  1. If I were able I'd attend the meeting to oppose. Unfortunately have a trip leaving later this morning....
  2. First part is true--no construction yet at 925. As for the second sentence, the buildings next door are empty too (the subject of this thread)?
  3. I wonder if the victim's age of 21 has anything to do with it? Victim has now been named in the University Circle police shootings death: http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2018/01/man_fatally_shot_by_cleveland_1.html#incart_river_mobileshort_home Also, http://fox8.com/2018/01/15/bystanders-give-first-aid-to-man-shot-by-cleveland-police-after-attacking-officer/ The 9-1-1 dispatcher seems to be trying to suppress the story from the caller. I don't think the dispatcher would be acting that way if the caller never said it was a Cleveland police officer that shot the man. I have no opinion on the guilt of the officer or the victim, I am strictly focusing on the behavior of the dispatcher. Should be another huge lawsuit costing the City of Cleveland millions...for an officer working OFF DUTY, who should have been fired from the force years ago. When is the city going to take a stand against the union and make sure the force is clean and honorable once more?

It's no different...except that if I decide to cash out of XYZ stock for $500,000, I get my money when the transaction clears. Is this even possible in crytpo-world? I was told you have to cash out at less than $10,000 per transaction, sometimes even less???
  5. True--trees could not be a part of it. But I can't see how having a walkway around the airport would be a huge issue. At any other airport you can walk right up to the fence surrounding the facility. Plus, you can't see it really unless you're in the air, but there is a large buffer of additional landfill next to 3/4 of Runway 24R/6L.
  6. That's interesting to me. I wonder what the limitations are on this policy. I'm sure the officers don't complete authority to wear their uniform for just any outside job. I think it helps that they are in uniform. If he was plain clothed, it's going to make this case even messier.
  7. Cross posting from the Detroit thread....I've always thought the part of the Cleveland harbor fronting Burke Lakefront would be great from something like this. There is a shipping channel there that is rarely (if ever) used by large vessels. A greenway around Burke complete with some dockage would be a nice use of the space, plus aid in connecting the apartments and marinas east of Burke to the North Coast harbor area.
  8. It's the American way--just be lazy and throw it away and get a new one. My friend with an 800 year old cottage in the UK thinks we are all crazy.
  9. Then again, in a booming economy there are plenty of day jobs for would-be musicians. d
  10. Would be a long uphill climb to catch up with Nashville. Don't you guys still have Ultrasuede? John Curley's studio?
  11. Lots of government cutbacks there with both military and NASA. My cousin was recently laid off from Langley research after years on the job there.
  12. Not entirely true, though. For several decades before the Justice Center was built, the criminal courts (and police HQ) were on East 21s Street: https://www.urbanohio.com/forum/index.php/topic,9853.msg115520.html#msg115520 The difference between then and now was a transit system with much higher frequency via streetcars. I'm sure many here would support a move back out to 21st if transit access was improved with it.
  13. The new Justice Center needs to be VERY accessible to transit. Many people going there for proceedings rely on public transit (along with a few lawyers I know commuting from Shaker). The Public Square location is about as accessible as you can get, but so would the lots immediately to the west of it along the north side of Superior. In terms of the private/public suggestion I made above, I was thinking of the Geis County administration HQ. Whatever it is the county needs to think outside the box again so we don't end up with a brutalist governement box built by the lowest bidder.
  14. It could be hidden in back. This may be one of those great chances for a public/private partnership--a court tower with rental space included in the tower. In back of what? On the W3rd side or perhaps even on the next block to the west, with an integrated parking/Police HQ structure.
  15. It could be hidden in back. This may be one of those great chances for a public/private partnership--a court tower with rental space included in the tower.
  16. Maybe Frank Jackson can give it a try now that he's in his fourth term? Mayor Kapszukiewicz takes first TARTA commute to work http://www.toledoblade.com/local/2018/01/08/A-bus-ride-with-the-mayor.html
  17. Would look great on the Jacobs lot on Public Square

So just how do you maintain your shaggy BOARD?

Well of course--just a wee bit of hyperbole here. But seriously, Mandel would prefer that a gay couple not be able to make decisions affecting each other's health. There is something just a bit ironic there. Maybe he'll have a come to Jews-for-Jesus moment?

My brother is a happily-married gay man, but if Mandel had is way he would take that away from him in a second. Why should we care about his wife?
  21. At a certain point I think the frustration / opportunity cost becomes an indicator of how things will be moving forward and turns developers off. If you read Cleveland Scene, you'd think Cleveland is run by developers who constantly pay off politicians and get what they want at a drop of a hat; but one of the biggest gripes I consistently hear from developers has to do with the hoops needed to jump through in Cleveland. A friend of mine told me his office has an expression, "3 months in Columbus, 3 years in Cleveland." I've heard the same. And to me, this is just insane that a cash-strapped school district wouldn't entertain such an offer. There is acres of vacant land in this city to build schools on....
  22. What scares me is that these exchanges are taking credit cards to purchase crytpo. I can see lots of people ending up with piles of credit card debt in a gamble to get rich quick.
  23. Hmm, interesting point. Cleveland's violent crime rate is nearly identical to Hartford, Newark and Paterson. As Cleveland gentrifies, I wouldn't be surprised to see Garfield Heights, Warrensville, Brooklyn, and Euclid get worse. What impact on crime do you think the Amazon distribution centers will have on communities like Warrensville and Euclid, if any? Hopefully they can at least start paving their roads again, and maybe hire some extra cops?
  24. Same here. Bills fans love Browns fans as they share the same misery (since their 4 trips to the Super Bowl). Also Browns fans used to make the trek up there during the years in between the old and new Browns, just to take in an NFL game.
  25. What is the line of thinking on World War II slowing the growth of Cleveland? I thought the war helped the city with its industrial might away from the coasts? Or do you mean the white GI's running for the burbs after the war?
