Yet, there's every reason to think they're telling the truth. They say they're having trouble finding skilled workers. The problem is hindering their businesses. But hold on. Haven't industrial jobs been swirling down an open drain here for years as plants close or move? Wouldn't it seem there should be experienced out-of-work machinists, welders and assembly personnel eager to snap up available jobs? The answers: yes and yes. But changes in manufacturing have reshaped factory protocols and job descriptions worldwide in recent decades. The process has shaken up plants from China to Japan to Ohio. ....... "There are good jobs in the trades here," Rasmus said. "Graduates can make good money and build real security. It just takes the right kind of person and the right kind of training. Ohio needs a lot more of that."
  6. I did. it seemed they were focusing more on research and other current strengths. I spoke, but I seemed to be the only lone voice besides one other female on the retail and pedestrian friendly push. EDIT: but the ones making the decisions did seem to want increase the push for more of a sense of place/and having workers/professors live in the Cirlce. Not to mention, there is the private sector of this investment that the university only has so much control of anyway.

The company's signature gimmick, its $1 fare, will be available on every new route. The new service brings Megabus' total cities served from its Chicago hub to 17, including Cleveland. (Two cities, Pittsburgh and Louisville, Ky., were dropped late last year for lack of ridership, according to a spokeswoman.) The company also offers service out of Los Angeles, to seven West Coast cities. Though a few seats on each bus are sold for $1, most go for substantially more, up to $45 one way. The price increases as the departure date nears and the bus fills. Service to the new cities begins Thursday, March 13. Seats go on sale this Thursday. For information, go to www.megabus.com.

Man, this was such a fun game to watch tonight--the Q seemed to be rocking with excitement. Here's a a recap out of Canton with some great quotes: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- New-look Cavs rout Grizzlies Sunday, February 24, 2008 BY Chris Beaven REPOSITORY SPORTS WRITER Throw out strategy. Forget calling plays. Energy, effort and emotion ruled Sunday night at Quicken Loans Arena when the revitalized Cavaliers delivered a 109-89 beating to the Memphis Grizzlies. A sell-out crowd of 20,562 showed up ready to roar, fired up the players and then got quite a show in watching the Cavs win their third straight. From "Big" Ben Wallace chasing around a point guard and forcing a five-second count to Joe Smith making jumper after jumper, the new-look Cavs made an impressive debut together and had as much fun as the fans. "I was telling the guys on the bench that might have been the first time in a long time I got chills when I took the court," Smith said. "When we ran out on the floor for warm-ups, the crowd reaction and how they accepted us, I kind of got goose bumps on my body. And that hasn't happened in a while." It’s just dysfunctional. That was one of the sentiments expressed at an Urban Land Institute panel that tackled the question, “Can stand-alone malls survive?” The question was posed recently during ULI’s annual Reinventing Retail conference at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles, according to an article on online real estate Web site GlobeSt.com.
  18. Well....I guess more influence by the Cleveland Clinic-- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/cleveland-clinic-collaborates-with-google,286907.shtml Cleveland Clinic Collaborates with Google Posted : Thu, 21 Feb 2008 05:01:10 GMT Author : Cleveland Clinic Category : PressRelease CLEVELAND, Feb. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Cleveland Clinic, a world-class academic medical institution and leader in health information technology, today announced a collaboration with Google, the world's leading Internet search company, to pilot features and services of a new health offering from Google. The Google offering, not yet publicly available, will assist providers like Cleveland Clinic to create a new kind of healthcare experience that puts the patient in charge of his or her own health information. Today, more than 100,000 Cleveland Clinic patients benefit from Cleveland Clinic's electronic personal health record (PHR) system called eCleveland Clinic MyChart®. The pilot, an invitation-only opportunity offered to a group of Cleveland Clinic PHR users, plans to enroll between 1,500 and 10,000 patients. It will test secure exchange of patient medical record data such as prescriptions, conditions and allergies between their Cleveland Clinic PHR to a secure Google profile in a live clinical delivery setting. The ultimate goal of this patient-centered and controlled model is to give patients the ability to interact with multiple physicians, healthcare service providers and pharmacies. "Patients are more proactively managing their own healthcare information," said C. Martin Harris, M.D., Chief Information Officer, Cleveland Clinic. "At Cleveland Clinic, we strive to participate in and help to advance the national dialogue around a more efficient and effective national healthcare system. Utilizing Cleveland Clinic's PHR expertise, this collaboration is intended to help Google test features and services that will ultimately allow all Americans (as patients) to direct the exchange of their medical information between their various providers without compromising their privacy." The pilot will eventually extend Cleveland Clinic's online patient services to a broader audience while enabling the portability of patient data so patients can take their data with them wherever they go-even outside the Cleveland Clinic Health System. "We believe patients should be able to easily access and manage their own health information," said Marissa Mayer, Vice President, Search Products and User Experience, Google. "We chose Cleveland Clinic as one of the first partners to pilot our new health offering because as a provider, they already empower their patients by giving them online tools that help them manage their medical records online and coordinate care with their doctors." By integrating with the Google platform, Cleveland Clinic is helping create national access to electronic medical records at no cost to the user or provider. The integration between the two systems will help deliver: -- National Access-A more efficient and effective healthcare system driven by a working interoperability model that moves electronic medical records from a closed model to one that is open and connected. -- Consumer Empowerment-A secure patient-centric, consumer-driven tool that will provide each consumer increased control of their medical care, without compromising their privacy. This will empower patients to actively manage their overall health. -- 24/7 Access/Portability-A web portal with 24/7 access, capable of providing the consumer with an opportunity to actively engage in their health care, heightening the importance of quality care and service by providers. "The partnership with Google is an example of true innovation in health care which brings value to patients and providers," said Delos M. "Toby" Cosgrove, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer, Cleveland Clinic, and member of the Google Health Advisory Council. "As the volume of medical information available to patients increases, it becomes more important for doctors and patients to use this information in a way that empowers the patient to be more collaborative with their care providers." 19. He said there is a proposed merger of leagues in the near future, which would create the need to trim locations to all fit into one schedule. Apparently Cleveland is on the list to be eliminated if this happens....all this according to the Channel 5 reporter.
  20. Alright I apologize....I was in a very Pro-Cleveland mood today. Seriously though, what it wrong with a sports town or young professional area or college town or even great shopping. Does this too only help with the regional??
  21. Why don't they just piggy-back off her quote to help better define Columbus.... Columbus, OH: "Better than Cleveland" Oh wait, she's right, that is waaaaayy too easy to say. They need to think of sometihng more challenging.
  22. I want to echo what has already been said--it was nice to finally put some faces behind the screen names and meet everyone. On the walk back I got interview by Channel 5 on the possible closing of the Cleveland Grand Prix?? I was damn cold, so I hope I don't sound too stupid on the 5 o'clock news tonight.
