Cleveland: Slavic Village Velodrome
Well it is going to bring in who knows how many visitors every month. Local businesses will most likely see more business. And I'm sure a nearby storefront/building or two will have a business that somehow connects with the Velodrome/Velodrome crowd. Long-term? who knows. But for the city and region as a whole, this is a great addition of another "destination attaction."

Cleveland State University getting closer to goal of hosting medical students By Janet Okoben May 12, 2010, 9:00AM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland could soon be part of a public-university program producing doctors with an interest in helping underserved areas of the city. A committee -- representing Cleveland State University and the Northeast Ohio Universities College of Medicine & Pharmacy -- has recommended an expansion of the Rootstown-based medical school that could have students from CSU and other area public universities taking classes and completing training in Cleveland. It's a lot of "coulds," but the urban primary-care specialty at NEOUCOM could be on track by 2012, said Kathleen Ruff, chief of staff at NEOUCOM and a member of the study committee http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/05/cleveland_state_getting_closer.html

Cuyahoga commissioners consider payment for escalating cost of Juvenile Justice Center By Laura Johnston, The Plain Dealer May 11, 2010, 1:40PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cuyahoga County commissioners today approved a $400,000 bill from an engineering firm, bringing its total payment to $4.1 million more than its contract called for eight years ago. All told, Ralph Tyler Companies has collected $9.6 million to design the inside and outside of a Juvenile Justice Center on Cleveland's East Side. The contract awarded to the Cleveland company in 2002 was for $5.4 million. The bulk of Tyler's extra work -- $3.1 million worth -- resulted from a 2005 decision by county officials to add a court tower to a planned detention center. The latest bill is for additional work, including the designing of parking lots and sidewalks. http://www.cleveland.com/cuyahoga-county/index.ssf/2010/05/cuyahoga_commissioners_consider_payment_for_escalating_cost_of_juvenile_justice_center.html

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo
Planners consider adding train, more polar bears to busy Cleveland Metroparks Zoo By James Ewinger May 11, 2010, 6:56AM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Imagine taking a train from the parking lot of an expanded Cleveland Metroparks Zoo that might include a larger polar bear habitat. And imagine the same train whisking you around the zoo's campus instead of pedestrians and the cumbersome trams competing for the same paved ways. These are some of the ideas being discussed as zoo officials and hired planners start to formulate a strategic plan for the next 10 years. The 183-acre zoo's first plan came together in 1993 after the RainForest exhibit opened. Several years ago, another plan looked forward at possible new exhibits that ultimately included the Elephant Crossing, to be completed next year.
