Nice addition in Penisula CVNP: Former Brandywine Country Club to become part of Cuyahoga Valley National Park The former Brandywine Country Club in Peninsula is officially becoming part of Cuyahoga Valley National Park. As part of the Great American Outdoors Act, which was signed into law by President Donald Trump this summer, $3.8 million will be used to acquire the property. The 215-acre former golf course at 5555 Akron-Peninsula Road has been closed since 2018 and was on the market for several months afterward, leading to speculation that the land might be sold for development. https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/news/local/2020/11/23/former-brandywine-country-club-golf-course-become-part-cuyahoga-valley-national-park/6393356002/

^ Completely unrelated to murder and occurring about 20 years prior...found a neat story (written in 1984 by Dartmouth College alum) talking about where Case School of Applied Science was the best football team in the state of Ohio (1902-1912)...and who would play Michigan and Ohio State annually. One thing I have not been able to track down is where the "Ohio State Award Trophy" sits on CWRU campus, mentioned in the article as created by the Buckeyes.
  4. Utility box art in Hough neighborhood and E.105 and Euclid:
  5. Some noticeable new construction between Crawford and Chester on E.85th — west side of the street had 5 tightly packed new houses going up. East side of the street has been cleared, so presumably something similar:
  6. Knez is becoming the king of the SE section of Wade Park area of Glenville. Dozens of “Knez homes” signs on open lots and new construction when you drive around E. 122nd, Lakeview Rd, etc... including several “SOLD” signs. Houses in the area used to sell for under $10K as recent as ten years ago... the Knez homes are selling for $299K.

  8. Relatedly, driving around there today, and neat to see renovated houses and new construction north of Chester. For example, on E. 89th Website from the sign in the yard: https://victorianestate89.com
  9. Found an inside picture of the attached structure directly behind the house (Italian-American fraternal hall—Sons of Italy auditorium). https://i2.wp.com/www.artographyonline.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/IMG_2355_HDRBW.jpg

Neat University Circle history fact: 100 years ago today (Nov 27, 1920) Alabama Crimson Tide football played their first game north of the Mason-Dixon against Case at Van Horn Field in University Circle.
  12. Owners of Western Reserve Building in Warehouse District want Cleveland tax incentives for renovations Updated 2:07 PM; Today 2:07 PM By Eric Heisig, cleveland.com CLEVELAND, Ohio – The owners of a historic office building in Cleveland’s Warehouse District want millions of dollars in tax incentives to renovate more than 40,000 square feet of space used by a marketing firm. The proposed 30-year tax increment financing district would allow the owners of the eight-story, 145,00-square-foot Western Reserve Building at 1468 W. 9th St. to put money toward paying down debt and renovations instead of property taxes. Revenue from the building for Cleveland schools would not be affected. https://www.cleveland.com/realestate-news/2020/11/owners-of-western-reserve-building-in-warehouse-district-want-cleveland-tax-incentives-for-renovations.html
  13. Nice! Cleveland Clinic also getting some shoutouts in the new 2020 HBO mini-series, "The Undoing." In the first two episodes, Nicole Kidman's doctor husband, Hugh Grant, is supposedly at the Cleveland Clinic for a pediatric oncology conference. It's mentioned several time in the story line.

  21. Awesome @Boomerang_Brian ! I like this location much better. Pretty neat to have these two architects' work side-by-side. University Circle, in general, boasts quite an impressive list of architects. EDIT: Side note, I never knew Philip Johnson (architect of Turning Point) and Marcel Breuer had such a close connection. From Johnson's wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Johnson When the rise of the Nazis in Germany forced the modernists Marcel Breuer and Mies van der Rohe to leave Germany, Johnson helped arrange for them to come to work in the United States.
