Cleveland: East Side Neighborhood Development
Wow...exciting stuff Brandon is doing. Cleveland is so lucky to have a guy with all his talents and passions. On February 23rd, Chrostowski will host NEXT, a six-course dinner fundraiser to build student housing. Chrostowski is working with the Cleveland Land Bank to buy an abandoned two-building parcel on Buckeye. “The whole idea behind Next is to take things to the next level for Edwins students,” he says. “I had a vision to build dorms near the school. I thought it would be a bit later, but the needs of the students – some of them are in shelters, some of them are homeless – made it happen sooner.” “This is one example of the community coming together, and Buckeye is a neighborhood I believe in,” Chrostowski says. “We’re talking about someone without a home who is struggling. We have to change that. It’s a very real problem and we have the power to change it.”

CROSS-POSTED: developer forsakes chicago for the 216, snaps up vintage space in campus district erin o'brien | Monday, January 26, 2015 Twenty-year development veteran Chris Matan is buying into Cleveland in more ways than one. Not only did he leave the Windy City -- his hometown -- to marry wife Ivana three and a half years ago, he closed just last month on a 25,000-square-foot building at 2104 Superior Avenue. "When I first moved here, I'd drive around the area and it shocked me -- the product that was here, the warehouse buildings so close to downtown. Nothing was happening," he says. "I kind of saw the future in some of these buildings." http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/devnews/campusdistrictdev012615.aspx

Win, win, win on many levels Big Data pioneer Explorys plans to expand in University Circle By Robert L. Smith, The Plain Dealer Email the author | Follow on Twitter on January 26, 2015 at 7:00 AM, updated January 26, 2015 at 8:49 AM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Explorys, a Cleveland startup at the leading edge of data analytics in the healthcare industry, plans to add 80 people to its University Circle headquarters to meet growing demand for its discoveries. Company executives said the jobs will push the workforce past 200 and likely require the expansion of its offices in a space once occupied by MOCA, the Museum of Contemporary Art. "We still think there's headroom to continue to grow, upwards of 300 people," Lougheed said. "We're taking it a year at a time." Space is tight at Explorys. Workstations and white boards are crowded on hardwood floors that once supported warehouse operations for Sears. But there's room to grow. McHale, the chief executive officer, said the company has leasing rights to an additional 25,000 square feet on the same floor. "We'll be knocking out these walls," he said, standing in the high-ceilinged lobby on a recent morning. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2015/01/big_data_pioneer_explorys_plan.html

Cleveland: Downtown: Millennia's Garfield Bldg & HQ Developments
Interesting: A handful of restaurateurs have inquired about the building, said Rico Pietro of Cushman & Wakefield/Cresco Real Estate, the Independence-based brokerage marketing the retail space. More notably, he added, Cresco is fielding calls from national clothing retailers - chains that wouldn't have looked twice at downtown a few years ago.

DISCLAIMER: I have no idea what I just posted... :) Life Inside a nuCLEus Architectural Rendering Posted By Eric Sandy on Mon, Jan 12, 2015 at 2:17 PM The snow is falling. I try to kid myself into believing something will be different when I wake up each morning – perhaps just a cold rain? – but the snow never stops. It's been years since we last saw the sun. Before I return to the mines for the day, nuCLEus Bot 2021 has ordered me to retrieve a satchel of goods from across the river. There was a time when I might have argued, but the bots' heat-seeking laser vision is unbearable when discharged. We know all too well the fury of our nuCLEus masters. Even frozen skin feels pain if it's sharp enough, I guess. I've pretty much acclimated myself to the routine by now. Upon leaving our cell blocks, Class 2020 nuCLEus Bots will strip and flay our bodies, further instilling the Tower's rigorous political dynamics. We will be ushered to the ground floor, where the Shift Supervisor will inspect our data chips and update our internal tracking algorithms. A temporary Shadow Bot will be assigned to accompany us on our excursion outside the nuCLEus. If all goes well, we'll make it back to the Tower with only mild delirium and but a few broken bones. http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2015/01/12/life-inside-the-nucleus-architectural-rendering

I think they should have done a little research and saw that Cleveland has historically been a sports town. Filming during the Ohio State National Championship game is an interesting choice. Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Most interesting quote of the article. I wonder what familiar (and unfamiliar) names are looking at this high-profile property. Wes Finch, the developer of the nearby Innova apartment project (formerly known as Upper Chester), said he's debating whether or not to pursue the police-station and library sites. "There's word on the street that half the known universe is going to go after this thing," said Finch, whose Florida-based company also owns the nearby Park Lane Villa apartments.

Cleveland needs to get tough with Shaker Square-area apartment building owner: Mark Naymik By Mark Naymik, Northeast Ohio Media Group Email the author | Follow on Twitter on December 16, 2014 at 3:19 PM, updated December 16, 2014 at 3:21 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Residents living near Cleveland's Shaker Square need a break. And the city can give them one this week by cracking down on the company that owns two buildings that have been source of trouble for years. At a Wednesday hearing of the city's Board of Building Standards and Building Appeals, Shakertown Apartments LTD is expected to ask for more time to deal with problems at the company's condemned property on Drexmore Avenue and its apartment building on South Moreland Boulevard. Daniel Inks, one of the people behind Shakertown, is fighting the condemnation of the Drexmore building. He claims he is selling the property and the new owner will assume all of its problems. He is also asking for more time to correct the violations on the South Moreland property, according to records. The board needs to deny his appeals. Here is why. http://www.cleveland.com/naymik/index.ssf/2014/12/cleveland_needs_to_get_tough_w.html
