Today 9:03 AM By Mark Naymik, cleveland.com CLEVELAND, Ohio – League Park, the historic baseball field at East 66th Street and Lexington Avenue in the Hough neighborhood, is getting a new neighbor. Renovation on the decaying building across the street from the ballpark is expected to start in May. Bob Zimmer, who sells real estate and is president of the Baseball Heritage Museum at League Park, has been working for years on plans to renovate the corner building to help spark more development around the ball park. https://www.cleveland.com/news/2019/03/league-park-neighborhood-to-see-new-development-what-you-need-to-know.html

^ I had posted in the Cleveland population thread, but I'll repost here. For what it's worth: My wife and I recently toured Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital maternity ward for our upcoming kiddo. Six couples were on the tour, and we had our group introductions. Five of the six couples had relocated to the Cleveland area within the past 9 months -- no joke! A couple were boomerangs (including us), but they were also returning with +1 or +2 or +3 back to the metro area. And a few were completely new to the area. The nurse even made a comment about how all her recent tours have been mostly newcomers...or something to that effect. ---- We can probably put this in the same bucket as out-of-town license plates...but it seemed like too odd of an experience not to report back here.- Cleveland: Random Photos

Since this is UO and we're allowed to armchair nitpick -- I really dislike the east-west sides of the residential tower. It seems too 1970's hotel to me. There's opportunity for something more creative and aesthetic. For example, rounded glass. Pardon my crappy editing skills: Honestly just about any tweak would be an improvement.- Cleveland Browns Discussion

CWRU Medical School #1 in Ohio, Top 25 in the nation. I wonder if its ever so increasing alignment with the Cleveland Clinic will continue to improve its national ranking. Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine ranks No. 1 in Ohio Posted: 11:32 AM, Mar 12, 2019 By: Kaylyn Hlavaty CLEVELAND — Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine has made the No. 1 spot as the best research-oriented medical school in Ohio, according to a ranking from U.S. News & World Report. In addition to the No. 1 spot, the school ranked one of the leading schools in America at No. 24. The medical school includes two programs— a university program with entering classes of about 180 and the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine program, with a size of 32 students each year. In 2018, approximately 2,000 students applied for the 32 spots. https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/education/case-western-reserve-university-school-of-medicine-ranks-no-1-in-ohio- Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News

I've been digging into recently released (as of 1/16/2019) digital CWRU newspaper stacks (dating back to 1862): Here's one of the best maps I've found of University Circle, pre-demolition of all the houses on Magnolia,Carlton Rd, Juniper, Mistoletoe, Bellflower, E. 115th - E.118. Murray Hill Road, the "triangle area," etc. 1970 University Circle (also note the great articles on pages 7, 8 ,9 and 10? https://newspapers.case.edu/?a=d&d=OBS19700407-01.2.33&srpos=1&e=-------en-20--1-byDA-txt-txIN-Carlton+demolition------ It's a miracle anything survived with this level of carnage. - There were a ton of carriage houses on Bellflower Court (not just the surviving L'Albatross and Dave's Cosmic subs) to go along with the mansions. - Carlton Rd lost some serious mansions (and that is Cleveland city limits) As did E.115th St, which isn't talked about much. - Ursuline College used to be in University Circle? Same with Cathredral Latin? - Case Tech Main was still standing (https://picclick.com/Case-School-Of-Applied-Science-Cleveland-Ohio-Oh-200390862150.html#&gid=1&pid=1) - "VA Hospital site" and "Mt Sinai Hosptial" are both noteworthy ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Plus a couple snip-its on the survival of Hessler: https://newspapers.case.edu/?a=d&d=RT19690207-01.2.16&srpos=108&e=-------en-20--101-byDA-txt-txIN-hessler------ https://newspapers.case.edu/?a=d&d=RT19690228-01.2.46&srpos=110&e=-------en-20--101-byDA-txt-txIN-hessler------- Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
And before that, it was a beer hall by Hamilton Biggar III ? (In 1973). Check it out, there's even a picture of the mansion that used to be there: https://newspapers.case.edu/?a=d&d=OBS19730508-01.2.29&srpos=90&e=-------en-20--81-byDA-txt-txIN-juniper------ Edit: scratch that, I see the Olive Tree is mentioned are going in in 1967: https://newspapers.case.edu/?a=d&d=RT19670421-01.2.4&srpos=42&e=-------en-20--41-byDA-txt-txIN-juniper------ Official name will be "Dave's Cosmic Subs and Music." And one more bit of news out of Midtown: Masonic Temple reborn at 100: inside the mysterious, historic landmark (photos) By John Petkovic, The Plain Dealer | Posted on March 10, 2019 5:05 AM | Updated March 10, 2019 10:46 AM The Masonic Temple, a mainstay in Cleveland’s cultural life for 100 years, is experiencing a revival. The hulking 220,000-square-foot complex on East 36th Street and Euclid Avenue has transformed from an architectural curiosity of another era to one of the area’s most opulent, acoustically-rich concert venues. https://www.cleveland.com/expo/life-and-culture/g66l-2019/03/a7f019d14d3484/masonic-temple-reborn-at-100-inside-the-mysterious-historic-landmark-photos.html- Cleveland: Midtown: Development and News

Cleveland Foundation’s potential move to Dunham Tavern land in Midtown draws ire Updated 11:05 AM; Today 5:00 AM By Jordyn Grzelewski, The Plain Dealer Those with knowledge of the foundation’s search said the Midtown site is a property at Euclid Avenue and East 66th Street, owned by Dunham Tavern Museum. The foundation confirmed. The proposal to sell and develop this site, which the museum had been turning into a community park, has drawn the ire of some museum members and donors and has divided the 20-person museum board. At the heart of the controversy is the best use of the green space next to the museum. Dunham Tavern, the oldest building in Cleveland at its original location, is now a history museum with a stated vision of providing “an urban green space in Midtown Cleveland and [returning] the tavern to its roots by serving as a place for urban history, education, nature and community.” In 2012, the museum, based at 6709 Euclid Ave., bought 2.28 acres at 6611 Euclid Ave., reincorporating some of the historic site’s original footprint into the museum’s holdings. After a significant fundraising effort, the museum spent more than $900,000 to buy the land and tear down an old industrial building. https://www.cleveland.com/business/2019/03/cleveland-foundations-potential-move-to-dunham-tavern-land-in-midtown-draws-ire.html- Cleveland: Little Italy: Development and News

Yes. But they've also recently done some major rebranding to be called the "Cleveland History Center"....maybe my question should be instead, "I wonder if there will be a connection / extension of the Cleveland History Center in University Circle."
