Cleveland Public Schools: News and Discussion
Very sad: Cleveland schools failed to collect $8.5 million in federal rebates, so you paid the bill instead CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland taxpayers were stuck with an $8.5 million bill for technology upgrades in schools that they didn't have to pay - if only the city school district had followed the right procedure to receive federal "E-Rate" rebates on the costs. A new report by the Bond Accountability Commission, the district's construction watchdog panel, found that district officials failed on multiple occasions to collect federal rebates on internet connectivity and communications equipment installed in new schools between 2006 and 2011. Though the district had pre-approval from the so-called "E-Rate" program for $12.28 million in rebates on the work, it received only $3.71 million, the report states. About $6.6 million of the $8.5 million was never claimed - all despite the district paying for the work and sometimes receiving two-year extensions on rebate deadlines. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2015/04/cleveland_school_district_fail.html

LeBron honored with local award AKRON, Ohio -- LeBron James may not add another NBA MVP trophy to his collection this year. He's got an award, though, that just might mean a little more. On Tuesday night, the Cavaliers superstar, who returned to Northeast Ohio last summer after four seasons in Miami, was honored by his hometown with a distinguished award for leadership, inspiring youth and philanthropic efforts. James was given the H. Peter Burg Award during the Greater Akron Chamber's annual meeting held inside historic Goodyear Hall, once home of the Akron Wingfoots, a professional basketball team in the 1930s. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/12596400/cleveland-cavaliers-star-lebron-james-honored-akron-civic-award

Great idea -- Let's reclaim lakefront property. Developers could potentially build another Battery Park-esque new neighborhood as part of the total redevelopment of such prime real estate... And add a new elementary school??

RTA issues apology after Lakewood woman says she was roughed up by officer, wrongfully arrested By Brandon Blackwell, Northeast Ohio Media Group Email the author | Follow on Twitter on March 31, 2015 at 3:36 PM, updated March 31, 2015 at 5:19 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority on Tuesday issued an apology to a Lakewood woman who said that she was roughed up by an RTA officer without cause. The incident happened late Sunday at the RTA station on West 117th Street and Madison Avenue. Jessica Ferrato, 39, said that she was making her way home from the Cleveland International Film Festival in downtown when an RTA officer standing just outside the station doors demanded to see her bus pass. Ferrato showed the officer her pass and continued walking toward her car parked in the lot, but the officer wasn't satisfied, she said. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2015/03/rta_issues_apology_to_lakewood.html

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Most disturbing is not even the select few who are doing the sucker punching and robbing, but the youths... who may not be in association with the initial perpetrators... who see the need to jump on or get a kick on the obvious victim. Degradation of society, comparable to other countries mentioned above.

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
Santorini opens in Cleveland Warehouse District with Greek cuisine, stellar cocktails (photos) By John Petkovic, The Plain Dealer on March 25, 2015 at 1:09 PM, updated March 25, 2015 at 2:03 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Lost amid the foodie hype is the fact that ethnic cuisine remains underrepresented in the downtown scene. Is it because so many Clevelanders grew up eating this food that we see it as home cooking? Or is nouveau Old World too foreign a concept? There's nothing that foreign about Santorini Greek Taverna, which opened Tuesday on West Ninth Street, in the old Burger 9 location -- 1382 West Ninth St., Cleveland; 216-205-4675; santorinitaverna.com. The bar-eatery serves Greek food, one of the more familiar of our ethnic cuisines. Yet downtown hasn't had this kind of a place in years, since the very popular Greek Isles closed down (in the spot that now houses XO). http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2015/03/santorini_opens_in_cleveland_w.html

Yes, Cleveland really does rock There is no stopping the tide. Cleveland’s once gritty industrial landscape lost its manufacturing base years ago, and people left town. Today, they’re moving back home. Generation Y and millennials are charging up their own economic engine. High-tech jobs, world-class health facilities, and a revived cultural scene are giving this once Rust Belt city an exciting new look. There’s a newfound optimism and local pride, a can-do attitude. The city will host the Republican National Convention next year, and they’re still celebrating the return of basketball superstar LeBron James. (His “Second Coming” homecoming banner is back up on the side of the Cavaliers’ stadium). But it’s more than LeBron and the GOP. Clevelanders are rejoicing in their own homecoming. They see their city as a vibrant, future-forward metropolis making the most of its new found stature. http://www.bostonglobe.com/lifestyle/travel/2015/03/21/cleveland-rocks-city-makes-comeback/vjYMflq7YdCoffMNJraG3H/story.html

Can additional stories of parking be added to the structure? I'd presume so. I'm curious if more stories would be tacked on before the residential component. Also, I'm curious if it is somehow tied to having some portion ready in time for the RNC.
