  1. Not at all surprising. Detroit has a few more of the positives on Amazon's list, and the market is much larger.
  2. Hurry up before the Trump market correction crash! :-o
  3. I think we all know the answer is much more complex than can be detailed in this post. You'd have to asses those companies' corporate culture, combined with years of racial politics, school segregation, white flight, etc etc. Thankfully Amazon is a much more progressive culture and they WANT to be in the middle of the city with its transit and amenities, not on some new freeway exit clogged with traffic.
  4. Yes, the mayor did, illegally. But that's like comparing Akron-Canton to JFK. Meigs Field was a tiny airport that served turboprops. BKL is a far more capable airport that REGULARLY handles 757s. Meigs was too inadequate to be a reliever to ORD or MDW, like BKL is for CLE. So to further derail this thread with discussions as it pertains to Amazon, unless Mayor "Action" Jackson is willing to drop the dirt track and secretly mow down Burke in the middle of the night, this site for Amazon is a non-starter. To legally close Burke via FAA channels would take DECADES, especially as a Class D airspace. Amazon moves at the speed of light compared to the Feds.
  5. Do you know how long it would take the city to convince the FAA to shut down Burke? Long enough that Amazon will have built 40 buildings in Detroit by the time it clears all the committees. This is an idea that should be shelved in replace with an Amazon campus in the CBD using Burke as an additional tool for Amazon's business, not a landfill to build on.
  6. Someone went to bed early! :-D :-D Thankfully Encarncion could recover from this, and if not, the team is plenty deep with guys willing to step up!
  7. Everyone is looking for someone else to pay. That's the Cleveland way, and the Ohio way. Isn't that the "Everywhere in the USA way?" I get the sense that transit is not funded fully in any state in our nation, especially when compared to Canada, Europe, Australia, etc.
  8. ^^lol that is awesome. Get a bigger stadium Dean!
  9. With limited direct service to the west coast and Europe, Amazon may want to use Burke for charters. Which in my mind, means offer up the best of both worlds. There are quite a few acres available between the Muni lots and the Burke lots, not to mention land surrounding the field.
  10. There are many companies like his out there. This is why I continue to stress that the City of Cleveland does NOTHING to promote Burke Lakefront as an economic engine. They could be offering up the old highschool, space along the marginal or in the huge parking lots out front to build a corporate HQ and attract aviation-related businesses.
  11. Mayor Hicks-Hudson now wants Lake Erie declared impaired Green water in lake, Maumee River has prompted health advisories http://www.toledoblade.com/local/2017/09/26/ayor-Paula-Hicks-Hudson.html

I've spent the last 20 years trying to un-hear this song. Thanks. :whip: :drunk:
  13. Agreed. If you've made it to this level and still haven't learned how to catch the ball consistently--there's something wrong. What's the latest on J Gordon?
  14. I'm sure for those owners the new stadium can't come fast enough. Still I give it 5 years before the Chargers are back in the whale's vajayjay.
  15. I'd agree with all this except baggage claim and rental cars. The later you land at CLE the more skeleton the crews. I've taken 40 minute flights from ORD that I have to wait 50 minutes for my luggage. The rental car situation is just unusual for a market/facility this size. I would expect a bus ride at JFK, DEN or other huge domestic/intl hub. Not in Cleveland. The other thing I hate about CLE is the tiny cramped restrooms on all concourses--this should have been addressed in renovations but they left them intact, apparently to save space for empty gates.
  16. Agree 1000%. I'll never understand why they didn't take the two bottom floors of the short term parking and lease to rental cars, then build a brand new long term ramp where the old one used to stand. Gotta have acres of surface lots!

Depends on when you're driving the 5. Overnight, sure it may be quicker to drive. During the day, probably not. And you can't check email, have a lunch meeting, etc while driving your car.
  18. Still mad at Cleveland Scene and Sam Allard for their public outcry re: the extra 221 seconds I spent on the bus everyday. Last time I checked there are ZERO barriers on the south side at Ontario. One truck could hop the curb and wreak havoc, but Frank Jackson seems none too concerned about that. It's all about proving a point after trying to keep transit out of the square.
  19. Isn't that group of colorful townhouses to the north of the proposed school site actually taking advantage of the lake ciew and consequent valuable acreage? Not above floor 3 of a high-rise condo/apt tower. Plus there are open views to the NE.
  20. CMSD will vote the abatement down, but then build a school on arguably some of the more valuable lake-view property outside of downtown at 45/Detroit. We have anything but visionary leadership in this city.
  21. If only the Amazon thing had the "swing state" component. That certainly helped CLE in the RNC bid.
  22. I wonder how Action Jackson will spin the transit access part after trying to keep buses out of our central transit hub?
  23. Interesting that Milwaukee, while about as rust-belt as the rest of us, has managed to maintain a shred of stability. Anyone have reasons or theories?

The words of someone who has never driven a Model S. Truly a work of art and engineering brilliance!
