Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Yeah I'm still waiting for the increase in services from when Mayor Jackson pushed for the 1/2% tax increase. So far I've seen a street sweeper 2x in my neighborhood.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Accidents happen. Review and training should be conducted, but this utterly ridiculous. Trains have operated through there for the past 100 years. If two drivers totaled their buses at the same intersection, would they have to wait for verbal authorization?

I think we're kind of saying the same thing....

Yes but at least there's still the Metrohealth and Hingetown ones (not sure when they are due to wrap up however...)

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Unless it was built next to an already existing arena district, I can't think of many NFL stadiums that generate these kind of "districts". Most NFL fans prefer the tailgate culture, then go into the game. Off the top of my head maybe Minneapolis and Foxboro have some surrounding developments, but the weather in these markets tends to be the worst in the NFL so fans might want to go indoors.

From your post to God's ears. Hopefully we can quote this in a good way a year from now! ?

NBA: General News & Discussion
Yes it's a killer. The body and inner ear specifically can fool you into thinking you're flying straight and level and in reality you're diving or climbing. Even in the basic private pilot training I've received, it is drilled into you that if you ever fly into IMC you have to trust your instruments and not your brain. Part of early training is "unusual attitudes recovery", where you put on foggles and the instructor takes control, does some aggressive maneuvers, then gives control back to the student. Your task is to recover only using the instruments without any outside visual reference.

I watched the NTSB briefing today. They said the aircraft was in a left descending bank at 2000'/minute. So the pilot flew it into the hillside (and the crash scene video bears evidence to this as well). Sounds like spatial disorientation to me.

This, combined with the fact that 80% of the crowd is looking at their phone and not watching play on the field....

Cleveland: Downtown: The Lumen
I haven't been able to get a good shot of it with an Iphone, but I love the way she looks at night now with all the fluorescent construction lights on every floor, and the crane with flashing airplane beacons on top. Looks amazing from a distance! Maybe someone with a pro setup can get a good shot of this?

I used to fly quite a bit of American...before the merger. When US Airways took over their inept management was put in place, and AA has never been the same. But alas, that's a topic for the Airline Industry forum. If they did expand in Cleveland, I would have to give serious thought to changing depending on their direct destinations. At present, United still offers way more than any other airline out of CLE.

Cleveland City Council
Agreed on this--hopefully council will hear some of the arguments from constituents after this BS Tony George initiative passes. It's a shame everyone in Cleveland proper can't get something on the ballot in Westlake to screw with him.

Nice tribute to Kobe at the Pelicans/Cavs last night at RMF. It began outside the arena for those fans walking in on the Huron side.

All 30 teams are adding this in their parks.

Also on the drilling topic--I've seen a crew working over on the South Marginal, all the way out by E 40th. Not sure what that would be.

I continue to remain loyal because: 1. I have over 700K lifetime flight miles headed for 1M 2. Status upgrades, elite benefits etc 3. My wife and I just went roundtrip to Europe in business on miles. 4. If I switched to American I would have to make similar connections, all with an airline that is US Airways and no longer American (a.k.a. THE worst) 5. I would move to Delta in a heartbeat if they actually moved into the market and started serving destinations other than Atlanta, Detroit, etc. A direct CLE-LAX on Delta would give me serious pause.

It's called "scud-running." Trying to fly under the cloud layer. Service ceiling on this variant of Sikorsky is 13,800 ft. I did read that this helicopter variant is not IFR certified with only one pilot. But that would be a ridiculous thing for the single pilot to consider when his passenger's lives are on the line.

What's the odds it will be a wholly-unqualified family member?

NBA: General News & Discussion
Most likely he flew into IMC and became disoriented. He may have been trying to set up to file an IFR flight plan, messing with maps, or any host of other cockpit workload issues that led to disaster. One thing that bothers me (as a fixed-wing aircraft pilot) is in a helicopter, you can push a button and "hover", which is a luxury no fixed wing pilot gets when flying in these conditions. A fixed wing pilot is taught to make a timed 180 degree turn to leave the instrument conditions, which brings a host of terrain issues in these kinds of areas. A rotary pilot could in theory stop, get their head together, and execute a 180 degree turn on a dime, and head back the opposite direction. Pilots all this "get-there-itis," and it takes the lives of more people than you think.

Here is the ATC recording. Seems to be the pilot inadvertently flew into IMC. He probably flew it straight into the hillside.

I don't believe Kobe is a pilot.
