  1. There is also a dry cleaning business inside of Reserve Square on E. 12th and chester. I seem to remember being charged $5 for a shirt...but I've never known any different. The only place that is cheaper is out in Mayfield Heights...but they only charge $1 if you have a military or government ID (such as firefighter or police officer)...other than that, they are the same price. EDIT: And my dad always told me that the roads and highways were a mafia business around here ;). They only fix them enough so that they have to be fixed again in 3-5 years. My dad's teachings to me: "we have roads in Italia that the Romans built 2000 years ago that cars drive on everyday and that don't need fixed." Mind you there are numerous responses to this statement I know.

  4. National news....but very applicable to Cleveland: http://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/housing/2008-02-11-countrywide-foreclosure-subprime_N.htm Countrywide plans to help more avoid foreclosure By Alex Veiga, AP Business Writer LOS ANGELES — Countrywide Financial (CFC), under pressure to help stem growing home loan defaults, says it will expand programs to help borrowers stay in their homes regardless of the type of subprime loan they have or whether they have already fallen behind on payments. Details of the initiative, the result of a pact with a national community advocacy group, were to be disclosed Monday. The announcement was postponed last month after Countrywide agreed to be acquired by Bank of America (BAC) for $4.1 billion in stock... http://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/housing/2008-02-11-countrywide-foreclosure-subprime_N.htm

  9. The best part of this article is the piece of mind that this project pretty much has a concrete completion date for this portion become of Eaton's 2011 centenial deadline--which can hopefully propel everything else to not be delayed fromt he original timelines. Unfortunitely I have to leave Cleveland for two years to do my military service starting in 2009, but I'm scheduled to return 2011...hopefully I will the see the beginning of the lakefront development bridging from FEB, as well as many other projects well underway and/or ready for completion. In a way, maybe it will feel like a time warp to finally seeing these projects completed!
  10. Well, it looks like the lean for Eaton is more and more towards the FEB : More at http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2008/02/eaton_corp_port_to_begin_talks.html
  11. Maybe a few of should try to contact Geico to "convince" them the benefits of locating into the city--the biggest being the statement it would make against the big suburban competitor to the Cleveland community....but they've probably already picked their location most likely by now...

High gas prices have put a drag on the economy, and according to the group, the best stimulus plan for the country is for Americans to incorporate a bus or train into their commutes. The demonstrators, angered by news of record profits from Exxon and Shell, caught the attention of downtown office workers. So did the oil barrels blocking off the streets and the 45-foot long buses parked in the city's busiest intersection. ......
  16. I've noticed the very same thing here in Atlanta...and like the PD, I'm sure it would have been all over the Enquirer's website for days. This is why I created this thread: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,15042.0.html In all retropect, these sites really are a huge detrement to their cities. Their love for posting shocking (mostly negative) headlines and highlighting the most controversal/idiotic comments honestly has such a huge impact on public opinion--more than most people are willing to admit. I'm going to guess here, but I'm assuming readers ship is very high and probably steadily increasing. Using the old saying "Perception is Reality"--both cleveland.com and cincinnati.com could do wonders for their reasons if they had new ownership. **If anyone wants to donate in the absolute best way for the benefit of cleveland and cincinnati....please buy these sites and hire someone to positively regulate!** The PD and Enquirer are a different animal all together....baby steps.

One of the fountains has been stripped down to a sparkling clean finish, the deep cracks repaired, and 16 new lampposts cast a warm glow over the Italian Renaissance setting at night. This is just the beginning. It won't be long before the monument is fully restored to its original 1930s majesty...

Jason Kidd’s Trade Request Puts Pressure On Cleveland Cavaliers January 29, 2008 Oly Sandor Jason Kidd finally confirmed the worst secret in pro sports: he wants out of New Jersey and has asked the Nets to trade him: "Sometimes, when you ride a wave, you get to the end and that’s all there is. That’s where we are," Kidd said in the interview. "It used to be if I got a triple-double, that was an automatic win. That’s just not the case now. We tried to make this work. We’ve found out it doesn’t. It’s time for us all to move on.’’ Something was lost in yesterday’s hoopla, overshadowed by the unofficial becoming official. Last summer, as members of Team USA, Kidd and Cleveland superstar LeBron James discussed playing together. The two established a chemistry on and off the court and began dreaming about playing together in the NBA. In November, Kidd told Sports Illustrated that he and James have had ’’a little talk’’ about playing together with the Cavs. More at http://www.hoopsvibe.com/nba-blog/jason-kidd-s-trade-request-puts-pressure-on-cleveland-cavaliers-ar47149.html

  22. From the PD: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ameritrust developer wants to hire Cleveland architect to design new downtown tower Posted by Steven Litt/Plain Dealer Architecture Critic January 28, 2008 19:06PM http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2008/01/large_euclid.jpg CAPTION: [Don't worry: Developer Doug Price said Monday he has no intention of building the crystalline glass mushroom shown in this rendering. He's going to aim higher and wants to give the assignment to a Cleveland architect.] It was fantastic news Jan. 15 when The K&D Group, led by Chief Executive Douglas Price III, offered Cuyahoga County $35 million for the Ameritrust complex in downtown Cleveland. The purchase means that someone who cares about preserving the 29-story Ameritrust Tower, the only tall office building ever completed by Modernist pioneer Marcel Breuer, will take the building off the hands of the county, which wanted to raze the structure to make way for a new administrative center... http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2008/01/ameritrust_developer_wants_to.html

http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5i7xKOSKRyj9fQ7MrBBHdBEo59zsg Foot injury sidelines Cleveland's Pavlovic 3 hours ago CLEVELAND (AFP) — Cleveland Cavaliers guard Sasha Pavlovic will be sidelined six to eight weeks by a sprained left foot, the National Basketball Association team said Thursday. Pavlovic was hurt in the third quarter of Wednesday's 121-85 victory over the Washington Wizards, and an MRI on Thursday confirmed the sprain. Pavlovic, 23, re-signed with the Cleveland in November and is averaging 7.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in 38 games. Last season he played in 67 games and averaged career highs in nearly every category, including points with 9.0, rebounds with 2.4 and assists with 1.6.
