  1. For Cleveland I would say (no particular order): 1. Tremont 2. Ohio City 3. Little Italy 4. Shaker Square 5. University Circle 6. W. 6th/Warehouse District (Make sure to include Lebron James and Usher are residents!) 7. E. 4th 8. Stonebridge? 9. Something on the Shoreway (you Westsiders would know better) You never know what they are looking for, so it would be a good idea to submit all of these, if not more. Like I said before, I will submit Little Italy and University Circle (Maybe I'll raise the population of the area if it cracks the top ten...?).
  2. Oh thank God for these new "high-tech" windows...I can finally drive in and out of the city without ducking every passerby. And now I wont have to drive so fast! I don't think there's ever been a day when i haven't had to fix up bullet holes and broken glass on my seat! Thanks WOIO for this information! Praise Jesus! I don't have to move to Medina or the Columbus suburbs now! *EXTREME SARCASM in case of any confusion.
  3. I think this is a great idea. I can put one in for Little Italy and may be even Hessler/University Circle? (how big is a neighborhood considered?)
  4. I think I've personally walked past everyone of these locations (yep even the last one...multiple times). I must really wander a lot. Usually these aren't the places you are looking while you walk, but they're all interesting in their own sense..especially the second to last pic of the alley. Great eye MayDay! EDIT: take that back, I've only driven the second picture..never walked.
  5. ^^Thanks for posting that KJP...I think sometimes we just need to be reminded of what once was. My family owned a music store (Costello's Music) on 105th and Euclid . Even though we were one of the last to hold out we had to finally sell in 1971, 3 years of no profit was too much. The building was knocked down shortly after. The pictures of the vibrant neighborhoods where the freeways currently are depress me the most.

We've been to the Eastern conference Finals (I believe '75-'76 and '91-'92...lost to the Bulls). Cavs have never been to an NBA Finals though.

I'm liking TNT's transitions between commericals....bridges of the cuyahoga, Lake Eire sunset, the Mather ship, RRHOF....just too bad Cleveland State University doesn't have help with their advertising...that commerical made me want to make sure and avoid the campus...c'mon, they could do so much better for National TV.
  9. This may need to warrant its own thread...but check this out. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Zaremba plots Youngstown neighborhood Posted by Henry J. Gomez May 08, 2007 15:14PM Categories: Breaking News, Economic development Nathan Zaremba, no stranger to ambitious urban revival projects, has chosen Youngstown for his next challenge. The Cleveland developer is pursuing a huge facelift for Smoky Hollow, an aging and depressed neighborhood that sits just east of the Mahoning County seat's main downtown corridor. Plans call for 270 homes and 20,000 square feet of retail.
  10. Thanks for the pictures MayDay! Too bad an UrbanOhio logo wouldn't show up too well on there. Oh well, maybe we can get our foot in the door a get one with Cleveland + ;) In regards to the smoke stack....lighting is always the best way to go for almost anything.
  11. I didn't see any basic "concert announcement" threads for Cleveland... I didn't want to to start a new thread for this, so hopefully this can serve as a catch all for smaller music concerts in Cleveland. --------------------------------------------------------- Matt and Kim 9 p.m. Tueday, May 8, $8 (all ages). The Grog Shop, 2785 Euclid Hts. Blvd., 216-321-5588. By D.X. Ferris Published: May 2, 2007 Subject(s): Matt and Kim Matt and Kim are just totally fun. Totally. Like a power-pop take on They Might Be Giants, with a (simulated) accordion and everything. They're even from Brooklyn, where they've developed a loyal following at loft parties, basements, art galleries, and clubs. They accurately describe their live sets as having the vibe of "an onstage pizza party." And they're so energetic, it's hard to sit still through their songs -- so while you should check them out at www.MySpace.com/MattAndKim, don't do it at work, because you'll start a pogo fest, and people two floors below will complain about the deafening noise from everyone shouting along. Seriously: Take a listen to "Yea Yeah." You'll smile from now until the show. And probably for a week after. At least. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I took a listen to their "yea yeah" and it is damn addicting...the first 40 secs are ok, but then it just kinda sticks to you and puts a damn, goofy smile on your face and you want to listen to it again....beware! haha
  12. Man, whoever has money right now...start building townhomes around Cleveland State....they will come! It is kinda sad we're all recommending places that require a commute, even if it is the the rapid.
  13. Honestly, don't forget about Little Italy....for the past 25-30, the neighborhood has been renting out to college kids (case, CIM, CIA, CSU...etc). You may be able to find a heck of a location and house at a reasonable price. EDIT SIDE NOTE: for whatever reason, little italy apartment has hardly ever listed online (hell even even the restaurants I've worked at weren't even listed until this year). If your considering the possibility, you may need to come scout it out and look for FOR RENT signs. Especially for college age kids, it definitely be a great place to consider.
  14. sorry for turning this into an auxilary pics page...but here are a few more: included: "two"-lane road in the middle of the island, and all you could eat food!
  15. yeah, I must have went there before it got expensive. We had 3 bedrooms suite on the side of the mountain for like $80 a night. Even flying there wasn't expensive (coming from Europe though)..like $250 a ticket. Like I said before, everything seemed underconstruction while I was there, and these pictures are from a very select area. I'm sure its much more different (and expensive!) nowadays...but everything felt very nice and new. Crains galore.

Besides the four historic buildings, I think the two newest ones look the next best. I don't know what happened in between '47 and '87. EDIT: And only the historic ones look like you'd be able to slide down the pool, haha.

Great article from the PD yesterday: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Musical showdown a no-show Monday, May 07, 2007 Jodie Valade Plain Dealer Reporter It could be a battle for the ages. Two heavyweight superstars, two masters of the same field, two at the top of their game. New Jersey versus Cleveland could be Jay-Z versus Usher: The battle of the minority owners/singers/entertainers. Sadly, it's not. Only half the battle showed up Sunday. Nets part-owner and hip-hop mogul Jay-Z arrived fashionably late, appearing at his front-row baseline seats with 2:42 left in the first half. He sat shouting distance from the Cavaliers' bench clad entirely in black and wearing sunglasses, and soon after he settled in his chair he began bantering with Cavaliers guard Damon Jones. Usher, meanwhile, who was a staple at The Q after he bought a minority share in the team in 2005, has not appeared at a game since early this season. Cavaliers majority owner Dan Gilbert said the R&B singer hasn't been forbidden to attend games, that Usher simply has been bogged down with touring, cutting an album and filming a movie. 19. Topic on strange school mascot names: JohnOSU99 My mom went to Point Pleasant High School (WVa.) home to the Big Black Knights which was often shorten to just Big Blacks. Can you imagine a bunch of rednecks at a football game yelling "Go Big Blacks!" MyTwoSense I'm not even going to touch this one! CDM this one is all yours baby! ColDayMan We'll give that one to MayDay...
  20. In regards to the eminent domain hearing about Wolstein wanting to rebuild the Flats in Cleveland where current with strip clubs holding out.
  21. Where I come from, you torch the buildings if they do not sell at your price! ;) Either way, I'm glad the Wolstein said everything will be built according to plan even if it has to come out of his pocket to pay what these property owners are asking. Just too bad the average Cleveland construction delay has to be prolonged even more with these several weeks of court appears...(80 witnesses?? on effing what? see below) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flats eminent domain trial opens Posted by Tom Breckenridge May 07, 2007 14:22PM Categories: Breaking News Developer Scott Wolstein is "a wolf in sheep's clothing'' who is using the Cleveland port authority to illegally seize land for his $230 million neighborhood development on the Flats east bank, lawyers for property owners say. Monday morning marked the start of the controversial eminent domain trial in Cuyahoga County Probate Court, where the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County port authority is suing to take nine properties for the development. Joe Sacco is such an awesome name--I think be going to these games now! Even though its not offical, could we rename this thread "Cleveland Lake Erie Monsters?" It just flows better with the rest of the topic headings. (and give s a shout out to Cleveland, hey hey!)

Lake Erie Monsters name Sacco new coach Posted by Staff reports May 07, 2007 12:29PM The Lake Erie Monsters hockey team has a coaching staff. The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that Joe Sacco has been named head coach and Sylvain Lefebvre has been named as an assistant coach. The Monsters, who will play in the American Hockey League, will launch their inaugural season in Cleveland in the fall. The Avalanche will independently run the team. Sacco, 38, will start his third season with the Avalanche organization. He was an assistant coach with each of the team's last two AHL-affiliate clubs in Lowell, Mass., and Albany, N.Y. 24. I disagree. Ownership can have a huge influence on what the attendance can be, especially in a town like Cleveland. Look at Dan Gilbert currently; he took the Cavs from absolute last to third overall in NBA. 32 out of th 41 games were sold out this year where a few years back, the Cavs were averages 10000 a game. (But of course he had the help of someone by the name of James.) Honestly, Gilbert reaches out to the fans with free stuff, enjoyable game atmospheres, and helps regulate the front office work. Have you guys been to a Cavs game in the past two years? They are frikin awesome! Larry Dolan could do so much more. There's no excuse to take over a team that has had 5 straight years on sold out games, let the streak end in one year, and not let them not be able to rebound even when they are winning, especially in a town like Cleveland where everyone is hungry for any team success at all! To have fallen to second worst attendance is a sin. I can't figure out if he doesn;t know how to own a team, just dosent care since he's so rich, or is purposely trying to discourage fans from coming. 2.9 million in the effing Cleveland metro alone, a winning team (and plus some with the rest of the state and area!), and you can't fill the stands? c'mon Dolan....Do something!
  25. ^^Have you ever lived there? It actaully does feel like it's far away from everything (except plays! ;)). My personal opinion: In two-three years it will be a good place to live once the Avenue District is complete, but not yet. It kinda feels like it's on an island surrounded by financial buildings and parking lots (but many are being filled in the next two years!). Especially for a newcomer who wants to feel more of a vibe, I wouldn't recommend it....yet.
