  2. Sounds like they need some help: Puerto Ricans Resettled In Cleveland Still Struggling One Year After Maria AUTHOR Lecia Bushak PUBLISHED September 20, 2018 In Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood at the Spanish American Committee, the last year has seen a flow of people resettling from Puerto Rico — and it’s not stopping anytime soon, says Executive Director Ramonita Vargas. "This organization has seen over 780 families, and over 1800 individuals in the last year and still coming every day," Vargas said. Vargas says many of those 1800 people have applied for housing through Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority, but most are still displaced, living out of friends’ basements or shelters, one year later. "10 percent of the people that have come here and put in the application for CMHA have found apartments," Vargas said. "10 percent. And 15 percent have found jobs. But the rest are still just looking, waiting." http://www.ideastream.org/news/puerto-ricans-resettled-in-cleveland-still-struggling-one-year-after-maria
  3. President Babs has built a machine when it comes to pulling in money for the university: University supporters commit more than $200 million in 2017-2018 September 18, 2018 Case Western Reserve’s contributors outdid themselves in the final full year of the Forward Thinking capital campaign, contributing a record-breaking $208 million in gifts and pledges—and setting more than a dozen more all-time highs in individual categories. The total for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2018, represents the first time in university history that annual attainment broke the $200 million mark—more than double the amount raised in the 2008 fiscal year and more than triple the figure for FY 2007. Launched publicly in 2011 with a $1 billion goal, the Forward Thinking campaign has broken all-time annual giving records for eight consecutive years. In 2014, campaign giving passed the $1 billion threshold, 2.5 years ahead of schedule. University leaders elected to increase the goal to $1.5 billion, and extend the campaign’s end date by two years, to Dec. 31, 2018. Case Western Reserve’s supporters then took the campaign past its 50 percent higher goal in the summer of 2017. As of Aug. 31, the campaign’s total was just shy of $1.72 billion. http://thedaily.case.edu/university-supporters-commit-200-million-2017-2018/

  18. Incuyafestival in Downtown Cleveland yesterday and today. InCuya Music Festival enjoys a stunning inaugural in downtown Cleveland Updated 9:38 AM; Posted Aug 25, 7:25 PM By Chuck Yarborough, The Plain Dealer [email protected] CLEVELAND, Ohio - This year's installment of the World Series of Rock fe . . . Wait, that wasn't the World Series of Rock. What was on Malls B and C of downtown Cleveland Saturday - the first of two days of live music - was the inaugural InCuya Music Festival. It's too early to say whether the festival will live up to the legend status of the WSOR, which ran from 1974 to 1980. But it is not too early - by a long shot - to declare the InCuya Music Festival a success. The two grassy knolls in downtown Cleveland were designed for something like this - and honestly, should and probably will be used for other events, based on the reception fans gave the brainchild of Cleveland Concert Company. https://www.cleveland.com/music/index.ssf/2018/08/incuya_music_festival_enjoys_a.html

  21. I still find it bizarre the Plain Dealer barely covers Case Western Reserve football, when it's thee only football team in the city limits at the college level. From the News Herald: Case football team impresses in scrimmage; John Carroll coach says his team ‘average’ By Mark Podolski, The News-Herald POSTED: 08/24/18, 8:43 PM EDT | UPDATED: 5 HRS AGO 0 With the regular season fast approaching, Coaches Greg Debeljak and Rick Finotti might be in different mindsets entering 2018. Debeljak’s Case Western Reserve team lost 25 seniors from the 2017 team that went 11-1 and made it to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. Finotti’s John Carroll Blue Streaks, with 18 starters returning, are looking for more after a 6-4 campaign in the coach’s first year. On Aug. 24, the teams faced off in a scrimmage, and the young Spartans held their own at Don Shula Stadium. Quarterbacks Drew Saxton, a true freshman who finished his high school career at South Fayette as one of Western Pennsylvania’s all-time leader passers, threw a touchdown pass early on to help Case win, 22-17, in one half that featured the starters. http://www.news-herald.com/sports/20180824/case-football-team-impresses-in-scrimmage-john-carroll-coach-says-his-team-average?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_content=tw-newsheraldinoh&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=socialflow
