  6. A Cleveland Clinic Brand....and up to Euclid Ave! Huron Hospital plans to expand along Euclid By Steven Litt, The Plain Dealer February 09, 2010, 4:08AM EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The details are still skimpy and there's no date set for a full unveiling. But Dr. Gus Kious, chief administrative officer of Huron Hospital in East Cleveland, confirmed publicly for the first time Monday that the hospital is planning an expansion along Euclid Avenue aimed at strengthening its ability to treat diabetes and other chronic illnesses. East Cleveland Mayor Gary Norton, who took office Jan. 1 after defeating incumbent Eric Brewer, was elated by Kious' announcement and portrayed it as an early sign of a potential turnaround for the poverty-stricken Cleveland suburb. 7. Great Column: To fix the city, first fix Cleveland's schools: Phillip Morris By Phillip Morris, The Plain Dealer February 09, 2010, 7:09AM That neglect is what diminishes our future. Simply, we failed to fix the Cleveland schools. We busily constructed stadiums and museums, and, in some cases, reconstructed schools that will soon be shuttered, but we didn't save this city's children. Many people, myself included, stayed in Cleveland during the growth decades of the '90s, because the civic and economic progress seemed real. The Gateway sports complex, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and the Great Lakes Science Center helped us dream of a return to municipal relevance -- if not greatness. http://www.cleveland.com/morris/index.ssf/2010/02/the_mere_illusion_of_growth_an.html

  13. More opposition/negative articles from major papers Ohioans wonder whether new rail line will be too slow, underutilized By Stephen Koff, The Plain Dealer February 06, 2010, 8:55AM WASHINGTON -- Seventy-nine mph is not high speed. Yet that's the fastest that passenger trains between Cleveland and Cincinnati will go when they start running, possibly as soon as 2012. This puzzles and disappoints some Ohioans, especially because President Barack Obama announced new rail lines on Jan. 28 as cogs in a national "high speed" network. http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2010/02/ohioans_wonder_whether_new_rai.html

  15. NASA Glenn workers perplexed by Obama's bid to scrap moon mission By Tom Breckenridge, The Plain Dealer February 02, 2010, 7:16PM BROOK PARK, Ohio -- President Barack Obama's budget bid to scrap NASA's back-to-the-moon mission shocked scores of scientists and engineers at NASA Glenn Research Center and left them wondering about the center's future, union officials say. NASA Glenn Director Woodrow Whitlow met with hundreds of employees this morning and a dozen reporters in the afternoon at the Brook Park campus to answer questions and quell anxiety over Obama's proposal to sack the Constellation program. NASA is six years and $9 billion into the mission to return astronauts to the Moon and then to Mars, as proposed by former President George Bush. 24. Wisconsin man to be new director of Cleveland Metroparks By James Ewinger January 28, 2010, 7:00AM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland Metroparks system may be one of the last assets in Northeast Ohio that remains the envy of the nation, and the park commissioners believe they have chosen a new executive director capable of guiding the Emerald Necklace into its second century. His name is Brian Zimmerman, chief of operations for Milwaukee County Parks, Recreation and Culture, which makes him the second in command at the 15,000-acre park system that many compare to the Cleveland Metroparks.
