Just a little history Cleveland fun fact on Lebron James :) LeBron James Is Making His Cleveland Ancestors Proud Posted: 06/15/2015 8:54 am EDT Updated: 06/15/2015 9:59 am EDT LeBron has classic, Great Migration heritage, and two branches of his family tree made their way from the South to Cleveland. The Gay family was first, arriving from Conyers, Georgia in the 19-teens, and just a few years later, his Anderson line ventured there from Hardeman County, Tennessee. The two families were united through the marriage of LeBron's great-great-grandparents in 1926 (above). Four years later, one of his great-grandmothers would be born in Cleveland, and the 1930 census captured three generations living together at 3158 East 82nd Street. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/megan-smolenyak-smolenyak/lebron-james-is-making-hi_b_7584918.html
  9. I had thought this already was a done deal: Jewish Federation of Cleveland gets $3.6 million for former headquarters By Michelle Jarboe McFee, The Plain Dealer June 15, 2015 at 1:06 PM, updated June 15, 2015 at 1:40 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- More than 18 months after a student-housing developer sought early approvals to raze two former Jewish Federation of Cleveland properties on Euclid Avenue, the empty buildings have changed hands. Real estate records show that the federation, now based in Beachwood, sold its former headquarters and a neighboring office building for nearly $3.6 million on Wednesday. A joint venture between Clayco Realty Group and the Koman Group, both out-of-state developers, plans to demolish the buildings and replace them with a 535-bed apartment building serving college students and a single-story parking structure on Prospect Avenue. The Cleveland City Planning Commission signed off on designs for the apartments in February. Construction could start later this year. The Jewish Federation left downtown Cleveland for the suburbs in 2010, emptying out its longtime headquarters and the Rogers Building at 1720 and 1750 Euclid Ave., respectively. In late 2013, the planning commission approved Clayco's request to demolish those buildings, but the properties sat dormant as the company pared its plans and tried to scrape together financing. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2015/06/jewish_federation_of_cleveland.html

  11. Cleveland snaps New Markets Tax Credits dry spell; region wins $95 million By Michelle Jarboe McFee, The Plain Dealer June 15, 2015 at 5:34 PM, updated June 15, 2015 at 6:34 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A Cleveland-based fund won $50 million worth of federal tax credits Monday to support Cuyahoga County real estate projects, breaking a dry spell that posed financing challenges for complex developments in cash-strapped areas. And an Akron-based fund nabbed a $45 million allocation of New Markets Tax Credits, according to an announcement from the U.S. Treasury Department. That fund, managed by the Development Finance Authority of Summit County, targets investments across 17 other counties. The region-wide, $95 million win comes on the heels of a rough year for Northeast Ohio community-development groups. In June 2014, all of the local applicants missed out on New Markets, which are awarded once each year and are designed to spur investment in low-income communities. Organizations like Cleveland Development Advisors, an arm of the Greater Cleveland Partnership, use the credits to fill financing gaps and attract private money to projects that might otherwise be overlooked. Companies and individuals who invest in those projects get a credit, in turn, to use against their federal income-tax bills. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2015/06/cleveland_snaps_new_markets_ta.html

  18. United Church of Christ finds buyer for downtown Cleveland HQ, Radisson hotel By Michelle Jarboe McFee, The Plain Dealer Email the author | Follow on Twitter on June 10, 2015 at 4:09 PM, updated June 10, 2015 at 6:16 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The United Church of Christ has struck a deal to sell its Prospect Avenue headquarters building and the neighboring Radisson hotel. The organization, a Protestant denomination that represents more than 5,100 congregations and 1 million members, has no plans to leave Cleveland. But the church will sell its downtown holdings to Global Management & Investments, an Atlanta-area hospitality company that plans to renovate the 142-room Radisson. The UCC expects to lease back its nine-story headquarters building from the new owner, under a 20-year agreement. The sales, at an undisclosed price, could occur by mid-August. "We always intended to stay in downtown Cleveland," Lee Foley, chief administrative officer for the church, said in a news release. "We were the first major property owner in this part of Cleveland in the early 1990s. It was a very blighted area, and now it's vibrant and teeming with people." http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2015/06/united_church_of_christ_finds.html
