly scheduled June meeting. Throughout the past 18 months, the leadership of the museum has taken a strategic, phased approach to the management of the renovation and expansion in order to ensure that the museum appropriately paced the project with its fundraising and financing. In December 2009, the board approved the construction of the museum’s west wing structure; atrium roof and enclosures; and administrative offices, as well as mechanicals, electrical and plumbing throughout the building. With this final vote yesterday, the board approved the last step of the final phase of the project, namely interior finishes of the north and west wings currently under construction, including flooring, painting and interior glass; landscaping in the atrium and throughout the museum’s campus; and the build-out of the new Lifelong Learning Center, museum store and dining facilities. “This is an exciting day for the Cleveland Museum of Art and for Cleveland,” said Deborah Gribbon, interim director of the museum. “With this vote of approval, the board has demonstrated its full commitment to the completion of this transformational project, designed to enhance the museum’s position as a community center and cultural resource for the region and beyond.” http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/14019 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Cleveland Museum of Art board OKs renovation's final phase Published: Tuesday, June 15, 2010, 12:30 PM Steven Litt, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The next stop for the $350 million expansion and renovation at the Cleveland Museum of Art is the finish line in three years. ^^ honestly not really. Most neighborhood people seem to go to Gallucci's or Alesci's. Each place usually has a few items...like Corbo's or the wine store near the top of the hill. Mia Bella opened this weekend, and I hear they had a decent showing. Here's a good picture of the place: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=228816&id=108594565829265
