Cleveland: Cleveland Clinic News & Info
I don't know who I missed all this information...maybe it's the thread name, but all the info is HUGE for the city and region. The lifting of the Stem Cell ban on federal funds and the new Cleveland Clinic Laboratory will have lasting effects on our economy, reputation, new construction, and new jobs. Very exciting news in the past few weeks…as long as the job cuts don’t occur from the “franchise fee.” In regards to the Stem Cells, I’m sure BioEnterprise is already on it with the high probability of federal funds as well as relocating other companies into the region.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Ken, I don't know if this has been addressed before, but where would the terminal be for Cleveland? Will the less-than-impressive "Amtrak platform" be used, or would it be possible to tie it into Terminal Tower?? Or other?

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
From down south..: http://www.indyweek.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A331163 Imagine Raleigh without sprawl 18 MAR 2009 • by Bob Geary, In the run-up to this week's public hearing on Raleigh's draft comprehensive plan, the advice to city leaders from a stream of visiting experts has been remarkably unified. Success, experts say, depends on taking city life "back to the future." The era of suburban sprawl is ending, these planners maintain, not simply because of high gas prices, but because it is fundamentally unsustainable. As Christopher Leinberger, a fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., put it in a recent talk, the more "drivable suburban" neighborhoods a city allows, the lower the quality of life becomes for everyone living in them. The fastest-growing market now, said Leinberger, a developer, is for "walkable urban" places: the kind Raleigh doesn't have, yet needs to create, that are modeled on what cities were before cars took them over. Such places are far more complicated to build and manage than the suburbs, Leinberger said. But done right, these areas improve as they grow. They have more cultural diversity and housing options—and with public transit, the chance for people to save money by owning fewer cars, or none. If Raleigh fails to create them, Leinberger warned, "You will be left in the 20th century." The question for Raleigh is where these walkable urban places should be.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Cavs are going for the franchise record tonight for WINS in one season. Record (57-13) and they have 12 games remaining...8 of which are at home. Cavs vs. NJ Nets Tipoff: 7 p.m., The Q. TV/radio: Fox Sports Ohio; WTAM AM/1100. Here's a preview from cavs.com: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- March 25, 2009 The Optimist Mojn, y’all! I’ve been called an Optimist – and today I’m checking in from the suddenly-Spring-like shores of Great Lake Erie. I’ll bet you’ve never seen the greeting – “Mojn!” – before. That’s on accounta I just learnt it this weekend at the outstanding Cleveland Film Festival. It’s pronounced “moyn” and it was in a Danish movie called “Terribly Happy” about a rogue cop who gets banished to a strange, small town. In this remote part of Denmark, it’s how they say both “hello” and “goodbye.” Like “aloha” for Hawai’ians or “ciao” for people in southern California. We also wanted to make this good for everyone in Cleveland, whether it's a restaurant owner or a hotel or just a person who's a music fan.” ... Cleveland: Marketing the City
From the Monday paper of the Miami Hearld: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cleveland rocks, that much we know -- but why? While music remains Cleveland's big attraction, the city's also cookin' with celebrity chefs, fine arts and big league sports. BY DOUGLAS TRATTNER Posted on Sun, Mar. 22, 2009 Long before the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame threw open its doors in 1995, the gritty city on a river and Great Lake had music coursing through its veins. Not only was the phrase 'rock 'n' roll'' first uttered over Cleveland airwaves, but that tagline almost simultaneously accompanied the world's first rock concert. The hottest music market between New York and Chicago, Cleveland delivered break-out acts like the O'Jays, Raspberries and James Gang. While there are many reasons to visit Cleveland, the music scene, both past and present, remains one of the most popular. So, when the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced that for the first time in more than a decade the induction ceremony would be held in Cleveland on April 4, music fans everywhere began planning their road trips. Better still, for the first time in the event's 24-year history, it is open to the public -- and already sold out.... http://www.miamiherald.com/living/travel/story/955407.html Also a link entitled "Going to Cleveland" ...pretty decent: http://www.miamiherald.com/news/more-info/story/955406.html

Cleveland: Retail News
If these stores were to happen downtown, there really would be no reason for me to go shop in the suburbs. I really only buy my suits downtown...this would be good enough/more than enough to keep up with the rest of my wardrobe. Hopefully, some of these stores will be set up by the time I move back home next year. (fingers crossed!)

Bill Frakes/SI MIAMI -- It was the kind of block that ends games long before the clock strikes zero. It began with a slap of palm on leather. It continued with a scream. Six-foot-10 Wake Forest forward David Williams opened wide and unleashed a noise so guttural that it seemed to come from the mouth of hell itself. It ended with a thud. The ball sailed past the shooter, Cleveland State guard Cedric Jackson, thunked off the floor and flew into the scorer's table...

The No. 13 seed Cleveland State Vikings, who humiliated fourth-seeded Wake Forest 84-69 here Friday night, are back-alley tough. NCAA Didn't Do Any Favors to Cleveland State in Selection Process Submitted by Eugmc on March 18, 2009 - 11:40am. Have you ever hear the saying "It's hard to beat a rigged game"? If you are a fan of Cleveland State basketball that is how you have been feeling the past few days. The Vikings came into the tournament selection process with an RPI of 54 (currently two slots better at 52) and winners of 12 of 14. CSU also owned a better RPI, which is the computer variable that the selection committee looks at for seeding the tournament, than 16 teams out of the 64 teams invited to the big dance. From a Cleveland State perspective, you would imagine to get a 11 to 12 seed with those type of statistics. Instead, the Vikings got a 13 seed which you could argue was the lowest 13 seed in the entire draw... http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/9346
