  1. Great! can't wait to see. Here's an article to help everyone know what Florida Guy is talking about: http://www.east4thstreet.com/media/assets/Crains_HighLife.pdf
  2. More great news. The grocery store in Reserve Square on the E. 13th side (between Chester and Superior) will be now be completed in the next 4-6 weeks. The worker I spoke with stressed weeks and not months until they're finished. Great to see something being completed ahead of schedule.
  3. Hey, I came accross signage today on public sqaure about the ECP....! (well one sign...but it was there!)
  4. ^there is a sign for the upcoming lofts, so I bet it is safe to assume they are also working on the lofts as well...but I didn't ask. Very interesting today...all the work that is going on in the old cafe in the NW corner has now expanded into the Old Lady Blue and other empty store front, into one big location of all there old store fronts. A worker inside told me a mediterrianian restuarant was going in...could this be La Strada instead of that other bar and grill?? I know this was the location I was orignally told for La Strada, but the E. 4th newsletter had the picture of the building where no work is going on next to the upcoming Jazz bar. It makes the most sense that the NW location will become La Strada since it looks like it could be completed by late July (which is close to the orignal projected June opening). With the retail space that large, I sure hope it is La Strada.
  5. umm...Tim Couch, Ryan Leaf....there are probably 10 times as many QB's who started as a rookie day one who didn't pan out. Not saying I whole-heartedly disagree with you, but to use such a narrow and specific example as Peyton as your arguement is kind of stretching it. If Brady looks more impressive when the season rolls around, then start him. Whatever Crennel decides, I'll be cheering for the Brownies is my usual crazy, drunken manor. It's definitely too early to start inking in the starter. Go Browns!
  6. I picked up a copy today...they're already printed and currently in front of Algebra Tea House. The cover has West Side Market on the front and it's currently very artistic with poems and images. One is entitled "Love Song for Cleveland." Here's a quote on page three: "We are organic, present, and conversational. Our pages are available for those who have a poem to sing, an image to describe, or a word to add to the conversation that brings our city to life" I won't be able to come over to until about 7 tomorrow.

Downtown is going to be crazy tonight with this clinching game and the indians (if it doesn't rain out) I'll probably spend the rest of the evening bar hopping downtown. EDIT: rain is supposed to stop at 6, so the indians should be a go. Downtown if definitely going to be crazy tonight...jumping on the rapid here shortly.
  8. Receiver throws out a lifeline Posted by Joseph L. Wagner May 16, 2007 13:56PM Categories: Browns Cleveland Browns wideout Braylon Edwards has done his share of receiving, but now he is proving he knows how to give as well. Edwards, through a foundation bearing his name, pledged $1 million Wednesday in college scholarships to 100 Cleveland Municipal School District eighth-graders as an incentive for them to finish high school and go on to higher education. 9. Currently, I believe there are no plans for one to start with...but all my information is from small coffeeshop talk. I'll try and find out some more information before sunday, but he did say it will be distributed both east and west side at various locations (I remember hearing coffeeshops, art galleries, etc.) to start off with. I definetly recommend stopping by for the sunday release party and talk with the guy who's starting it. I'll probably be there too if I don't have to work.
  10. Let's remember, he did have about a year of a "quiet period" where he was seeking and talking with various retailers. I too wouldn't be surprised if he already has many verbal commitments as well as contracts ready soon. Like Edsiou said, he may just have to fill in the rest of the smaller spaces to lock in the bigger tennants....but I still have a good feeling he's well on his way.
  11. suburbs (suburban style) look much worse than cities when they age...kinda interesting what most suburbs will begin to look like in 60-100 years compared to downtowns.
  12. I would definetly love to see some Cleveland history stories as well inside...interviews with some older residents. MTS...I don't know if that will get past the editor...you know what, I'm not ever sure how to respond. haha (unless they're pro cleveland stories or occasions).

Nets' firework display needs plenty of work Tuesday, May 15, 2007 Mary Schmitt Boyer Plain Dealer Reporter East Rutherford, N.J. - There's no polite way to say it, but the New Jersey Nets' pregame pyrotechnics are, well, wimpy. In Quicken Loans Arena, fans are used to Fourth of July-type fireworks from the scoreboard, loud explosions and the occasional singed eyebrow from the flares that shoot up from behind the baskets. In Continental Airlines Arena, they dragged around a couple of portable flamethrower contraptions, but the flares looked like birthday candles compared to those at The Q. After the Nets were introduced, there was one popgunlike sound accompanying one anemic red, white and blue firework (is there a singular for that word?) and some red and blue streamers. You could not blame Cavs owner Dan Gilbert for looking a little smug in his front row seat across from the Nets' bench. :-D More at www.cleveland.com

I''ll take it. Great to see an annual event like this!
  15. There was some work going on in Wonder Bar today...the workers said late July or early August for the opening.
  16. More great news: 1. Construction has begun for the E.13th street access of the Reserve Square Grocery store..should be done by the end the year. 2. Phase 3 is already sticking out the ground one story. Only 6 more units to sell. 3. Phase 1 has broken ground! Dirt and pipes and everything. 4. Well it's E.9, but behind the Celebrezze building, a courtyard of about 1/4 a city block is really under construction (if that's a good way to describe something).
  17. I have great news to announce. Starting this sunday, a new Cleveland news source will be hitting the streets, the Cleveland Reader. 10,000 copies will be made for the first edtion, and it will come out monthly. This biggest difference is that it will clean...poetry, news stories, photos, comics...no sleeze. 100% free as well. There will be a release party held at Algebra Tea House this Sunday, May 20, at 4pm. Here's the location from google: http://maps.google.com/maps?source=ig&hl=en&q=algebra%20teahouse&btnG=Google+Search&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&um=1&sa=N&tab=wl http://www.algebrateahouse.net/
  18. One more day to submit Ohio neighborhoods. Let's try and get something on the top ten list.
  19. One big thing I would like to see is some sort of 24-hour place...My Friends, IHOP, whatever....that's something else downtown is missing that could be incorporated with this project. These square feet numbers don't really mean anything to me...the area is huge where he'll be building, that's all we need to know. I'm ready to spend my money there as well!
  20. I can't make it to the Day of Service, but I will most likely be there as well.
  21. Uh oh...getting our hopes up even more. C'mon man, don't do that! We're already excited for what's been proposed, haha.
  22. If he decides not to knock it down in the future, I think it would be cool to integrate it in the final plan almost like a historical building, haha. Turn the roof into a large patio/balcony and have the entrance be from adjoining taller buildings. A historical plaque "think-tank of Robert Stark Enterprises" or "original building".....well maybe I'm just too giddy with excitement for these stupid ideas.. It will be interesting now what he can snag in Las Vegas with Phase I planning most likely going to be complete for the retailers to choose locations. This may be make-or-break to start off the project with a bang. Good luck Stark, bring back a winner.
  23. That makes me feel a little better. On the radio, I've been hearing more and more politicians on both side beginning to speak their disapproval and annoyance. One guy from Cincinnati said "we have many other issues we should be focused on for the future of this state." Reading this article, I just had a image in my head of 30-50 people (men and women!) being escorted out of the Q for getting too close to the Cavs girls...some just trying to get a hot dog or to their seats...

I went to game one and that was crazy, I can't imagine what game two would have been like... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Atmosphere is great for games at 'Q' By TODD PORTER, GateHouse Media CLEVELAND — Random thoughts and musings from Tuesday’s Cavs game... It was minutes before tip-off, and the crowd noise was deafening. Cleveland fans came out, and came out strong for Game 2. Of course, an 8 o’clock start on national TV left plenty of time for the nine-to-fivers to get in a few rounds at Happy Hour. That was evident at halftime. A group of about 100 fans gathered outside The Q to digest and critique the first half. A man wearing a Yankees cap was spotted. Fans broke out an unprintable chant that rhymed with “crass mole ... crass mole.” More at www.gatehousemedia.com/
  25. Wow, if your going to steal a city treasure...don't try and sell it back to that city. Either way, I don't have the sick feeling in my stomach anymore, and this is great news! Now the next step...what can be done to prevent this in the future? 1) Don't put the orignal back on the monuments? (Sad, but it may have to be an option) 2) Somehow establish video camera/motion sensors (where the lights come on and police are notified) around each monument? 3) Mount the orignal bust much more securely? 4) Have a button to "release the hounds?" (idea from Simpsons) EDIT: Pic from Cleveland.com
