Cleveland Browns Discussion
This dosent mean that he will most likely be traded or axed; however, most Browns fans are eager for a new face and new feel (but who can blame them). Personally, I'd rather see Charlie play this year will Quinn taking limited snaps and getting a year under his belt. Most likely the Browns will do one of two things: 1) Let Charlie start the year and win/loss a few games, then put Quinn in for the rest of the year. 2) Start Charlie during preseason, but start Quinn all year (and maybe go back in forth in some games with Crennel putting in Frye since the fans are will be complaining when Quinn is doing bad). Either way doesn't lead to success. It's never a good situation when there are two quarterbacks, especially unproven ones. There will always be ups and downs for both and there's always that question of how the other one would be performing at that given moment. Once Phil Savage and Crennel (or the new tenure!) quit listening to the complaining fans for game to game decisions, I think we'll be fine. (I'm really not trying to sound like a negative Cleveland fan, since I unfortunitely don't have all the answers...) Go Brownies! Basically, I just hope there is no flip flopping of quarterbacks this year--hopefully we can just pick one and have his back.

Cleveland Locations: Have you been to all these?
Woollybear, How old are you? A lot of these things are very diverse...also, where do you currently live? What?!? Why?? I seriously thought they were making a lot of money off this. Most of the people I talked with were out-of-towners, tourists, and most of the concerts were full/sold-out. I love the additions. Honestly, the ones I left off that irk me the most were: 35) Chinatown/Asian plaza (preferbly lunch or dinner) - EVENTS: 13) Taste of Cleveland! - I still feel like I'm leaving out a big event or location (other random thoughts: Music concert downtown, sailing/jet skiiing on Lake Erie, CSU event, Hot Sauce Williams.., and Lake Erie Monsters Hockey coming soon.) Cleveland is also in the running for an MLS expansion team (professional soccer) for 2009.

An island leading the way for smart growth
I was actually there two years ago, and it seemed like the entire island was under construction or brand new(especially along the water). Here are a few pictures of what it looks like from the ground (and of myself so proof that I was there). I felt like I was the only American there. The girl in one of the pictures was my European girlfriend at the time from Holland. Plus I'm currently drinking Heineken right now!

Cleveland Locations: Have you been to all these?
This is mostly for Clevelanders, but anyone is welcome to respond. A week ago, I was shocked when I brought up to my friend from Euclid about the old Arcade. It finally came up "yeah, I know what you're talking about." Wait, you know what I'm talking about??.....well, have you ever been there?? "No, but I'm pretty sure I know where it is." This kid has lived in Euclid all his life, and only "knows what I'm talking about." Damn. So this brings up my curiousity: Is this is a suburbs mentality or a Cleveland mentality or both? Please fill out how many of these random places you've personally walked (and not know about or even walked past). Again, this is just a random list, since I know I'm leaving out a lot more the city has to offer. At the very least, I hope this can give people some ideas and brainstorm for what else the city has to offer: 1) The Old Arcade - 2) Westside Market - 3) Cleveland Musuem of Art - 4) Cleveland Musuem of Natural History - 5) Botanical Gardens - 6) Servance Hall for Cleveland Orchestra - 7) Playhouse Square (any of the playhouses) - 8) Cleveland Metroparks Zoo - 9) Rock n' Roll HOF - 10) Great Lakes Science Center - 11) Cleveland Browns Stadium (preferbly home game) - 12) Quicken Loans Arena (preferably home game) - 13) Jacob's Field (preferably home game) - 14) International Women's Air & Space Museum (Thanks 30 Rock!) - 15) Little Italy - 16) Lakeview Cemetery - 17) President Garfield's Monument (best view of Cleveland IMO) - 18) Slavic Village - 19) Rockefeller Cultural Gardens - 20) Rockefeller Greenhouse - 21) Western Reserve Historical Society - 22) E. 4th nightlife - 23) W. 6th nightlife - 24) Cleveland Public Library downtown - 25) The Nautica Queen Cruise Ship (dinner or cruise) - 26) Edgewater Park - 27) Case ImPROV/play or West Bank comedy club - 28) Great Lakes Brewery - 29) Shaker Square - 30) Ohio City - 31) Tremont - 32) Goodtime III - 33) Steamship William G. Next Episode of 30 Rock -- "Hiatus:" Maybe at least one more shout out to C-town? "As TGS' summer hiatus approaches, Liz deals with the difficulties of her long-distance relationship with Floyd while she enlists Kenneth's help in locating on-the-lam Tracy. Meanwhile, Jack's impending marriage to Phoebe brings his mother, Colleen Donaghy, to town." Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
and another thing...why are there no eff-ing signage on the coming restarants and Jazz club....like "Wonder Bar coming soon...Jazz Music, food, drinks" or "La Strada World Cafe..." or "Zocalo Catina coming soon"etc. It would look a hell of a lot better and let people know of there soon to be arrival (very very cheap advertising. Hell, I'd print off a damn sign for them for free if they asked...) The only reason I am saying this is because I took a buddy of mine to the Cavs playoff game and 4th Street Bar and Grill. As we were walking down E.4, he goes "Man, sure looks like a lot of places are going out of business here," refering to the empty and plywood storefronts.

I found out today that the 70 residental units above the Corner Alley are still 2 years away. Kinda frustrating this residental project as well is also taking so much time (....or purposely delaying?? I hope not) Seriously, is it because of strategic planning or a lack of current demand?

Cleveland: Innerbelt News
I've been to both Rotterdam and Boston in the past 2 years I can remember taking note of how cool the bridges look (and that Boston seemed to copy Rotterdam's Erasmus Bridge) All I'm saying is if this bridge is built in Cleveland, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world (unoriginal yes, but also fairly neat) 1) Boston: 2) Rotterdam (very crappy I know...I think I was on it and trying to take pictures of the scenery and hot women):

The expanded street access of the grocery store will completed by the end of this year according to a manager in the store. It doesn't have an outdated feel by any means...maybe it has recently been redone?

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Towering over Cleveland CLEVELAND, Apr. 18th - Like beacons signaling to the community that something BIG is about to happen, four gigantic 35’ x 25’ Cavaliers jerseys hang from high atop Cleveland’s most famous landmark, Terminal Tower. The jerseys symbolize the celebration of the Cavaliers’ appearance in the 2007 NBA Playoffs, which begins this Sunday, April 22nd vs. the Washington Wizards at Quicken Loans Arena. The Cavs playoff theme RISE UP! is emblazoned on the navy and wine jerseys, which are displayed front and back on each of the four quadrants of the tower. RISE UP! is a call to action for players, fans and the entire community to come together in support of the Cavaliers as they move onward and upward through the NBA Playoffs. More at www.cleveland.com

Cleveland High tech employers "Begging" for employees!
Seriously though, I could see an 'fine arts weekend' package. I'd feel better about it once Uptown is up and running. We have the best orchestra and a fantastic art museum. Fly to Cleveland for a Friday night at the orchestra, a Saturday morning at the West Side Market, an afternoon at the Art Museum, a Saturday night at the Cleveland Playhouse (any other ideas??), Sunday stroll through Lakeview Cemetery and an early evening flight back to home city. Well, in relevance to this article and statistic, I was referring to more long term--new residents to help fill the expanded vacancies. "We've done a terrible job of marketing ourselves as a booming tech region," Shah said. "From the numbers we've seen, finding talent may be our growth-limiting step," said Dorothy Baunach, president and chief executive of NorTech

Is Reserve Square a safe place to live?
I'll try and find out tomorrow when I go by there. All I know is that it will be on the E. 13th side and I had heard within the next year for completion (but it sounded like sooner). It's apparently supposed to cater to the Phase III residents of the Avenue District as well.

Cleveland Public Schools: News and Discussion
Interesting article from the CWRU newspaper: -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Observer, April 20, 2007 Volume XXXIX, Issue 25 Cleveland on Fire: Radical plan may provide solutions for Cleveland schools Jeffrey Verespej, Columnist Lack of funding, old facilities, unqualified teachers, racial issues, and staff cuts. The reasons and excuses created to attempt to explain why public schooling in Northeast Ohio is failing are endless and completely incorrect. While the Cleveland Municipal School District (CMSD) bears the brunt of bad publicity and dismal academic performance, other suburban districts are increasingly facing the same problems without a realistic solution. Charter schools, dress codes, and single-gender education will make improvements, but will not produce the impact necessary to turn around the district. Instead, the creation of a county-wide integrated school district will lift the academic woes of all areas in Northeast Ohio. Students in the CMSD cannot succeed in the current environment that they are in. The culture of poverty-stricken streets spills into the hallways of the schools and destroys the education process. In order to level the playing field for all students, the schools need to be desegregated. This may sound very similar to the disastrous busing situation that resulted from Brown v. Board of Education – a complete mistake because of its emphasis on race, which makes no difference in educational performance. What does make a difference, however, is the socioeconomic background of each pupil. A regional school district should integrate across the country by economics – not by race. Studies have proven that school districts with 20-30 percent of students from economically depressed backgrounds can raise the scores of the poorer students while still maintaining or raising the performance of students from a wealthier background. The plan for the new school system would design districts that maintained this 70:30 ratio at all schools. This would desegregate students who are economically disadvantaged and level the playing field. Wake County Public Schools in North Carolina – which pioneered this idea – has nearly 95 percent of its students testing at or above state standards. Although it is an undeniably daunting and radical task, the creation of the Cuyahoga County school district is possible and important. Opponents of this idea will point to the challenge of creating a school district for over 1.3 million people, cultural tensions, logistics of busing and facilities, and a lack of public support. The last argument must be tackled with one of the largest public information campaigns in the region's history. This campaign would explain every aspect of the idea ranging from why the system is vital to the tiny details of the desegregation process. Public support is necessary for the implementation and can be achieved through an open and honest process provided by public officials. People from different sides of town are culturally different even if they are of the same socioeconomic status, so this issue is the most contentious. However, as has been proven in Wake County, there has not been an exodus or protest beyond the initial apprehension. Furthermore, the system will not be designed so that all the less wealthy students are bussed out into the suburban communities, but rather all students will be moved around to create uniformity. The creation of magnet schools will draw the best students from all areas of the county in a variety of subjects and this will propel our children into the most prestigious colleges in the country. Lastly, to help with the issue of bussing students across the county, each school bus will make a limited number of stops where many students will wait – at the local library, school, or city hall. Some issues that are especially difficult to deal with are sports, activities, and jobs at the high school level. When students are not down the street from home, it is more difficult to partake in after school activities. However, this problem can be partially alleviated using a double-bus system – one that leaves immediately after the school day, and an express bus that leaves around 5 p.m. and gets students close to their homes. This transformation would go much farther than standardized testing in Northeast Ohio. As the schools are run today, a majority of families use the local school district as a major determinant of where they live. However, once those lines are re-drawn and all schools are essentially equal, there is a better chance that families will stop moving out and as Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said, "neighborhoods of choice" can be created. Furthermore, this would produce a region where families want to live and move to, which will retain and attract strong companies to Northeast Ohio. Lastly (and most importantly), this approach would finally give the children of our city a chance to develop and succeed. Although this is the most extreme proposal to fix Cleveland's educational woes, this is the only one that is transformative enough to create change. It has the potential to lift failing inner-city schools out of the basement and at the same time retain the strengths of many existing schools. This plan also comes at a cost to none and a gain to many – that is a regionally-oriented thought process at its most basic level, and it must happen for Northeast Ohio to move ahead of the curve in the 21st century.

"The Arcade" arcade does not have a lot of vacancy. I can only think of one or two store fronts which are empty. EDIT: Does anyone know when the 70 residental units in the three buildings above the Corner Alley will go on sale?

Is Reserve Square a safe place to live?
I know a few people who live there, and they don't seem to mind it. Here's what I've observed: 1) Indoor garage seems safe. There is a security guard on every level and it doesnt have that bad of lighting. (plus a cool view of the city when you're drivng up the ramp haha) 2) Overall. they do have security guards around the area and I didn't for once feel it was an unsafe place to live. I know they also have a grocery store (which they will be expanding to street access everyone in the next year!), swimming pool, close to the lake and theater district, bar, and other little restaruants around the area. Also, Where are you coming from? Have you looked around downtown as well?
