Cleveland: Retail News
Of any type of retail that should surprise, clothing to me is a no-brainer. Many people, especially women, like to try things on before they buy. You would think they would be hyper customer driven in this age of online retailers encroaching on their sales. And yet I find myself disappointed anytime I go shopping for an item of clothing. Try a test: when confronted by an associate with "May I help you?", point to an item on a mannequin. I've found that 8/10 times, the associate doesn't know where it is, or it is no longer available in the store. Wasn't this sort of product placement perfected in the early 20th century?

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
When comparing Buffalo to Cleveland, there is a vast size difference. Buffalo did not suffer nearly as much from white flight either. There is some sprawl, but it's fairly limited. You can go from downtown Buffalo to exurban countryside to the east and south in basically 10 minutes.

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
Maybe it's just because having a small downtown airport isn't necessarily a big incentive for businesses to relocate? No but it may be a great incentive for a giant tech firm to open a satellite HQ. Another opportunity missed.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Lumen
I could see this being different since it is Playhouse Square and not just some residential developer. They have deep connections with corporate Cleveland and a strong marketing team. The location may be enough to put corporate branding on the site.

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
Awww HELL NO! The city can't even maintain the parks it has, even with staffing levels set at previous higher population levels. If anyone wants to experiment with a park, I continue to maintain that there has to be some way to work with the FAA and city to install a greenway around the perimeter of Burke. Just a strip to facilitate bikes, walks and benches, and provide an east west access point between North Coast Harbor and Gordon Park. But I'd still want to be sure the Metroparks maintains it!

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
Meh...more Cleveland Scene SIM City fantasy. We're nearly 20 years from the Flats getting mowed down and we still haven't made it to Phase 3 of the East Bank development. If the city or some developer managed to make it through the FAA red tape to close Burke, it would take decades for any large-scale development to take hold. My fear is that it would end up like Buffalo's waterfront, with blah suburban-looking townhomes basically sitting there on an island by themselves (see: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Waterfront,+Buffalo,+NY/@42.8874386,-78.8880327,3a,75y,338.18h,92.52t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sAiOwdYPeLki4PQJGk8H_aA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!4m5!3m4!1s0x89d313b672e10933:0x6eccdfbfbfa5f64a!8m2!3d42.8867485!4d-78.8885072).

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
Hopefully it will distract some truck driver. And he’ll run it over. I'm ok with the sign. The Burger King can take a direct hit, however. Actually I'm not sure how it stays in business. The one time I went there anytime recently I waited over 15 minutes for my order and I was the only one in the drive through. Someone should knock it down and put up some mixed use buildings.

It looks like some whimsical Target Store sign. As if Target bought Big Fun and opened in a former Burger King....

Millennials
Illegally cramming a bunch of people into a house isn't anything new. Immigrants are often forced to do it. But people are choosing to pursue careers -- or as often just hanging out -- in expensive housing markets when they could instead live in the 98% of the United States that is dirt-cheap and probably do just fine with income. The challenge for places like Ohio is how to convince them to do so.

Cuyahoga County is approximately 11% of the state population we're only getting a little over 2% of this capital budget. Anyone have access to date on tax receipts by county sent to Columbus? We need new leadership.

Not that I think playing the lottery is ever a good idea, but your odds of winning are certainly higher the more tickets you buy. But going from one to 10 tickets purchased is statistically insignificant in terms of winning the jackpot. I'm not saying it's a good idea. The odds in both cases are incredibly low. But the fact is that it is statistically 10 times more likely that you'll win if you spend 10 times as much money (assuming you pick 10 unique combinations :P ). So low that its' deemed to be statistically insignificant. Kind of like getting struck by lighting in the spot you're standing on, versus standing on a box in the same spot, 1 foot higher.
