Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport gets biggest renovation in more than a decade Posted by Tom Feran, The Plain Dealer September 16, 2009 17:40PM CLEVELAND, Ohio — Commercial development is taking off inside Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. New businesses arrive almost weekly. The terminal is getting its biggest renovation in more than a decade. Fresh paint and the removal of window obstructions have given a cleaner, brighter look even to areas under reconstruction. When the makeover is finished, sometime next year, the airport's retail and restaurant space will have almost doubled. Revenues are expected to be twice what they were. Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
As much as we would wish this, it's still a casino...where a majority of the patrons will not want to leave once they get there. As we all know, casino's are designed to make you lose track of time. Food and drinks provided, entertainment, no windows, no cell phone service in many cases... This casino will have restaurants, bars, etc...but I am with everyone else in wishing what is put in is as mininal as possible, with the aid of city intervention or guidelines.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
I would say at least two hours later. What if you get out of work at 5 pm on a Friday and wanted to spend the weekend in Cincy. It couldn't work. Do they have these earlier times so it doesn't conflict with the freight rail that will be using the rail line more so in the evening?? Either way... Let's go 3C!

Kucinich calls on Jackson to save closed church buildings through eminent domain Posted by Michael O'Malley, The Plain Dealer September 16, 2009 11:24AM CLEVELAND,Ohio — In an effort to preserve Cleveland's ethnic history along with the future of its neighborhoods, U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich is calling on the city to take over closed Catholic churches by eminent domain. I have a much stronger feeling that Issue 3 is going to pass this time around. It was very close to passing last time, and with players like Dan Gilbert continuing to push...who is trusted in most peoples eyes...I see a shift in opinion coming up (I voted NO on the issue last time FYI). This new proposal has caused my ears to perk up, and I'm guessing it has for other people too. BUT, I do share the same concerns as mentioned with building more restaurants, concert venue, etc..

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
In the comments section of the article (yes I was staring at a train wreck and couldn't look away) the Reporter posted this: "Sorry it took me a little while to respond to your question. I was out of the office for a bit. Last year, the Wolstein Group and Fairmount Properties announced that the project would include a 1 Hotel and Residences, a luxury hotel with condos on top. 1 Hotel isn't on the lineup now, though. Scott and Iris Wolstein told me today that they are talking to another hotel flag, a boutique concept, about the 150-room hotel and conference center on the plans. They haven't announced the hotel brand yet."

I remember starting a thread on them last year, and we were already speculating from day one. The thread must be getting cleaned...

The one you want back
I honestly can't believe the difference in West End. Although most of us can't relate to what the areas were like when they were destroyed. But I would have never guess the magnitude of what was there! Even those Cleveland has lost most of the Warehouse District, the near eastside inner city, the flats, downtown gems (hippodrome), and neighborhoods lost to freeway construction...from this picture alone, I feel that Cincy has lost much much more.

oakiehigh...do you have more of a modern day picture? Not too familiar with Cincy overhead.

Congrats on the move downtown! If you can hold out, Titan's Gym will be a the best option Downtown. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2009/07/titans_gym_to_open_20000_squar.html http://www.titansgym.com/ I'd also check out Cleveland State Rec Center rates for the time being. That's the best facility in the downtown area IMO http://www.csuohio.edu/services/recreationcenter/membership/community/index.html

Cleveland: Catholic Diocese Church Closings
Some good news out of Lakewood. Also, I hope the second comment isn't true..although I wouldn't doubt it.. Lakewood moves to protect, preserve ornate St. James Catholic Church as closure looms Posted by Michael O’Malley/The Plain Dealer September 14, 2009 09:00AM LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Even if the Cleveland Catholic Diocese goes ahead with the planned closing of St. James Church, the twin-towered building may be protected. Proposed legislation in Lakewood City Council would prohibit the diocese or any future owner from tearing down the church or gutting its ornate interior. Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
Opportunity Corridor in Cleveland needed to spur development more now than 4 years ago, when Ohio Department of Transportation plans stalled Posted by Karen Farkas / The Plain Dealer September 10, 2009 20:41PM The need for a parkway from East 55th Street to University Circle to spawn economic and community development has grown even greater since the proposal has lain fallow for four years because of a lack of funds. With so much vacant property near the proposed Opportunity Corridor, the development possibilities are limitless, said Terri Hamilton Brown, project director of the group that will coordinate and promote the project... ODOT meeting The Ohio Department of Transportation is holding two meetings on Tuesday, Sept. 22, to get public input on routes for the proposed East Side boulevard known as Opportunity Corridor. Case Western Reserve University Spartans Athletics Discussion
Stating a Case for football excellence is pretty easy with these Spartans: Terry Pluto by Terry Pluto/Plain Dealer Columnist Thursday September 03, 2009, 7:14 PM John Kuntz/The Plain Dealer The Case Western Reserve Spartans have become another small-college football juggernaut on the Northeast Ohio scene -- even if not many local football fans are aware of it. CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Before every game, star quarterback Dan Whalen doubles as the team barber. His favorite target is Jeff Brown, and the North Olmsted product has taken the field with his hair cut into a question mark.
