  1. http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2008/09/states_sweetened_offer_not_eno.html State's sweetened offer not enough to keep Eaton in Cleveland Posted by Tom Breckenridge and Michelle Jarboe/Plain Dealer Reporters September 18, 2008 19:32PM For Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher, a Clevelander and fan of the core city's charms, the call from Sandy Cutler was a stomach churner. After months of planning, the chief executive officer of Cleveland's Fortune 500 landmark was saying a downtown move to the Flats probably wouldn't work. Chagrin Highlands in Beachwood was looking bigger and better for Eaton Corp. Fisher's first response? Sweeten the pot...

    Cool post! thanks!
  3. Thanks for posting...there's our "press release"! I'm mostly impressed on how fast of a response this was.
  4. I don't know what exactly their tax setup is, but here's a link to Eaton's Annual Report: http://www1.eaton.com/eatonar07/PDFs/EatonAR_2007.pdf "Page 2" has Eaton's income at just over $1 Billion last year. There's also the categories of "income before income taxes" and "income after income taxes" on the page. Again, I personally don't know how much went to state, federal, etc. But, it appears they paid $104 million in overall taxes last year.
  5. Even if this is the best case scenario if they move, losing 50% of Eaton's income tax would take A LOT of 100%'s from other companies to make it up.
  6. http://www.cleveland.com/onstage/index.ssf/2008/09/last_sneak_peek_the_hanna_thea.html Last sneak peek: The Hanna Theatre is FINISHED by Tony Brown/The Plain Dealer Tuesday September 16, 2008, 5:50 PM Great Lakes Theater Festival has basically shut down the Hanna Theatre to inquiring eyes until the grand reopening gala on Saturday, Sept. 20. But we sneaked in for a final look around Monday at an open house for PlayhouseSquare's ushers and the food & beverage and house management teams. AND IT'S DONE, except for a few punchlist items and a couple of patches of the gorgeous wilton weave wool carpet in the auditorium. Here are the last of the photos we'll be able to bring you until Saturday night. More at: http://www.cleveland.com/onstage/index.ssf/2008/09/last_sneak_peek_the_hanna_thea.html
  7. I actually agree BD...the biggest thing is that it continue the momentum for downtown development. and I always though ESPNZone would have been perfect for the May Company...funny you say that. It definitely adds a slightly different dynamic to Public Square now, which I think is more of a positive.
  8. They were still working on it again I walked by (about 10 minutes ago) I'd guess about two stories down of the third column has had its steel removed. They literally have just started.
  9. I'm not sure if it has been posted yet, but the Grand Opening is: OCT 9 @ 8pm

  11. Well it looks like lots of people got to see the great skyline shots of Cleveland during the game: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.zap2it.com/tv/ratings/zap-ratings091408,0,3105421.story Ratings: Cleveland (and Pittsburgh) Rock for NBC 'Sunday Night Football' gets an across-the-board win September 15, 2008 The Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns didn't put up many points Sunday, but the broadcast of their game on NBC did score the night's best ratings. NBC averaged an 8.3 rating/13 share for the night, easily beating CBS' 6.5/11 (both networks had live sports on the night, so their numbers may change some). ABC came in third with a 4.1/7. FOX took fourth at 3.3/5, and The CW trailed with a 1.3/2. Among adults 18-49, NBC's 5.4 rating was far and away the night's best. CBS finished second in the demographic with a 3.0. ABC and FOX tied for third at 2.1, while The CW managed only a 0.8.

Zap! Pow! Bam! Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage hosts comic-book exhibit by Michael Sangiacomo / Plain Dealer Reporter Monday September 15, 2008, 6:00 AM Peggy Turbett/The Plain Dealer The single, framed piece of yellowed paper from the early 1940s is unique and priceless in the truest sense of the words. The page has Joe Shuster's story pencil drawings of Superman with an inscription by Jerry Siegel to Batman artist Jerry Robinson. Siegel quips that if he had seen Robinson's art first, he might have hired him to draw Superman. The creators of Superman sharing a moment with the guy who created The Joker. 13. But it could at least have an OHIO license plate. I know it's a chain, but that Texas plate just even adds to the not-fitting-in-with-its-surroundings/corporate feel. It actually would feel like a decent compromise.

  21. How about the "Horseshoe" in Columbus built 1922? At least the clear choice for #1 sporting venue architecturally...or am I stretching it??
  22. These are significant, but I do not believe they would make the top 5 in Cleveland alone...unless you were just adding to my list..
  23. In Cleveland: Terminal Tower hands down To add to the topic a little, some other architectural gems would include: - the Arcade - Rock and Roll HOF - Peter B. Lewis Building - Key Tower - Soldiers and Sailors Monument

  25. http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2008/09/ohios_rules_hinder_progress_bu.html Ohio's rules hinder progress, business leaders say Posted by Tom Breckenridge September 10, 2008 20:52PM COLUMBUS -- Business leaders and top elected officials are calling for reforms to state policies that they say have hobbled Ohio's cities and stymied the Buckeye economy. More than 1,000 influential leaders gathered Wednesday at the Greater Columbus Convention Center to hear a hard-hitting critique of Ohio's struggling urban centers and how they can be restored. The Brookings Institution, a pro-urban think tank based in Washington, D.C., and Greater Ohio, a like-minded nonprofit group in Columbus, hosted an eight-hour summit that drew mayors, university presidents, development professionals and nonprofit leaders from every corner of the state.
