I've been debating about finally subscribing to Crain's. They just convinced me to pull the trigger.

Low participation. The story of America. Everyone is too lazy to manage anything today. On my neighborhood Facebook page, people have openly flaunted the recycling program and put mixed waste in the blue cans. What are they achieving with this?

A common argument in the USA, where everyone expects cheap gas to last forever. And if it doesn't, it's our kids' problem. Some of these things need to be choices in investment, not what is convenient today.

If there is anything the Ohio economy generates is the need for people to shuffle orange barrels and cones! ?

How does it differ if your wife has to drive you across town to the airport, or the train station? Either way you'd be spending way less time boarding a more environmentally sound mode of transport, that is more reliable and on-time, and rarely affected by weather.

I was thinking if Cleveland is having such trouble with contaminated waste, why not must make it aluminum, glass and plastic bottles and cans. I do wish Ohio would institute a beverage deposit system, which would automatically take care of this.

IMO the next crisis will come this fall in the form of a commercial real estate implosion. No retailers or restaurants are paying their rents now. If there are any bundled securities, this is where it will start....

The location at W110th/Clifton has not been Constantino's for several years. It is now officially a run down "Mini Mart" complete with a drain that backs up in the parking lot every time it rains.

From the outside it looks like the building would be really chopped up funny and hard to re-purpose. Would be fun to get on the inside and see what it looks like!

Employment could pick back up, but word on the street is ZERO retail or restaurant tenants are paying their rent currently. The next financial crisis is going to come in the form of bundled securities in the commercial sector.

I'm not an attorney but I feel like your chance to remedy this (at least in Ohio) was with the inspection. That was the time to go back, to the seller and say "hey--I think there are problems in the basement and I'd like you to remedy that by lowering the sales price or fixing prior to transfer". I'm assuming your home is 100 years old or so in that area. This is fairly common with our clay soil here. Make sure that the gutters are draining properly--I've owned a couple houses in the area that once I fixed the downspouts and got them draining properly, the basement dried right up (and then I painted the walls!). I wonder if a stronger Congressional rep could have held United to the fire on the lease in lieu of receiving bailout funds. Of course it would also take strong city leadership to be ahead of that and offer United a deal to get out during this economic downturn.
