  1. ^The entirety of the city-data forum. As someone who personally doesn't love what is commonly the style of new urban infill, I find BP to be on the decent end. I think the later phases are especially solid from an aesthetic standpoint (like the units at the corner of Frascati and W76). They're no Knez Homes, thankfully. Truth. Those Knez townhomes in downtown Willoughby are reason enough to not let them try any more daring urban infill....
  2. From Scene Magazine: If Cleveland Had a Bigger, Better Metro Railway, This is What it Might Look Like Posted By Sam Allard on Wed, Jan 18, 2017 at 10:47 AM Jake Berman, Studio Complutense All credit to Jake Berman, who posted this imaginary map to reddit. Given that Ohio can't be bothered to adequately fund public transit, and given RTA's menu of impending financial disasters, the above is merely a pipe dream. But imagine! Mr. Berman left no stone unturned. In the "Special gameday service" box, he envisions the following promotion: "Show your ClemCard at Browns Stadium [sic] and get one free paper bag with every Browns ticket!" http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2017/01/18/if-cleveland-had-a-bigger-better-metro-railway-this-is-what-it-might-look-like

Amen. This latest episode with Public Square is further exposing his ineptitude. I'd love to see someone come in and shake up the entire city organization. Its become dysfunctional with services. They are about to get an infusion with more tax dollars, but I worry it will just go to waste with more city employees sitting around doing nothing all day.
  4. Only one of these guys was picked number one. Contrast this with the list of 24 names once on that mannequin at Brokaw... The Steelers’ win will continue an insane run of QB dominance in the AFC Ben Roethlisberger didn’t reach the end zone in the Steelers’ AFC Divisional Round game Sunday. But he and the Steelers did reach the AFC Championship Game. There, they will square off against the New England Patriots, guaranteeing that either Roethlisberger or Tom Brady will represent the AFC in the Super Bowl, continuing one of the most incredible, insane and mind-boggling runs of quarterback dominance in NFL history: http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/steelers-win-will-continue-insane-run-qb-dominance-afc-011617
  5. Which one was selected #1 in the draft? We need the best possible player at #1. There may still be some pretty darn good QBs with later picks.
  6. Buffalo Central Terminal was heralded as one of the premier examples of railroad art deco architecture when it was built in 1929 http://www.thevintagenews.com/2016/07/04/priority-buffalo-central-terminal-heralded-one-premier-examples-railroad-art-deco-architecture-built-1929/
  7. Imagine if it actually served a purpose other than scenic....with a stop in downtown Cleveland and downtown Akron!
  8. Just saw this job posting on RTA's Twitter from a couple days ago that gave me a laugh: Greater Cleve RTA ‏@GCRTA Jan 9 NOW HIRING: Legal Intern http://ow.ly/eRmz307Gc41    They probably need a few dozen to run documents back and forth from W 6th to City Hall!
  9. From RTA Twitter today: Greater Cleve RTA ‏@GCRTA 8h8 hours ago NOW HIRING: District Business Analyst http://ow.ly/p2Qi307Gfwk What is a "District Business Analyst?"
  10. If only our mayor preferred to subsidize a $12 million air route rather than a 1,000 foot bus route extension! :whip:
  11. Why not just add decorative fencing along Superior so the throngs of post-millenial 5-somethings don't wander into traffic. Anywhere else in the world where their are much more crowded pedestrian situations, this is what a city does. Picadilly, Times Square, and even lesser intersections like Damen/Milwaukee in Chicago?
  12. It's definitely doing well, busy whenever I pass through (which is almost always daytime). Nice blend of old and newer, and the activity has some depth beyond the main street. The city needs to step up their visions at the corner of Erie and Vine Sts. The city's crucial intersection has a god-awful new build courthouse, a BP station and 2 suburban-style banks. They can change the complexion there by promoting walk-ability.
  13. Can someone explain how/why these vehicles are parked inside Public Square? It appears counter productive for the argument vehicles are unsafe and can cause terrorism. I do agree the park is more active than just one day's view in January but I also find any large planned event at Public Square ,such as Winterfest tree lighting, perm is would be pulled to have Superior Ave. closed. I also believe a compromise could be agreed upon where Superior Ave is open weekdays and closed on weekends when most families and events could be planned. I also wonder if the decorative pavement continuing thru Superior Ave was removed and it was clear there were 2 distinct areas for pedestrians to use would people still have difficulty understanding Superior as less of a safety risk and chance for terrorist activity. Mayor Jackson's terrorism slant is complete BS. If I wanted to run over people with a truck on Public Square, there's a perfectly good spot to do it by driving a truck northbound on Ontario and staying straight! Is he going to put in jersey barriers around the entire perimeter? The guy is a complete moron.
  14. My only problem with the tip on the receipt is the same that I have at Starbucks--you're asking me to tip you before I've even received the food and service. The tip should come after the experience, not before it.

Not Cleveland, but something most of us here are pushing for: Buffalo’s New Zoning Code Promotes Density, But Is It for Everyone? Buffalo, New York’s new citywide, form-based zoning code has every buzzword an urbanist could hope for: Signed into law by Mayor Byron Brown on Tuesday, the Green Code promotes walkability, density, mixed-use development and complete streets redesigns. It preserves the character of the city’s historic neighborhoods, while calling for diversity and affordability. It even eliminates mandatory parking minimums, making Buffalo the first major city in the U.S. to do so. It’s the city’s first comprehensive zoning update since 1953. https://nextcity.org/daily/entry/buffalo-green-code-zoning-density
  16. I totally disagree. Through buses destroy the goal of a unified public park that was the project's genisis and is why the PS rebuild has been so universally. If this is the case, why was there ever a roadway and bus shelters put in the park? It's PUBLIC Square, and it's been a transit hub since the dawn of our city. Key Bank trying to make it into Crocker Park is not what we need.
  17. I'm sure the amazing and wonderful Mayor Frank Jackson could sway them with the help of his friends at the FTA.
  18. Can you drop this in an email to Mayor Jackson? He apparently doesn't understand this....
  19. If you watch Mayor Jackson's bumbling press conference on the subject, that was his line of thinking as well. "Show me the breach!"
  20. Or have your corporate cronies ante up the $12 million to keep their Public Square "fresh and clean". While you're at it, have Forest City and Key reimburse RTA for the additional cost for miles/fuel.
  21. FWIW, my wife works for a large healthcare company and has hosted several large internal meetings there. These are the kind of events that don't end up on the marquee, but are happening there.
  22. ^^Mayor Jackson should spend the weekend reviewing these....
  23. Clearly not all the parties are on the same page either. Mayor Jackson continues to say that RTA and Calabrese agree with his position. But as recently as today, RTA is responding to complaints via twitter saying that "we're ready to resume ops thru Public Sq as soon as we are permitted by the city..." Hmmmm.....
  24. I don't understand what Mayor Jackson is having a hard time understanding about the "breach" of the FTA agreement. Is he just stalling? It sounds like a childish argument.
  25. Seems like the easy solution is to open Superior. Use the Square as designed. While I appreciate Jackson's concern about terrorism, I just don't consider Cleveland as a likely target. Besides, there are a lot more people at other locations where the damage could be greater. Nor would some "Road Closed" signs do anything to stop a speeding truck from entering a crowd. That can be accomplished from many points around the square as well. I've never been very impressed with Frank Jackson as a visionary or a leader, now I'm 100% convinced he's an idiot.
