  2. I can't believe this hasn't been posted yet--Great news! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- New West Side school part of Cleveland district's $1.5 billion construction, renovation plan Posted by Tom Ott May 18, 2008 15:00PM Categories: Breaking News People clamoring for an additional high school on Cleveland's West Side apparently will get their wish -- it's just a matter of when. The new school, which would relieve overcrowding at John Marshall and Lincoln-West, is in revised plans for the school district's $1.5 billion construction and renovation program. The district will air the plans at community forums over the next two weeks, and the school board will vote on a final draft June 24. 3. From Litt: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2008/05/_the_cleveland_institute_of.html Cleveland Institute of Art expansion designed by Winy Maas in jeopardy due to high cost Posted by Steven Litt/Plain Dealer Architecture Critic May 15, 2008 17:08PM The Cleveland Institute of Art has hit the financial wall in its effort to create an iconic new studio building designed by the leading Dutch architect Winy Maas. After a recent cost estimate that showed the design would cost "well north" of the $55 million budgeted for the project, the art institute decided to scale back, President David Deming said Thursday. The question now is whether Maas, a principal of the cutting-edge Dutch architecture firm MVRDV, will go back to the drawing board with designers from the Cleveland office of Burt, Hill, the local architect of record...

Great to hear you had a good time. I was at the wink all night--yep it was packed. Some more "obscure" places would be: Little Bar Nick's Clevelander Scorchers on E.12 All downtown, so kinda what you're asking. My favorite spots to "hop" during the game are Boneyard, Wink, Flannery's, Panini's on E.9, and even Corner Alley. I think you had the right idea of hanging out in the E.4th/Gateway district. Not to mention, you get to be a part of all the excitement as the game lets out.
  8. I really think it is probably Micheal Symons involvement. He needs Lola to be on a new famous American street. It is in his best interest that all the restaurants and entertainment succeed beyond expectations and he is taking it in his hands to make that happen. What exactly is Michaels interest (control) of Zocalo? I think it's a stretch to say he "is taking it in his hands", as you can't control another busines you don't own. However, I think he might be a catalyst for change and has set the bar high and other restaurants want to simulate the process. On another note, but related, I can report that folks from our various divisions continue to give positive feedback about the restaurants in downtown and the Asian Village. They also say downtown is "cleaner" than last year, not that it was dirty. I don't know how Zocala was able to lure the Mexican Iron Chef to come to their restaurant is all I am saying. They pay him. EDIT: I see what you're saying now. I have heard that Michael is friends with the guy, so maybe there was that little bit of influence.
  9. It's back for '08. I saw some flyers today around UC and did an online search. Here's the only link I could find (kinda needs some aesthetics work...): http://www.hessler.org/fair.html May 17-18, Noon-Dusk.

Home cooking (up) 'Plan' of Celtics brass to end road woes is in place - Boston, not Cleveland The Celtics hope they’ve located the cause of their problems on the road — Cleveland in this instance — by importing some of the comforts of home. By Dan Shaughnessy Globe Columnist / May 12, 2008 CLEVELAND - The Celtics' braintrust stayed up past midnight after the Saturday night massacre at the Q. Wyc Grousbeck, Steve Pagliuca, Danny Ainge, Doc Rivers, and Jo Jo White plotted deep into yesterday morning and came up with a plan they think will solve the team's postseason road woes. Home away from home. It's not reality, of course. It's not even virtual reality. It's the concept of a virtual Boston Garden right here in Cleveland. It starts in the team hotel. After Saturday night's loss, Celtics brass rigged and wired the team's hotel headquarters to simulate Boston. This morning, a copy of the Globe will be set outside each player's room. If Kevin Garnett flips on his clock radio, he'll hear Glenn Ordway and friends screaming over each other on "The Big Show." If Paul Pierce clicks on his TV, he'll see Hazel Mae at the NESN sports desk. If Ray Allen orders room service, he'll get a bowl of Legal Seafoods clam chowder. 12. Check out this story in the Boston Globe...writer Dan Shaughnessy. Besides the sports detail, cool article on his perspective of Cleveland. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2008/05/11/nothing_eerie_here_in_city_by_the_ocean/?page=full Nothing eerie here in city 'by the ocean' By Dan Shaughnessy Globe Staff / May 11, 2008 CLEVELAND - Some people dig Paris. Others prefer Rome, New York, or maybe the bright lights of Vegas. There are artsy types who want only to relax in Santa Fe. Tony Bennett rightfully left his heart in San Francisco and you're no dope if Chicago is your kind of town. I've always fancied myself a Cleveland kind of guy.
  13. Interesting news here: I was in Zocalo for lunch a couple days ago, and I over heard the Latin America "Iron Chef" was downstairs. I made small talk with the bartender and it turns out, he was there for business reasons completely revamping the menu with new ingredients and preparation. The menu items will stay the same, but how they are made will all be diffeernet. Apparently the new updated menu menu will come out memorial day weekend. Cool new to let everyone know.
  14. yeah, but at least the sponsorship gives an extra set of eyes/funds to make sure it stays nice. Plus I bet the hospitals will promote public transporation much more. That's why I have no problem with the sponsorship....least it's not the "Progressive Line"...man I'd kill myself...

^^that is odd for Joe to say...wasn't Cleveland ranked as having the most subways recently?? Someone needs to show him around! (EDIT: mostly meaning other things besides starbucks and subways though!) On a funny note, anyone remember this commerical of lebron from a few years ago?
