Case Tech Western Reserve John Carroll Baldwin Wallace Huge crowds back then for league games. Check out this photo from 1935 of Baldwin Wallace @ Western Reserve, back when Cleveland supported its local college football: https://books.google.com/books?id=RFvzem5opK0C&pg=PT129&lpg=PT129&dq=%22western+reserve%22+%22baldwin+wallace%22+football+league+park&source=bl&ots=gXwrx3lpZH&sig=rtyDX_b30TKDexo-JLnuwO_fgOw&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwij1cSoivTVAhUB5mMKHVbmBqQ4ChDoAQgmMAA#v=onepage&q=%22western%20reserve%22%20%22baldwin%20wallace%22%20football%20league%20park&f=false Cleveland had its own Big Four Conference, which was formed in 1933 consisting of Baldwin-Wallace, Case Tech, John Carroll, and Western Reserve. Some of the highest attended games in school history occurred during this decade, needing to be played at Cleveland Municipal Stadium and League Park to handle the larger crowds. The champion received the Douglas S. Campbell Trophy. Case Tech won the inaugural in 1933 and then Western Reserve won eight out of the next nine—1934, 1935, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1940, 1941, and 1942. The local tradition came to an end due to the interruption of World War II. Per wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Case_Western_Reserve_Spartans_football#Pre-merger

Also Saturday night (8/26) at 6 PM, #8-ranked John Carroll is traveling to #22-ranked Case Western Reserve for a preseason football scrimmage. (Note: there at 249 teams in NCAA DIII). Probably the most football talent on the field in Cleveland not being reported. So if you're looking to hang out in University Circle/Little Italy this Saturday night, pop over for DiSanto Field for some free local football. Reminiscent of the old Cleveland city "Big Four" days. EDIT: Please disregard. The scrimmage happened tonight (Friday). The date was listed incorrectly from the News Herald. This also reinforces the lack of local media coverage for Case Western Reserve and John Carroll football.

Construction begins on the Nord Family Greenway Dalia Zullig and Lyndsey Cole • August 25, 2017 As students move into their Residence Halls before the beginning of the 2017-18 school year, they will notice an expansive construction project underway on the west side of campus. While construction is nothing out of the ordinary for Case Western Reserve University students, this project is particularly unique. When completed, the Nord Family Greenway will stretch from the Tinkham Veale University Center all the way to the newly renovated Milton and Tamar Maltz Performing Arts Center, located along E. 105 street. This will provide a pathway for students, along with other residents of Cleveland, to walk from Uptown to Hough. http://observer.case.edu/construction-begins-on-the-nord-family-greenway/

New historical marker on Case Western Reserve campus regarding its abolistionist history. People may not realize, but Western Reserve College was enrolling multiple African Americans pre Civil War as early as 1832 (predating even Oberlin, who tends to brag about it's own abolitionist origins in Ohio). https://mobile.twitter.com/pashulman/status/900745952931303424 But still missing that East 105th and Euclid first traffic light Historical Marker... :/

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
I Chose Cleveland Over My Ex-Boyfriend, and I Have No Regrets August 11, 2017 By Jeanne Li Cleveland is my city, my home, my direction. But for Dean, Cleveland is filled with bad memories he needs to escape. He’s lived here his whole life. He thinks he's maxed out the possibilities for new friendships and connections. He hates the small-town feel and that you can bump into a friend or acquaintance anywhere, which I adore. He needs something new, needs to leave to find purpose. I need to stay. I don’t really believe in fate, but I can only describe my time in Cleveland as one of magical serendipity. I first came to Cleveland on a whim in August 2007 to attend Case Western Reserve University. It was wonderful. I met my best friend. I got a great education. And I met Dean, who was one of the first guys to message me on OkCupid. Compared to the usual “hey girl, sup” notes, his several-paragraphs-long message was intriguing. We met at a bar a week later and shut the place down. https://www.self.com/story/i-chose-cleveland-over-my-ex

Cleveland: Cleveland Clinic News & Info
  Cleveland Clinic named No. 2 hospital by U.S. News for the second consecutive year Updated on August 8, 2017 at 12:02 AM Posted on August 8, 2017 at 12:01 AM By Ginger Christ, The Plain Dealer [email protected] CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland Clinic for the second consecutive year scored the second place spot on the U.S. News & World Report, buoyed in part by its top rankings in urology and cardiology. For the 23rd straight year, U.S. News ranked the Clinic the No. 1 hospital for cardiology and heart surgery. Similarly, its urology program has ranked as No. 1 or No. 2 in the U.S. News report for the past 18 years. Only the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota beat out the Clinic for the top ranking, a position it has held for the past two years. Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore came in at No. 3. Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston took the No. 4 spot, and UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco came in No. 5. http://www.cleveland.com/healthfit/index.ssf/2017/08/cleveland_clinic_named_no_2_ho.html#incart_2box

Alternative Press Music Awards tonight: Despite venue change, APMAs aim for local and global domination Updated on July 17, 2017 at 8:18 AM Last year's APMAs reached over 500,000 viewers around the world via Amazon Music and its official Twitch channel. The show hopes to double, if not triple, that number this year with a venue more befitting an awards show. The genesis for the idea took place several months ago when Shea began examining made-for-TV events like the Grammys and the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. He wanted to emulate their flashy camera angles, smooth flow and eye-popping visuals that grab you on TV. "With the move to State Theatre, it's very much like the Tony Awards now in a way," says Shea. "You're going to have these cool camera angles that show rows and rows of kids all dressed up in this beautiful, ornate opera house." http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2017/07/despite_venue_change_mondays_a.html#incart_m-rpt-2
