According to the cited article, the incident occurred around February 3 or 4 and both vessels are back in port. The British sub was towed to Scotland and the French sub returned home under its own power. Reading your post, one might have concluded that this was a crisis of the moment, with 250 sailors still trapped on submerged, wrecked submarines, a la Kursk. my apologies. i couldnt really gather from the story if both subs had been retrieved and all the soldiers were ok. that and the story has broke 12 days after the fact.

This room looks strikingly similar to the ballroom at Myers University on Euclid.

lol! My first and only(so far) trip to Chicago over Labor Day weekend. I have to say I enjoyed all the spoils Chicago has to offer. What a beautiful, fun city. Also went on the riverboat architectural tour. (highly recommend) Oh, she's an Ohio U. alum.

A night out in Chicago. What!?
  7. I agree with you X. I'm calling bullshit. The asbestos DOES have to be removed before demo can take place. So essentially the building would then be gutted and ready for a rehab, but in this case ready for demo.
  8. Thanks for all the info McCleve. I'm am kinda hoping that their MM building helps finish off the Burnham plan with a similar looking structure to the surrounding ones. I'm also wondering, being that the hideous county buildings would be wiped out with this project that it would fast track plans for a new county office tower. Maybe on public square?
  9. sorry, i thought that may offend some here. After pesht and FEB among other projects, i was wondering if this got thrown to the wayside. A project like that would do amazing things for downtown. I assume in today's climate it would be much easier to finance dormitories than apt or condo buildings. just hoping this hasnt been abandoned.

An old warehouse to condo conversion in downtown Erie currently under construction.

This is what 50 million gets you in Erie for a new convention center and hotel. Opened in 2007.
  12. Is there any interest at CSU in starting Varsity Village any time soon? Are they waiting for the new parking deck to be finished in order to do anything over there? Is that project still on the table or is it another cleveland pipe dream?

the horror that has become the lakewood-downtown commute is real. bottomline, if it snows leave an hour and a half-two hours early. to get downtown. it seriously is that bad. when it snows. im puzzled why they had to close two lanes on the shoreway this time of year, i dont even know what theyre doing. most of the time lately i dont even see any work going on.
  16. if this is going to be a toll road then please drop the opportunity from the name. You might as well just put one toll station at the beginning and one at the end at UC. I dont believe anyone is going to pay money to enter those neighborhoods as is. worst idea of the year so far. hands down.
  17. Thanks strap! were just a small piece of the puzzle, if it wasnt for the guy who had the vision before just about anybody to invest in detroit-shoreway by building those townhomes across the street, we wouldve never bought that building. i give my praises to him. but thank you, i really do appreciate the compliment.
  18. I wouldve loved to utilize your "friend". The tennant definitely has the upper hand, in the legal sense. If i wouldve known then i wouldve contacted you. It was hell, we were lucky to get a good magistrate or it couldve been alot worse. I'm from a big family. Thats what "out of the country" family members are for! Remember the guy that wanted to smoke a blunt on my stoop? He won't sit on anyone elses! lol. i like the way you operate. i believe its much more efficient in so much as it gives much needed relief to our overworked housing court. ;)

  20. Thanks, its a long way to go though hopefully this year i'll be able to make a good dent. I'd have no problem stopping over to look at your building and maybe i could help you avoid some of the things we ran into. I do plaster, though it is one of my least favorite things to do. My brother is a pro at it, so if ive got something major i'll call him up. Yeah, I dont cover with drywall. I find it much more cost effective to patch and repair. When we first took ownership of our building we ran into a situation that looks much like yours.(nice pics lol)He refused to pay us, was dealin drugs and runnin prostitutes in and out and we couldnt do anything but wait for the courts. He lived there 5 months from the point where we took ownership. I came soo close many times to draggin him outta there an tossin him off the balcony. That and it was next to impossible to find anyone decent to move in there while he was still there.
  21. Some pics i took today while in the neighborhood.
  22. Thanks, its been a pain in the ass at times, though its very satisfying once i finish a unit, seeing the progress. Heres a pic of the front entrance i rebuilt last fall. I built the sidelights myself and got the door on craigslist for 100.00. I took pics of what it looked like before but dont know what the hell i did with them. It was quite unsightly. I dont know why my pics come out so huge on here.
  23. Heres some pics of the exterior of my building and a couple inside pics of basically what all the units used to look like. Go easy on me, its a work in progress.
  24. A 10 million dollar bid went out january 29th for Cuyahoga Community College Center for Innovation in the Arts. Anyone know anything about this project? http://plansscope.construction.com/Cuyahoga_Comm_College_Ctr_for_Innovation_in_the_Arts-DR_2_200000642648.aspx
  25. According to this site theres quite a bit of work on the books around town. Does anyone know any other place to get this info without having a membership? http://www.bidclerk.com/projects/results.jsp?query=&sortField=null&perPage=10&start=0
