  1. Oh the Trump infrastructure bill (should it ever manifest) will probably be mostly highway construction and private turnpikes. Truly sad for a guy who calls NYC home (thought doesn't use many roads when helicoptering in and out of Manhattan).
  2. The climate is also RIPE (with the growth of the Hingetown-Detroit Shoreway cooridor) to spend political capital to finally push through the re-routing of freight traffic off of this route that KJP has mentioned many times on this forum. Removing most of that traffic would help simplify construction, and the actual enjoyment of the area.
  3. ^^Columbus does have some 50,000 more government jobs than Cleveland. This is why many industries consider state capitols "recession proof" when compared to non-government centers.
  4. Tell us how this argument makes sense? The "perps" would still get dropped off there, just on the corner of the square rather than in the center. #FACEPALM I'm aware, bruv. But two stops, one on Superior near the 200 building, and one near W.3rd and Superior, would disperse crowds slightly better. These stops still exist and make the central stop quasi-unnecessary. I'm afraid I still don't understand. If all these violent people get dropped off on the next block, they'll be too lazy to walk to the square and engage in more violence?
  5. Very nice--will check it out this weekend!
  6. Cleveland has GOT to do something about all the 14 axle dump trucks traveling Huron from the flats or these repairs will be shot within another 10 years. If you spend any time around there you'll see literally hundreds traversing it daily (many of these truckers are very aggressive drivers as well....probably trying to maximize their loads they carry per day).
  7. So Trump should be pushing for easy and quick visas for low-skilled workers trying to cross the southern border. 99.5% of these people end up picking our fruit and maybe eventually washing dishes at restaurants. They aren't taking jobs from Trump-country folk, who would never do these jobs even if paid a decent wage.
  8. I'd go along with you, if our dear leader Donald Trump would stop taking full credit for anything good with the economy, while ignoring the layoffs. Who do you think he's going to blame if a huge market crash ala 2008 happens again?
  9. I agree. These spoiled brat kids need to understand that if they guide the Cleveland Browns to a Super Bowl championship, they will go down in history, rather than just a blip in the NY media's spotlight. Just ask Lebron James what it meant to win a championship here....
  10. Great old photos! To me this is more evidence to take the current Shoreway blvd down to two lanes of traffic, which would allow for a bike/breakdown lane along with slowing down traffic.

This article from the Dispatch from back in June seems to indicate that possibly the local politicos in Cleveland aren't playing nicely? “To put the (Ikea building) blue box up is not a problem,” Petersson said. Finding the right culture on the other hand, “it’s not always easy. But here (in Columbus), we’ve found a fantastic collaborative atmosphere." http://www.dispatch.com/news/20170606/with-columbus-store-ready-to-open-ikea-now-focused-on-cleveland

  13. What happens when you take out this kind of charity from the conservative donations?

That's a great sign...and probably not a bad way to raise a child. Poor kids there are probably just like the rich ones...their parents care enough to seek out a better situation without taking the easy way out (running to the burbs).

I'm guessing there will be a lot more Montessori and other private school situations popping up in places like Ohio City.

I loved this song as a kid so asked for the 45 for my birthday. My parents ended up with "Whip It" by Devo, which couldn't be more of an opposite song/genre, but certainly was a closer-fit to their white-middle class suburban musical tastes! ;D
  17. The crash ("correction") is coming. It's just a question of when, and how Trump will blame Obama for it....::)
  18. What an incredible city this could have been today, if not for Norm Krumholz. That he is honoroed with a street name shows the city still doesn't get it. What is the deal with Krumholz? Can someone give me the quick wiki on why we should hate him?
  19. Western NY actually takes more than it gives to the state treasury (something the suburban Buffalo Trump crowd never wants to admit).
  20. Elmwood is even better in person. And it's pretty self-sufficient during a Buffalo snow blitz since you can get basic needs within a short walk (or climb-over). Only Detroit Avenue in Lakewood is similar, but of course that's not Cleveland. I'd say that's a good comparison--Elmwood is similar to Detroit in Lakewood, and Hertel is similar to Madison. BTW--Buffalo gets a bad rap when it comes to snow thanks to their suburban Orchard Park football stadium, which is the start of their "snow belt". During that white-out game last week vs Indy, it wasn't snowing in the city of Buffalo at all. It would be the equivalent of moving the Browns to Chardon, which may not be a bad idea.... ::)
  21. Certainly a fair point, they want South Buffalo on steroids, which is currently only available via Ohio City and Tremont - hopefully D-S and maybe even Midtown will join in the coming years. South Buffalo? It's not horrible, but certainly not a "hot" neighborhood. I think you're thinking of North Buffalo. The Elmwood Villiage and Hertel Ave neighborhoods are on fire. Elmwood runs about 3 miles north of Downtown with non-stop storefronts filled with shopping, bars and restaurants. Many of it is mixed use. Hertel continues to grow as people are priced out of the Elmwood Villiage. I just used Google streetview to run the length of Elmwood in Buffalo and down to Allen St in the Allentown neighborhood of Buffalo. It's shocking how much good and beautiful building stock they have and how much continuous retail is on Elmwood and Allen St. Frankly, it blows away any retail streets or retail areas in Cleveland. I think Elmwood is probably even better than High St. in Columbus because of the amount of original building stock. I'm really surprised at how much Buffalo has. Do the same on Delaware Avenue from downtown north to Forest Lawn cemetary. Buffalo still has most of their "millionare's row" intact.
  22. Looks amazing. Detroit could be the first major metro where we get a glimpse of severe economic calamity happening in the suburbs as more and more population and businesses move back into Detroit. I'd hate to the be the City of Auburn Hills budget director right now with the Palace shutting down, and the Silver Dome just imploded (well almost)!

  24. The Trump administration continues to look out for the little guy.... https://www.flyertalk.com/articles/airlines-no-longer-required-to-disclose-baggage-fees.html?utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=
  25. Not 100% true. From a design standpoint there is also a missing center median wall as well as multi-purpose trails right next to the roadway in a couple spots. So the lower speed limit is definitely needed--even if it doesn't feel right. IMO they should extend the rush-hour bus/bike lane from Lake Rd to W 28th to help calm things just a bit.
