Connecticut Western Reserve
Western Reserve's Hale Farm has a lot of older structures. The main house dates back to 1825, but I think it has origins back to 1810. https://www.wrhs.org/plan-your-visit/hale-farm/ Another reason to visit -- you can go inside most of the houses and structures.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Seriously, this is HUGE news! The acquisition, which includes USAA's 529 College Savings Plan, is expected to close in the second quarter of 2019, pending regulatory and shareholder approvals. As an owner / contributor to a USAA 529K plan, I approve of the acquisition on a personal level as well. ?

Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
Proformex of Westlake looking to move offices downtown Updated Oct 29; Posted 7:00 AM By Michael Piskor WESTLAKE, Ohio -- Proformex, based in Westlake, has developed a new automated life insurance software platform that will provide peace of mind to policy owners, as well as to agency firms that manage those insurance policies. Proformex, currently with 24 employees, is set up for life insurance agencies to equip themselves with the tools they need to keep accurate and up to date meta-information on their clients at all times. Information can get lost easily, insurance agents may end up mishandling information or even fail to address a mistake or update in a timely manner. Clients who subscribe to firms that use this software will be better protected and less likely to roll into mishaps on the insurance agent side of the spectrum. Proformex is in the process of moving their office to downtown Cleveland. “With our expected continued growth, we're planning to double that number in the next 18 months. With tremendous growth, we've completely outgrown our space, and are actively seeking new space that will be aligned with our strategic initiatives,” Beck said. https://www.cleveland.com/business/2018/11/proformex-of-westlake-looking-to-move-offices-downtown.html

Case Western Reserve University Spartans Athletics Discussion
Biggest game of the season for #16/#19 Case Western Reserve as they travel to #10/#12 Washington & Jefferson. The national website D3football.com wrote a feature on the Spartans...pretty cool as there are 250 teams in DIII. Case finally gets crack at Presidents Posted: Oct 02, 2018 By Joe Sager D3sports.com It’s been nearly three years since they faced each other on the football field, but Case Western Reserve and Washington & Jefferson are pretty familiar with each other. The programs have been among the PAC’s elite, but didn’t actually meet on the gridiron the past two seasons due to the PAC’s unbalanced schedule. So, Saturday’s clash in Washington, Pennsylvania, is the squads’ first encounter since CWRU posted a 35-28 home win on Oct. 24, 2015. Last year, both squads went 8-0 in PAC play and shared the championship. The league’s tiebreaker (strength of conference victories) gave the Presidents the PAC’s automatic bid to the playoffs, while the Spartans earned an at-large berth. They hoped for a showdown in the postseason, but the head-to-head matchup did not materialize. They are two of the PAC favorites this year, too, and enter the game unbeaten – W&J is 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the PAC, while CWRU is 4-0, 3-0. http://www.d3football.com/columns/features/2018/case-finally-crack-at-unseating-presidents

So very sad :( Man killed in Cleveland shooting was driven but generous business owner, sister says Updated Oct 3, 4:53 PM; Posted Oct 3, 7:00 AM By Evan MacDonald, cleveland.com, emacdonaldCleveland[/member].com CLEVELAND, Ohio - A Cleveland man shot and killed last month was a driven but caring businessman who also used the rental properties he owned to help people in need, his sister said. Victor Maar Jr. founded a business, Home Restoration Investments, in his mid-20s and owned nine properties in the Greater Cleveland area. He used those properties to give a home to an elderly military veteran, his sister said. Posts on Maar's Facebook page also include stories of his generosity, such as the time he used one of his homes to store heirlooms that belonged to a friend's mother. "He had so much drive, and he cared about his business so much," said his sister, Wendy Streeter. "[His death] is a great loss. Lots of people are really down right now." Maar, 35, was shot and killed Sept. 16 at a duplex he owned on West 146th Street near Mitchell Avenue. The shooting happened after Maar confronted an 18-year-old man and told him to leave the duplex, Streeter said. https://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2018/10/man_killed_in_cleveland_shooti_2.html

72 of America's best sailors take on Cleveland in U.S. Sailing's Hinman Trophy championship By Laura Johnston, RocktheLake | Posted September 29, 2018 at 06:49 AM | Updated September 29, 2018 at 06:52 AM CLEVELAND, Ohio – Think of it as a combination of soccer, rugby and chess – six sailboats at a time. Team sail racing is the most dynamic of sailing events, and its U.S. Sailing national championship is in Cleveland this weekend. That means 12 top teams are duking it out at the Old Coast Guard Station for the George R. Hinman Trophy and the chance to enter the 2019 World Sailing Team Racing Championship. The College of Charleston team -- the defending college sailing champs -- called the Old Coast Guard Station fantastic. Sailors from the San Diego said they could be persuaded to become Browns fans. “This is just incredible for Cleveland,” Patterson said. “The goal here by having this event is to showcase Cleveland, the Cleveland Harbor, the Foundry and Lake Erie to the U.S, and the rest of the world and show everybody that we can host some of the greatest racing in the world.” https://www.cleveland.com/expo/news/erry-2018/09/7b6bc3acb27041/72-of-americas-best-sailors-ta.html

The offense is AVERAGING 50 points and 500+ yards a game lead by the newcomer, true freshman QB: A Division III Baker Mayfield? CWRU freshman QB makes strong first impression, too Updated 5:31 AM; Posted 5:30 AM By Mike Peticca CLEVELAND, Ohio -- There's not just one quarterback in Cleveland making a strong first impression in his rookie season. Drew Saxton may never achieve Baker Mayfield's fame, though he aspires for an even more meaningful career. As a true freshman at Division III Case Western Reserve University, it's virtually certain Saxton won't develop into the first pick of the NFL draft, as the Browns made Mayfield. https://www.cleveland.com/sports/index.ssf/2018/09/a_division_iii_baker_mayfield.html

Bernie, Bernie, Bernie !!! Bernie Moreno sells Mercedes, charter flights, a voting app and more: My Cleveland By Grant Segall, The Plain Dealer | Posted September 20, 2018 at 09:30 AM | Updated September 24, 2018 at 05:39 PM The people who love Cleveland the most are the ones who moved here. Cleveland feels like a traditional small town, but it has everything a big city does. Three sports teams, great orchestra, better theater than Boston. We need to think bigger and take more risks. We should expect more, like in public transportation. We should expect transparency in government. But we should always be cheerleaders for Cleveland. https://www.cleveland.com/expo/life-and-culture/erry-2018/09/12a3bc7c7d3448/bernie-moreno-sells-mercedes-c.html
