  1. From Litt: Cleveland Clinic's 2 new buildings impose a chilly presence by Steven Litt / Plain Dealer Architecture Critic Saturday September 27, 2008, 12:00 AM The Cleveland Clinic has been an architectural conundrum for decades. It's a world-class medical center and a huge point of pride for Cleveland. But it's confusing and often hard to navigate, especially in the dense, clotted core of its sprawling, 166-acre main campus. The Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Pavilion and the adjacent Glickman Tower, two huge buildings that just opened in the center of the Clinic, are the latest attempts to cut through the clutter and impose clarity, serenity and grandeur... http://www.cleveland.com/arts/index.ssf/2008/09/cleveland_clinics_2_new_buildi.html
  2. After driving around a friend of a friend who was up from just south of canton. "Someone told me Cleveland was on the 'fastest dying city list'. I'm so confused... Cleveland is so fun! I'm going to come back and explore downtown and finally go to that iron chef place!" err.....She's lucky I'm a nice guy.

Oct 9th is fine. Confirmed. It may be a little loud, but I don;t think anything we can't handle. Maybe we can just take over the outdoor patio. EDIT: oh, but opening night at CR isn't supposed to open to the public until 8 pm. Maybe we can start down the street...like Teresa's pizza patio or Corner Alley outside and then go over if anyone wants to afterwards??
  5. Nice job Rob!! I want to send him a message and thank him. Good to see more young people not afraid to stand up and speak out.

  17. Nice! I love the balconies in many of the shot. Always enjoy OTR!
  18. Yeah I hope they keep it! haha I really like the fence design. It's classical enough in nature to keep/add to the street feel.
  19. "The people of the Cleveland area depend on transit to get around. Many are students, senior citizens, low income workers and persons with disabilities. Many cannot afford to own cars." I think this last statement goes to show his whole view on Public Transportation.

  21. Figured I'd start a new thread on this article since it doesn't quite fit in the other areas....not to mention it some more positive news about Cleveland for everyone! Cleveland's sustainability ranking improves dramatically in national survey Posted by Michael Scott/Plain Dealer Reporter September 22, 2008 23:45PM Cleveland moved up 12 spots to 16th in a national poll ranking environmentally sustainable cities. Chuck Crow/The Plain Dealer We're all still chasing Portland as America's most environmentally sustainable city -- but Cleveland is apparently greening, a national study says. Cleveland -- cited by researchers for doing "a heck of a job" in taking its ecological health seriously -- jumped 12 places from a year ago to finish 16th among the 50 largest U.S. cities, according to online environmental advocate, SustainLane. "We were very happy to see what areas we were recognized for -- like an overall green economy and for using local foods," said Andrew Watterson, Cleveland's sustainability program manager. On the other hand, Watterson said, the city's poor showing in planning and land use -- 43rd out of 50 cities -- was a nagging reminder that it has been hard to change our sprawling ways. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2008/09/clevelands_sustainability_rank.html
  22. Seriously great find! I missed this somehow.

  24. #18 CASE 48, OBERLIN 21... CLEVELAND, OH (September 20, 2008) - Case Western Reserve won its 14th consecutive regular season game this afternoon with a 48-21 non-conference victory at Oberlin College (0-2). The Spartans, currently ranked 18th in the country [NCAA Div. III] by D3football.com, improve to 3-0 on the year. Case Western Reserve will host Denison University for homecoming on October 4. Case Western Reserve’s 148 points in its first three games is an all-time best. They defeated Kenyon College 62-27 in week one and Rochester 38-6 last Saturday. Today’s victory was the 24th consecutive over Oberlin dating back to 1982. Case Western Reserve junior quarterback Dan Whalen (Willoughby, OH), who sat out last week’s win against Rochester due to an injury, threw four touchdowns passes in the first 30 minutes as the Spartans led 45-7 at the half. After the two teams each scored on the ground, Whalen broke a 7-7 tie with consecutive touchdown passes to sophomore receiver Shaun Nicely (Willoughby, OH). The last, a 37 yarder, put Case Western Reserve up 21-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Spartans added a field goal and another rushing touchdown before Whalen threw for two more scores. He hit sophomore receiver Zach Homyk (Chicago, IL) from 33 yards out and ended the first half with a two-yard strike to sophomore receiver Brian Webster (Southfield, MS). Spartans put up 329 yards [40 plays] of total offense in the first half compared to Oberlin’s 117 [34 plays]. Whalen was 14-of-25 for 260 yards and sat out the second half. Sophomore kicker Sam Coffey (Middletown, OH) was two-for-two in field goal attempts and six-for-six in point after attempts. His 34 yarder in the fourth quarter was Case Western Reserve’s lone score of the second half while Oberlin added 14 points to the scoreboard. Coffey also hit a 35-yard field goal in the second quarter. Spartan junior linebacker Jeff Brown (North Olmsted, OH) led the defense with 13 tackles and a fumble recovery. Sophomore defensive back Brad Paramore (Garfield Hts., OH) and sophomore linebacker Tim Lotz (Mars, PA) added eight tackles each. http://www.case.edu/athletics/varsity/fall/football/stats/2008/story_03.html
