  1. Little Italy apartment proposal sparks residents’ opposition, saying ‘respect the neighborhood’ Updated 8:16 AM; Today 8:07 AM By Jordyn Grzelewski, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio – A proposed Little Italy apartment project is going before the Cleveland Landmarks Commission on Thursday. The plan, however, is not without opposition from neighbors. Developers want to tear down two houses on Cornell Road to make way for an apartment building at Cornell and Murray Hill roads. The plan has evolved over the past several months as neighborhood residents raised concerns. Based on that feedback, developers tweaked their plans, scaling the project back from an initial proposal of 66 units to 50, and reducing the height of the building. Even with those changes, however, a neighborhood design-review committee that advises the city’s planning and landmarks commissions rejected the design at a meeting Tuesday, and some neighborhood residents say they are still dissatisfied. https://www.cleveland.com/business/2019/05/little-italy-apartment-proposal-sparks-residents-opposition-saying-respect-the-neighborhood.html

  6. ^Even at this price point, I have a feeling these Rocky River condos are going to sell rather quickly. This location is pretty much the best of all worlds in NEO..with close proximity to Lakewood/Cleveland, suburban shopping stuff, and, of course, nature of Lake Erie and the Rocky River/ Reservation. The condominiums will cost about $1 million and the townhouses $700,000. "Every unit will have lake views," Brickman said, as the 20 condominiums in a four-story building with a terrace-style design will "nestle into" the sloping site. The proposed 700 Lake project, which takes its name from a house formerly there, also incorporates 13 townhouses on the west side of Breezevale Cove.
  7. Making rounds across national news .. from the NY Post: Video shows deer crashing college baseball game in Ohio By Brett Gubitosi April 30, 2019 | 6:16pm | Updated They’re the rookies of the deer. It was bottom of the first inning with Case Western Reserve University’s baseball team up to bat — but suddenly away team Brandeis added three new players on the field — a trio of prancing deer. “We have a deer time out,” said CWRU Assistant Athletic Director and commentator Jon Schwartz in a video posted to Youtube. “Some things just kind of speak for themselves folks.” The animals made their way through the ballpark, darting by Brandeis’ confused outfielders, until they settled on left field as their prime seats for the game. The critters exited via right field about a minute later. “And after the rude greeting, the deer will depart,” commentated Schwartz. https://nypost.com/2019/04/30/video-shows-deer-crashing-college-baseball-game-in-ohio/
  8. We're about 30 years too late, since relocating...although they do still give their address as "Cleveland, OH" on all official material. Not sure how that works, but their mailing address is Cleveland. For their first 70 years, their first four HQ's were in Cleveland city boundaries...1115 Schofleld Building, W.25th St, 10320 Berea Rd, and 17325 Euclid Ave. And they still throw some change in and around Cleveland State and the Galleria ?

Whales along Cleveland’s East Shoreway set to get a splash of new paint Updated Apr 15, 9:30 PM; Posted Apr 15, 5:58 PM By Robert Higgs, cleveland.com CLEVELAND, Ohio – The whales adorning the mural on the Cleveland Public Power building along Lake Erie will be getting a refreshing splash of paint. City Council voted unanimously Monday evening to accept a gift from the Wyland Foundation to restore the mural, “The Song of Whales,” which the artist simply known as Wyland completed in 1997. The mural was part of an enormous arts-in-public-places project that included 100 life-size marine murals created in a 30-year span in 17 countries. https://www.cleveland.com/cityhall/2019/04/whales-along-clevelands-east-shoreway-set-to-get-a-splash-of-new-paint.html

  25. Cross-posted from the Case Western Reserve thread: Case Western Reserve, Cleveland Clinic launch new era of health education with Samson Pavilion dedication Innovative architectural design and state-of-the-future technology to welcome students from dental, medical and nursing schools APRIL 9, 2019 Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Clinic launched a new era of health education today in dedicating the centerpiece of their new campus, the Sheila and Eric Samson Pavilion. “The dedication of the Sheila and Eric Samson Pavilion demonstrates the extraordinary value that the spirit of philanthropy brings to new generations of students. The Health Education Campus will have a major impact on advancing medical education and patient care,” said Tom Mihaljevic, MD, Cleveland Clinic chief executive officer and president. “Its unique curricula and design will inspire health care professionals to be members of interdisciplinary teams and promote lifelong learning.” This spring, the four-story, 477,000-square-foot building opens to 2,200 students from Case Western Reserve’s dental, nursing, and medical schools, including those from Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. Students from the university’s social work school also will come to the Samson Pavilion for shared coursework, but will continue to take the majority of their classes in their own newly renovated building on Case Western Reserve’s main campus. As designed by London architects Foster + Partners, perhaps the most striking part of the Samson Pavilion is the 80-foot-high, 27,000-square-foot central courtyard newly named the Delos M. Cosgrove Courtyard through a generous gift from the outgoing chair of Cleveland Clinic’s Board of Directors, Robert E. Rich Jr., and his wife, Mindy. Dr. Cosgrove is the past CEO and president of Cleveland Clinic and currently serves as an executive adviser. https://thedaily.case.edu/case-western-reserve-cleveland-clinic-launch-new-era-of-health-education-with-samson-pavilion-dedication/
