Cleveland Brewery / Beer / Alcohol News
A first in Lakewood, Immigrant Son Brewery planning spring opening Today 7:42 AM “We’re opening a 10-barrel system brewery that’s going to have 20 taps and a full-service kitchen,” said Revy, a 1990 Lakewood High School graduate. “We’re focusing both on the craft beer experience, as well as the culinary experience.” In addition to offering its initial four Immigrant Son Brewery flagship beers – an IPA, a saison, an English pub style ale and an American pilsner -- the bar will have lagers and pilsners on tap along with seasonal beers. “Our head brewer is Cara Baker, who is of award-winning fame,” Revy said. “Many people in Northeast Ohio are very familiar with her and her work. I’m very excited to give her the opportunity to make some great beers for Immigrant Son Brewery.” https://www.cleveland.com/community/2020/01/a-first-in-lakewood-immigrant-son-brewery-planning-spring-opening.html

Cleveland: Shaker Square: Development and News
Definitely fills in an ugly parking lot, plus no Dollar Store. The proposal from First Interstate Properties, dubbed "121 Larchmere" after the intersecting street, also provides a viable and welcome alternative to the dollar store that was on its way into the former Pick-n-Pay, Drug World and Life Skills Center. Not to mention: An existing Cleveland business has already been lined up to move into the space, with 20 to 25 employees and a $1.5 million annual payroll. "We're thrilled to have found a location in an east side City of Cleveland neighborhood, in an economically sound way," First Interstate President Mitchell Schneider said of the estimated $20 million development at the Jan. 8 Shaker Square Alliance meeting. Win-Win-Win.

I suppose I don’t have any qualifying evidence, but I’ll have to stand by my family’s oral history. I shot my father a quick text and he replied: It was the 5th District police station where a couple of the detectives were friends with my Dad. I remember Earl and Lenny. They checked on him often during the riots. Perhaps it was later re-districted?

Definitely 5th District. Back in the 1960's and 1970's, my grandpa owned a music store on E.105th and Euclid, and would speak highly of the folks in that building in his later years.

Cleveland: Downtown: Skyline 776 (City Club Apartments)
Cool. Digging the confirmation of mixed-used. According to the plans submitted to the city, the project would include first- and second-floor retail, topped by apartments ranging from studio to three-bedroom units. Site plans show an amenity space on the top floor. ----- EDIT: LOL ... Great UO-minds think alike!

Some interesting quotes towards the end about city zoning. Developer proposes townhome-style apartments in Ohio City Posted: 4:58 PM, Jan 09, 2020 Updated: 6:39 PM, Jan 09, 2020 By: Jordan Vandenberge CLEVELAND — A well-established developer who has completed numerous projects in Ohio City has proposed building a three-story, townhome-style apartment building near West 48th Street and Franklin Boulevard. Although the project still faces additional oversight and approvals by the city’s Board of Zoning Appeals and Landmarks Commission, the developer is optimistic the project can materialize relatively quickly. Chad Kertesz of My Place Group has proposed building 24 one bedroom and studio apartments, amounting to 12,000 square feet of total living space. The property, which is located at 4815 Franklin Blvd, would be wedged between a church on a the corner and a single family home to the west. It sits in the Franklin Blvd Historic District. https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/local-news/cleveland-metro/developer-proposes-townhome-style-apartments-in-ohio-city

Not sure whatever cities are not postponing the plastic bag ban, but I was at the Giant Eagle in Rocky River tonight and it’s definitely going into effect tomorrow here. i brought my reusable bags (that I learned to use in Portland who had a similar law). And the cashier said “you’re ahead of the game.” Confused since I thought the ban was being postponed, she said this giant eagle location is going paper bag only tomorrow (and they’ll be charging 10 cents a bag) So what cities is Cuyahoga County are going live tomorrow?- Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail
And a little more of an update: Towpath Trail Expansion, Summit Lake Improvements to Continue in 2020 The coalition was awarded $500,000 in 2019 for a key quarter-mile stretch connecting Stark and Tuscarawas counties. That segment, which will be built in 2020, meant working with five individual property owners. Work will continue in 2020 on many smaller trails as well, said Executive Director Dan Rice. “We’re working on about 500 miles of connector trails whether it’s the Freedom Trail, the Rubber City Heritage Trail or the Veterans Trail,” he said. “There are a lot of regional trails going throughout Northeast Ohio and every year progress continues to be made on these trail projects.” The organization also plans to work on a segment of the trail between Dover and Zoar in 2020. https://www.wksu.org/post/towpath-trail-expansion-summit-lake-improvements-continue-2020- Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail

^Insane. Tremont butchered first and now Ohio City. Reminder what was done in Tremont: https://fox8.com/2018/08/01/tree-trimming-causing-outrage-in-tremont-neighborhood/ Someone in Ohio City should let Portland, Oregon know they can extend their “Stumptown” branding over to us.
