Cleveland: Best Kept Secrets!
Not to get props from MTS, but the housing stock and apartment buildings just north of CWRU are incredibly stunning. I'm talking about Wade Park Ave, Ashbury Ave, (E. 105th inbetween Ashbury and Wade Park), Orrville Ave, Lee Ave, MLK area...and of course Glenville itself. Do some "google streetview" and look around a little bit...or better yet, check out the area.

Well, for what it's worth..the new Cleveland Cavelier: Shaq proves to be 'Raw' wrestling talent Tuesday, July 28, 2009 Pat Galbincea Plain Dealer Reporter If Shaquille O'Neal manages his time on the basketball court next season as he did Monday night as guest general manager on World Wrestling Entertainment's "Monday Night Raw" in Washington, Cavs fans will be in for a treat. On his way to the ring, the personable Shaq came out, shook hands with fans and tore up a Kobe Bryant poster. But the only boos he drew all night was when he said, "Hey D.C., LeBron James told me to tell you hello." Gray said the man is a suspect in the West 44th Street fire and is also suspected of setting some or all of the other 10 fires in the area recently. Gray said there had been an "unusual amount of fires in this area lately" and that is what had fire surveillance teams on the scene.

Case Western Reserve University Spartans Athletics Discussion
HA! Check it out, Western Reserve and Case really did have a great history, and I'm glad they're starting to speak of it more lately. Even though this was "back in the day." Check out Ohio State's win-loss record vs these opponents: OSU vs Case: 11-10-2 OSU vs Western Reserve: 5-6-1 http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/fls/17300//pdf/fb/m-footbl-opponents.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=17300 But I say let's wait another 90 more years before we play them again...

Case Western Reserve University Spartans Athletics Discussion
Man, when was the last time Case Football and Ohio State Football were on a cover together. Maybe 1918?? (See Attached). http://www.case.edu/athletics/varsity/news.htm#s1_page2 WHALEN IN GOOD COMPANY ON OCF'S LIST... CLEVELAND, OH - Case Western Reserve University senior quarterback Dan Whalen (Willoughby, OH) has been named to the OhioCollegeFootball.Com (OCF) “Great Eight” team which highlights Ohio’s top eight players [All Divisions]. The Great Eight will be featured in the upcoming OCF Preseason Magazine (see cover below) which will be available on Monday, July 27. Whalen, a 2008 Galiardi Trophy [Division III Player of the Year] finalist, is in good company. Appearing with him on the list are Terrelle Pryor (QB, Ohio State, Div. I), Barry Church (DB, Toledo, Div. I), Eugene Jarvis (RB, Kent State, Div. I), Billy Cundiff (QB, Ashland, Div. II), Sean Heenan (DL, Dayton, Div. IAA), James Herbert (DL, Mount Union, Div. III) and Cecil Shots (WR, Mount Union, Div. III). “It’s neat - my mom sent it to me because she’s subscribes to that website,” Whalen said. “I’m excited and it’s an exciting time right now for all of us. My teammates are calling asking me if I am ready for camp. We are all itching to get going and for me, my last time around, it’s going to be something special hopefully.” Under Whalen’s guidance, the Spartans football team completed its second consecutive undefeated regular season (10-0, 3-0 UAA, 0-1 NCAA) in 2008 and currently has a 21-game regular season winning streak dating back to November of 2006. Case Western Reserve also repeated as UAA champions, their third overall, and made its second straight NCAA Division III playoff appearance. Whalen guided the team to a conference-leading 37.8 points a game (18th in the country) a year ago. The two-time first team All-UAA honoree and Offensive Player of the Year accumulated 2,192 yards through the air on 163-of-265 passing (61.5-percent), throwing 17 touchdowns and only five interceptions. He also scrambled for 271 yards on the ground and was second on the team with six rushing touchdowns. His 148.4 efficiency rating was the highest for a starting quarterback in the UAA. “Dan has proven he is one of the best quarterbacks in the country,” Head Coach Greg Debeljak said. “He is a great leader and very versatile. There are so many things we do because of his strengths and he makes people around him better. I have coached three other players at his position that have gotten professional football looks – he is every bit of football player that they are.” The Spartans finished 2008 ranked 18th in the country and were recently ranked 20th in The Sporting News newly released 2009 College Football publication. They open the season September 5 at home against Kenyon College at 12:00 p.m. This game will be part of “Heritage Day” where the modern day team will honor the University’s great gridiron history by wearing retro uniforms - click here http://www.case.edu/athletics/varsity/news/2008-09/heritageday.html

^^great. thanks for the reply. Side question, membership will get you in all the locations, even the potential OC one? correct? I was also thinking that by being on the Prospect side of things, you will have high visibility from everyone who goes to the Cavs and Indians games. Another HUGE marketing plus.

Cleveland: Local Media News & Discussion
An interesting little shout out at the PD from the Cleveland Leader: http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/10759 PD Wants to Profit From Cleveland's Carcass Submitted by Roldo Bartimole on July 24, 2009 - 9:58am. Cleveland/Cuyahoga County The Plain Dealer should desist and apologize for trying to lure city employees to the suburbs. The PD has put out a “Dear Mayor or Community Director” letter seeking ads that will lure city employees, now free from the residency law, to the suburbs. The Pee Dee’s stake in this attempt to migrate city residents to the suburbs: advertising. Here’s what the pitch says: “On Thursday, June 11, 2009, the Plain Dealer reported on the end of the Cleveland Residency Rule for the City of Cleveland city workers. The end of the residency rule means that city workers can move to the suburbs immediately. “These workers are heavily concentrated in the zip code 44111, West Park. “This is a great opportunity for suburbs like yours to specifically market to these residents with stable jobs and growing families, to consider your city as an option for relocation.” Mayor Frank Jackson should immediately call upon the PD to stop this campaign to remove Cleveland residents to the suburbs. What kind of Regionalism – which the PD constantly says we need – is this? The plea asks for internet ads that will help lure people from the city. Under “DETAILS OF THE PROGRAM” the PD offers a direct mail portion, stating “8 by 10 full color postcard, delivered to 6,606 residents of 44111 who earn at least $40K in income.” For an Internet portion, the PD offers “Banner ads delivered to the real estate homepage and the city section of Cleveland.com. with 25,000 impressions and ads that will remain “live for 30 days.” The cost, according to the Plain Dealer, $4,500. So for a campaign for $4,500 the PD will sell out the city of Cleveland. Great people. For more information call, Misty Pennock at 216 970-5928. Or maybe contact Publisher Terry Egger at 999-4216 or Editor Susan Goldberg at 999-4123 and tell them of your pleasure or displeasure at the PD trying to help carve up what’s left of the carcass we called Cleveland.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
There were also two response in Today's paper...I like the first one: Cleveland's lakefront shows signs of life beyond downtown Posted by Elva Brodnick, Eastlake July 24, 2009 04:05AM Categories: Letters I found Joe Frolik's column Sunday to be interesting because it appears he thinks that if it isn't happening downtown on Cleveland's lakefront, then nothing's happening on Cleveland's lakefront. I beg to differ. More fromhttp://blog.cleveland.com/letters/2009/07/clevelands_lakefront_shows_sig.html -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This second one...blah Cleveland's lakefront should be a priority and a draw Posted by Kerry McCormack, Cleveland July 24, 2009 04:05AM Categories: Letters After reading Joe Frolik's article on lakefront development in Cleveland, I sighed with relief, knowing that someone else in Cleveland is thinking about our lakefront possibilities. As a young Clevelander, going into my senior year at Miami University, I have a heartfelt connection to the city I love, as well as an excited spirit about its potential future. Unfortunately, our city seems to have stopped at potential. http://blog.cleveland.com/letters/2009/07/clevelands_lakefront_should_be.html

This is the last Hungarian Church left FYI: St. Elizabeth of Hungary could be center of movement to revive a Hungarian neighborhood at Buckeye Road Posted by Robert L. Smith, Plain Dealer Reporter July 23, 2009 04:00AM CLEVELAND -- On a desolate sweep of Cleveland's Buckeye Road, between Woodland Avenue and East 90th Street, it's difficult to imagine crowded bakeries, bustling sidewalks and taverns roaring to a gypsy violin. The old Hungarian neighborhood is so far gone as to be almost erased. Until you come upon St. Elizabeth of Hungary and walk into a church as big and as beautiful as the day it was consecrated in 1922.
