Investor group hopes to buy and renovate Cleveland Athletic Club building By Michelle Jarboe September 23, 2009, 5:59PM A group of investors is hoping to buy and renovate the Cleveland Athletic Club building, a Euclid Avenue landmark that has been languishing and mired in litigation. Cleveland Heights real estate investor Ned Weingart said today that he and other investors have signed a letter of intent to purchase the building from developer Eli Mann. The deal is far from done, but it already has fueled hopes among former Cleveland Athletic Club members who want to revive the defunct athletic and social institution. (Ned) Hill, Dean and Distinguished Scholar, Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs WHAT: A press conference announcing the city’s participation in CSU’s “Cleveland Management Academy,” a customized offering of the Center for Leadership Development at the Levin College of Urban Affairs that prepares public management personnel for the challenges of the 21st century WHEN: Monday, September 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. WHERE: Levin College of Urban Affairs, Glickman-Miller Hall Atrium, 1717 Euclid Avenue BACKGROUND: With the financial support of a $181,500 grant from the Cleveland Foundation, an initial group of 30 City of Cleveland mid-level administrators will begin a one-year concentrated program in Public Management Development to build upon their management skills. The program has been custom designed by the Center for Leadership in the Levin College of Urban Affairs to professionalize and empower the public work force and has been developed to meet needs addressed in Mayor Jackson’s “Operations Efficiency Task Force.” Students involved in the first cohort as well as senior administrators and program developers from the City, CSU and the Cleveland Foundation will be present to provide program details and take questions. It is anticipated that as many as 2,000 city employees will eventually be eligible to participate in the program. There used to be only Mi Pueblo about 4 years ago...now we have mi pueblo, Euclid Tavern, Hookah cafe, and now the new Indian place...pretty quick addition to the little section of Euclid. Not to mention Circle 118, the new building adjacent to the Euclid Tavern, the CIA new renovations and construction, all happening seemingly at once. Much of this may be spin off from the construction of the Village at 115 in 2005. EDIT: I'll let everyone know if I find out the name of the Indian place first..

Cleveland State and The Q win opening-round NCAA men's tournament games for 2011 By Elton Alexander September 21, 2009, 8:06PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- First-round men's games on March 18 and 20, 2011 have been awarded to CSU and will be played in Quicken Loans Arena. CSU hosted men's tournament games at the Wolstein Center in 2000 and 2005. In 2006 and 2007, the NCAA women played first a regional, and then the Final Four at The Q. "Congratulations to the Sports Commission and to Cleveland State," said new MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher. "The Q is definitely a facility we know is one of the best in the country for basketball." ArcelorMittal fires up one blast furnace in Cleveland By Frank Bentayou September 21, 2009, 3:59PM ArcelorMittal stoked up a furnace at its Cleveland steel mill Friday and resumed production over the weekend, bringing about 150 workers back from layoffs that the company ordered earlier this year. ... The results of firing up the first furnace after months of idleness should be apparent to Cleveland residents in the area and to motorists commuting into the city from the south: Plumes of smoke have begun to appear from stacks rising from the plant.
