  1. More Rocky River :) We went here today… feels like a complete hidden gem. Really cool. Bradstreet’s Landing Park pier in Rocky River finally ready to re-open Updated: Jun. 16, 2023, 5:24 p.m.| Published: Jun. 16, 2023, 5:09 p.m. By Peter Krouse, cleveland.com ROCKY RIVER, Ohio - The Bradstreet’s Landing Park pier, which was closed in 2017 for safety concerns, will finally re-open Saturday, according to an email from the city to its residents. The pier was closed as a result of deteriorating concrete and other infrastructure issues. The city announced in 2019 that work on a $3.4 million plan to reconstruct the pier and make other improvements to the popular lakefront park would begin the following spring. The improvements were to include an enhanced beach, a pedestrian bridge over Spencer Creek, a cabin or pavilion for parties and events, a revetment with steps for seating in a miniature version of Lakewood’s Solstice Steps, and more. But so far only the pier has been completed. https://www.cleveland.com/news/2023/06/bradstreets-landing-park-pier-in-rocky-river-finally-ready-to-re-open.html

  8. Say this on FB Cleveland is getting a new brewery. Well, kinda. Holland, Ohio (near Toledo) based brewery Black Frog Brewery announced on their social media that they will be coming to the area, opening a second location in the new Midtown Collaboration Center at E 66th and Euclid, which broke ground yesterday. Located in the historic Hough neighborhood, The Cleveland Foundation bills it as “a place where partnership and innovation center around place and community” come together. Black Frog is a black owned brewery, owned by Christipher Harris. The project will feature other black owned businesses including food vendors and a music venue, and will also feature “key partners to co-locate innovative aspects of their research and programming in the first building. Partners include: Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), University Hospitals (UH), the Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA), Hyland Software, and ECDI (the country’s largest SBA micro lender).” It’ll take some time for the brewery to get opened though. The building isn’t expected to be ready until late 2024. Once opened it’ll be the fourth brewery with an original location NOT based in Cleveland to open a satellite taproom here, joining Southern Tier Brewing Co. - Cleveland, BrewDog Cleveland, and North High Brewing - Ohio City. 9. Speaking of CWRU (again mostly having a conversation with myself), the school has added like 200-300 students a year for the past 10+ years. How again does the census count college students in their numbers? Just for undergrad enrollment: 2004-2005: 3,514 2022-2023: 6,017 Something like 80%-90% of undergrads live on campus.

Op-Ed: Afghan neighbors in Cleveland and across U.S. need Congress to enact a path to citizenship BY AHMAD FARID ARIA & PATRICK KEARNS ●SOCIAL EQUITY ● MAY 4, 2023 When I brought my family from Afghanistan to the United States in 2019, my son – who was 8 at the time – was confused. In Kabul, where I worked as a civil engineer after a few years helping NATO allies and the Afghan government, we had a beautiful home. We left most of what we owned behind, along with all our friends and extended family. My boy didn’t understand why. https://thelandcle.org/stories/op-ed-afghan-neighbors-in-cleveland-and-across-u-s-need-congress-to-enact-a-path-to-citizenship/
