  1. If they don't care, they should. Foreign tourism is very profitable for a city. A wise old man whose name I forget (maybe George Condon) said Cleveland will never give up CLE willingly to a regional authority. The airport pays the city more than it costs and is a large patronage job pool. That patronage job pool could come back to haunt them--like the snowplow driver that lead a team of plows onto an active runway last year. No one was hurt this time, thankfully, but IMO these kinds of jobs are not where you place someone who knows a politician--you hire the best possible candidate.
  2. What aircraft was Delta operating on that PIT-CDG route? I know from my experience going back and forth to Europe many times a year from CLE, back when we had the CLE-LGW route I often skipped it because the connections to the rest of Europe weren't that great, and they were flying 2 class 757's with regular domestic first class seats (no lie-flat pod). For me it works out better to take a quick hop to ORD or EWR and get a lie-flat seat for the overnight to the UK or elsewhere.
  3. Speaking of which--did anyone see the Air France A340 landing at Hopkins the other night? I saw it on approach over Edgewater. Must have been either a medical emergency, or a charter from some Saudi family. Edit: I checked on Flight Aware--looks like it was diverted from Detroit. Probably weather with a fuel stop in the CLE. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/AFR378/history/20170622/1424Z/LFPG/KCLE
  4. If you ever get a chance--visit their office. Part of it is actually built on the roof of the building at 25th/Lorain, and has amazing indoor and outdoor views of the entire city. I'd almost recommend making an appointment with one of their financial planners (which is how I ended up there).
  5. My dad used to work for AT&T (sometimes in that building) and he said it is jammed full of the central exchanges and switches for Cleveland (as you might imagine). I'm guessing the top two floors will be retained by them for their cell network access.
  6. Good day to stop in port! Strong winds out of the west have the lake kicked up today to 5 footers!
  7. No question about it. Maybe time for a light rail line out the middle of the Shoreway and Clifton.
  8. Did I see somewhere that RTA officially added the 73rd/Edgewater stop for the summer?
  9. Time for a thread revival! Love this article Steve Earle: Bad Country Music Just 'Hip-Hop for People Who are Afraid of Black People' http://www.nashvillescene.com/music/nashville-cream/article/20864796/steve-earle-bad-country-music-just-hiphop-for-people-who-are-afraid-of-black-people
  10. I couldn't find an appropriate thread for the Hope Memorial Bridge. Call me oldschool. So I put this here for now--mods please move if necessary. I'd say our offense is explosive, in the same way a 66 Camaro can run a straight 1/4 mile in record time. But not quite dynamic, like a Ferrari that's fast and can handle the curves. Friday aside, iso-ball seems to have played right into GS's hands. Since the Camaro didn't debut until 1967, I have concerns with your race analogy.... 8-)

Meh...let's see him go to a losing team, put together a roster around him and get to the finals. He is a sell out (though I concede an amazing player). Will be an interesting off season for the Cavs to add to theirs and make a run at them again.

Gilbert would be crazy to not give Lebron a large piece of the team. He's a god in Cleveland and a greart basketball mind. He could extend his legacy here way past his playing years. Make movies in LA. Make basketball teams in Cleveland.
  14. Looks like these plans call for narrowing Detroit there...a much needed improvement.
  15. There is a TOD meeting for West Blvd Red Line station coming up on June 20. I'm not holding my breath, but at least someone is considering a future that could lead to new residential and retail through that strip.
  16. ^^ as suspected! I'd still like to see that plan pursued. Rereading that thread it makes even more sense now with the hundreds of millions in housing investments going in along those tracks.

The Cavs will take game 4 tonight. They'll do it at home just to take the Warriors of the short list of teams who have swept the playoffs and finals. I don't see 2016 happening again with the comeback, but I do have a wish in the back of my head that the Cavs have been holding back and trolling GS fans, and will destroy them the next 4 games. One can dream.
  18. How much would it cost to reroute all those freight trains south around downtown. KJP may have an answer... :)
  19. If they get Phase III going and make it into a neighborhood instead of a restaurant destination, you'll see those vacancies go down.
  20. To me that's just crazy. Here you have a community that was founded on the basis of those trains, and you're going to worry about commuters heading for suburbs further east? The City of Cleveland should at least push to modernize Shaker Square. The convenience of the rapid is the best way to make that area marketable to the droves of younger people moving into Ohio City and Detroit Shoreway.
  21. Regarding the traffic lights, isn't there a system that would prioritize the train passage? Much like the ones that allow emergency vehicles to take over lights when passing through an intersection?

I think the liberals David is referring to were based in, and still are to some degree, in Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights, etc. Some may have moved out, but they certainly aren't RUNNING AWAY to Avon Lake.
  23. What about the IX center? I think a third of it is used by Ford for storage? Kick them out and they can take their stored items to Brookpark.
  24. There have also been quite a few ride share apps for taxis, but I've never known Cleveland taxi companies to use them. This is just another example of a business not adapting to the times. They could have survived, with an app for cashless transactions (and perhaps cleaning the cars once in a while).
  25. I could have dealt with Cleveland taxi drivers if they ever cleaned the cars, and if they ever used the meter--most of them I would get in the car and they'd immediately try to push some flat rate and fight using the meter. At least with a ride share app you can get a fare estimate, they warn you when there is a surge, and you can leave negative feedback for dirty cars (which I've seen quite a few in Cleveland).
