Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Vancouver had 40% of Hong Kong residents emigrate there. Seattle had Amazon happen. Cleveland needs something on this level to witness the transformation you're suggesting.

It's a shame we cant get a fully built and restored model moved there. Would be an excellent addition to the Science museum~! This little statue hardly does the real machine any justice!

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I'm inclined to think that people in the outer suburbs don't care or think about RTA, except for the handful of commuters that use the park-n-ride services. Many would probably prefer that there were NO service in their area, since clearly public transportation brings the "bad element" to their community. Unfortunately at the ballot boxes, if these same people see something with RTA next to it, they are going to vote no instantly--whether it be anti big-government taxes or subtle anti-urban racism....

Not to derail this thread further, but the city also needs to step up its code-enforcement game. That crapbox next to you might get better if the city actually enforced housing codes and forced the owner to comply. Mayor Jackson promised increased services with his tax hike last year. So far the only thing I've seen is a street sweeper come through (something that should have already been budgeted for).

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Based on these descriptions, I'm not sure the drivers know what it is...because they kept speeding up until the beeping sounded then the brakes slammed on. It was throwing everyone out of their seats!

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I rode the Red Line to Little Italy yesterday for the final day of the Feast. The ride was made longer by the constant stops by the driver--there would be a beeping sound from the driver cabin, followed by hard braking, to either a near or complete stop. It seemed completely at random, with no pattern at all. At times it felt like the driver was "pedaling the train". Has anyone else noticed this? I wonder if it's not some overly-sensitive safety feature?

Yeah, but when your NAME is on the park, that adds weight to it. "Terdolph is telling us to get out of his park man!" ?

Let's start with the COO for the City of Cleveland is a former meter reader. I'm not against opportunities for anyone working their way up from the bottom, but this position in particular illustrates the cronyism that is rampant in city ranks. http://www.city.cleveland.oh.us/CityofCleveland/Home/Government/Cabinet/DBrown

These I remember. I guess my father lived in one of the buildings around 55th/Euclid in the 60's as a college student.

Would anyone go on record so you can write about it?

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
Because of this council borderline I would echo what the poster above said about maintaining contact with the CDC safety/crime person, whether that be in Detroit Shoreway or Ohio City. Also, you're an attorney right? Make sure to keep meticulous logs of what happened, when, and the result of any action. This can be crucial in taking any action in the future whether it be against the tenants or landlord.

In some ways if the "R" word is true and stalling the project, I'm glad they didn't get further along. I'd hate to be stuck with "Stark's Erection" outside the arena for a decade or two! Likewise I'd rather not see any further surface lots created if it's not going to happen....

Glad to see the offense SHOT OUT OF BED after the last couple games against the Sox!

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
I drive by that lot daily and 99% of the time it's completely empty except for the nicest of summer days. In fact my dad and I used to put his boat in there--there is plenty of parking most days right at the top of the ramps without even using that overflow lot by the Shoreway. And in terms of the sewage plant, don't you know know Cleveland is a real life SIM City? We'll just pick that up and move it to the new Port of Cleveland located at the old Burke Lakefront Airport! ? All kidding aside though, nothing surprises me in this town. $400K condos next to a treatment plant? Sure! They come with a 15 year abatement!

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
Agree 100%. There is also some land that could be developed right up to the roadway (thinking along the south side near 49th, and the massive boat trailer parking near Edgewater Yacht club to start). If we really want to see high rises in the W 80's on former industrial sites, the area needs to be more conducive to access. So more pedestrian friendly, and with less freight trains rolling through.

The logo is awesome! Maybe someone could mock up one for the Cleveland River Flames? ?

Cleveland: Random Development and News
The West Shoreway project has definitely made an impact, but I would stop short of calling it "opening up the lakefront." It's still a "lite freeway" with a 35 mph speed limit that is mostly ignored. On weekends and busy nights at Edgewater the traffic backs up for miles getting in and out of there.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I don't think these "kids" (I'm sure a majority are actually young adults) would use a dirt bike track if we spent $10 million on it for them. They are out for the thrill and love the fact they can thumb their nose at authority and get away with it. It's not anything those of us in the suburbs wouldn't have done if we could have gotten away with it either. Unfortunately where I grew up, if I drove an ATV and pickup truck down the sidewalk the cops would have been there in 3 minutes and I would have gladly let the cops keep me over going home to face my father! This is all an issue of political will. And unfortunately it's going to take someone getting killed before Frank Jackson and the CPD do anything about it. Sadly I don't think a 72 year old man being beaten by them is enough to cause action here....

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
If the port would move to Burke, they would lose their rail access, no?
-
Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
They have to go home or run out of gas sometime. Maybe you can't catch them all at once, but you start picking them off 2-3 at a time just by following in slow speed pursuit along with a helicopter.

They are driving pickup trucks through people's lawns now. How can the police not respond to this?
