cleveland commuting
I, ironically, had to do the University Circle (borders Cleveland Heights) to University of Akron commute for about 2 years. On average, it would take me about 50-55 minutes each way. If you'd only be going down about 3 times a week, it really isn't that bad once you get used to it (I was going down about 2-3 times a week as well). The amount of gas sucks; however, I usually carpooled, so at least I had someone to talk with and clear my head on the rides. Now it is definitely doable if it's what you want, but coming from someone has has done this commute--I would probably recommend living in Summit County and visiting Cleveland when it fits in your schedule.

Cleveland Eateries: A Where To Guide for Visitors and Residents
Sorry if this was only for downtown restaurants... these are both in the area. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Cleveland does not equal downtown. And if you're talking about good italian food, you really didn't hit the tip of the iceburg when it comes to the best food in Cleveland. Personally, I would rank Mama Santa's about 7th or 8th best in Little Italy alone (and that's mostly because of their affordibility). My top 6 for Little Italy: 1) Angelo's Nido Italia (huge portions, best marsala/seafood/and steaks in the neighborhood) 2) Gusto! (a little pricy, but worth it) 3) Valerio's (most sicilian style) 4) Il Bacio (also, extremely sicilian) 5) La Dolce Vita (most people's favorite, Terry Tarantino's place) 6) Michaelangelo's (off the beaten path, but good all around)

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
He's more than just an athlete...he's become a national celebrity...and already branching out to other countries (i.e. world power china). All all honesty, lebron can do what he wants. The amount oof happiness and national media attention he has brought to this city cannot be quantified. Overall, he's got a pretty damn good head on his shoulders for the amount of fame, fortune, and media attention he has achieved while being so young.

AMAZING game last night as Lebron broke the all-time Cleveland career scoring record (at age 23...). Fortunately, I was at the game and was able to witness these LBJ highlights. Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Man it would suck to lose revenue from the Grand Prix and IFF during the same time period. While the IFF is still fresh in our minds: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2008/03/medical_mart_plan_could_force.html Medical Mart plan could force new site for Cleveland International Film Festival by Clint O'Connor / Plain Dealer Reporter Wednesday March 19, 2008, 5:37 PM Those questions arose Wednesday in the wake of plans announced for a possible Medical Mart-Convention Center at Tower City in downtown Cleveland. One proposal floated by Forest City Enterprises involves carving up parts of Tower City Cinemas as a way of connecting a Medical Mart in the former Higbee Building with a new convention center on the Cuyahoga River. "It's pure speculation at this point," said Jonathan Forman, president of Cleveland Cinemas, which has run the theaters since 1998. "No one's saying, 'We're going to close the theaters.' Even if Tower City is the eventual home of the Medical Mart, it would be several years before anything happens there."...

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
My young perspective on the situation: Thumbs up to the Mall site Reasons: - Will reenergize to a certain extent a part of town that feels barren waaaay too many day of the year. - Would create another distinct destination downtown. - Finally "connects" two parts of downtown, E.9th area and W. 6th area. - Walking distance to EVERYTHING needed. Hotels, Tower City, Lakefront, Tower City and Public Transport, Euclid Corridor to the Clinic. A pro to both sites, but keeps people on the streets like stated before, and highlights Tower City even more as a separate destination for visitors. - The TC site would most likely stunt future riverfront development, assuming new construction will not be done "right." - TC benefits either way with the increased traffic (obviously to a lesser degree) - More use out of Public Square - More Scenic with the Lakefront/ Mall (subjective I know) - Could renovate/link up with the old convention center Even after all this, the distant possibily of Med mart at Tower City and the new Convention Center (still managed by the MMPI) on/in the Mall could be the best of both worlds. My only big concern about the Mall site is the effects bad weather would have on Med Mart and conventions attendence--Tower City would be way more immune to the elements obviously. But it's already been decided like many are predicting....ah well...

Local menswear label Arcane Wrath hitting it big Posted by Kim Crow/Style Editor March 18, 2008 12:00PM Categories: Style, fashion and beauty Starting a revolution is easy. But sustaining a revolution? Much, much harder. Just ask the folks at Wrath Arcane. The Cleveland-based menswear design house is firmly, proudly committed to the "Made in the U.S.A." printed on its hang tags. But considering the decimated U.S. manufacturing sector, it's an ideal far easier dreamed than put into play. Cleveland Browns Discussion

It happened in Cleveland Browns Stadium late last season, and my wife Sally and I learned about it from our son-in-law, Steve Fryman, when members of our family gathered for dinner on Christmas Eve. Cleveland: Festivals, Music Concerts, & Events
Some out of state love: http://www.indiewire.com/ots/2008/03/festivals_easte.html FESTIVALS | Eastern European Flare Sets Cleveland Fest Apart By Howard Feinstein (March 18, 2008) As goes Ohio, so goes the nation. If the saying holds water regarding the upcoming presidential election, then so goes the nation--into a ditch, to paraphrase Senator Barack Obama. If only the expression were applicable to our cloned film festivals. Here's one that veers off in a different direction. The 32nd Cleveland International Film Festival, Ohio's biggest movie event, had two provocative strands that set it apart. (Nearly 300 films unspooled March 6-16 at a multiplex inside the city's restored 1929 train station, a fabulous structure that is more a naturally lit galleria than claustrophobic mall.) What other U.S. fest has been prescient enough to mount a retrospective of the work of fearless Filipino director Brillante Mendoza? His low-budget films, which fuse documentary and melodrama in a daring way, move you as they move: Motion and emotion co-exist, tugging at your viscera and heart in equal measure. And what other American festival has a competition of films from Central and Eastern Europe? Eastern European cinema is "hot" these days (Romania's "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days" for example), but Cleveland has been screening these movies since the '80s. (Of course, the demographic of the city is heavily Eastern European.) Another reason to be enamored: In a viper's nest of fests where longing to be first overrides serving the locals, Cleveland offers a whiff of purity. "We care about what our audience wants," says artistic director Bill Guentzler. "That a film has played every other festival in the U.S. indicates that it's probably worth showing. We don't care about premiere status." ... More at: http://www.indiewire.com/ots/2008/03/festivals_easte.html

ummm....Cleveland stores do sell Gladiator apparel (such as our Champs in Tower City). I even bought a T-shirt at the "Cleveland Gladiators Store" on Huron, just outside the arena. EDIT: And Cleveland is getting to a larger fan base?? Well, they already have one of the league's highest home attendence (even more than those NY Dragons). 14,700 people showed up for the last home game with two feet of snow on the ground! Wearing a tank top, shorts and sneakers from his own Nike clothing line, James appears on the cover dribbling a basketball and screaming as if in game mode while throwing one arm around supermodel Gisele Bundchen with Tom Brady nowhere to be found. The pairing of the All-Star forward and the runway icon was shot in January by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz in James' hometown of Akron, Ohio.

Cleveland: National City Bank News & Info
http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/stories/2008/03/10/daily46.html?t=printable Thursday, March 13, 2008 - 1:52 PM MST Wells Fargo likely to consider buying struggling Cleveland bank--The Business Journal of Phoenix By Mark Calvey San Francisco Business Times Wells Fargo & Co. is expected to be on a short list of potential suitors for Cleveland-based National City, which is looking for a buyer as it struggles with bad loans. Wells (NYSE:WFC), on the other hand, is weathering the financial storm relatively well. The San Francisco bank's leadership has expressed interest in recent weeks in stepping up its pace of acquisition activity. In January, Wells agreed to buy five banks in Wyoming and Idaho from United Bancorp. of Wyoming Inc., of Jackson, Wyo. The bank, one of the major banks in Arizona, still is integrating its recent purchase of Greater Bay Banks, which was based in East Palo Alto, Calif. National City's (NYSE:NCC) investment bankers are shopping the troubled bank, according to a Wall Street Journal report Thursday. Whenever a major bank comes on the market, Wells is often mentioned as a potential suitor given its deep pockets as the nation's fifth-largest bank. But National City's depressed share price and the troubled Midwestern markets it serves might be too appealing for a disciplined buyer like Wells Fargo to pass up.
