  1. I just hope they keep up the maintenance. If there's anything we know about the City of Cleveland, if there isn't the public watching over the employees every move, they are probably asleep in the corner somewhere and not maintaining Concourse D!
  2. Most PD articles on Hopkins are like PR pieces for the airlines: Spirit is starting service to XXX, Frontier is cutting service to XXX. I doubt anyone at the PD is willing to risk their careers through losing city contacts and asking those questions. Sad, but true. Maybe Scene would take a stab at it, because all the questions above are valid. I wonder if the PIT director gets and commission for growth? Incentivized compensation seems like a great way to fill that position, but I'm sure the city can't and won't attempt such a thing. If they ever fill the spot it will be a crony put in there to check the status of the carpeting and collect a check until the pension kicks in.
  3. Not surprising since the "supervisor" is probably just somebody's cousin or uncle. And this little bit of potential waste can be multiplied by hundreds. Maybe RTA can save itself some money by merging with the city of Cleveland and letting Darnell Brown run their operations too.....
  4. How Transit Fared in the 2016 Election It’s finally over. Last night, after 20 months of primaries, campaigning, debates, ugly scandal, drama, allegations of criminal activity and so much more, Americans cast their ballots and chose their 45th president: Donald Trump. Of course, the presidential race overshadowed essentially everything else. But there were a litany of important local, regional and state issues up for a vote yesterday including an unprecedented number of transit-related ballot measures. Voters in cities and counties around the U.S. decided on nearly $200 billion in transit funding, the most in any single election in the country’s history. One could optimistically read that as city and regional governments and voters recognizing that transit is an important piece for quality of life. Transit Center’s Jon Orcutt says it’s likely as much a product of necessity as it is desire. https://nextcity.org/daily/entry/vote-transit-bills-2016-election

And Mother Love Bone proved to be the defining band that bridged hair metal to grunge. I wonder how the world would be different if Andrew Wood had lived? Eddie Vedder would just be another Cubs fan trying to get a seat at Progressive Field.... (sigh).
  6. ^^agreed 100%. Also in a city where the COO is a former water meter reader who "worked his way up the ranks."
  7. How is PIT run differently than CLE? IRC it is a multi-county regional authority vs a city-run facility?
  8. They were talking to CLE and the discussions were very detailed. I guess they went home and decided PIT's deal was better. I'd sure like to know if PIT offered any subsidy (which is how they got their Paris flight) - something CLE has been unwilling to do. Since CLE is a self-sustaining entity that is having budget issues, how would they ever afford the subsidy? It will be interesting to review Hopkins 2016 books and see if there has been any financial recovery since the de-hubbing in 2013.
  9. ^^One "eye" on the nose ring (prize). It's pretty awful, and just one of the many reasons Chief Wahoo should slowly disappear....

As long as the Tribe brings their bats tonight--I think this is accurate. They got to get to Arrietta early and don't let him get established at all. The crowd can help with this--provided they aren't 50% Cubs fans!
  11. I am praying for the Tribe to close out tonight in Wrigley. I fear too much "Cleveland Kharma" with a Cubs comeback to make up for the Cavs amazing feat!

At that time touring was a losing proposition, designed to break even and sell records. Michael Jackson didn't need help in this department. MTV did his promotion for him. The Victory Tour was Michael's way of getting the rest of the family out of his pockets. Not sure it worked for long....
  13. ^^This makes sense. A downtown office for a quick appointment while on break? I would trade 10 more of these for just ONE of those built-at-an-interchange hospitals that the Clinic and UH are using to check their phallic sizing. If you want to find waste in healthcare, they are being built at suburban exits all over America.
  14. Well that's come full circle from just one page prior on this thread! :)
  15. I agree--that entire area bounded by St Clair, the tracks, 55th and the Innerbelt would make some amazing lofts. There are actually a few sprinkled in there--if you drive around at night I've seen some that look like people are doing a live-work thing. Unfortunately, very few of the buildings are abandoned and most house long-functioning businesses.
  16. That would be too awesome! INFAMOUS! BUTCHER! He also has some times to here--at one time he dated a Cleveland gal? I used to see him here all the time....
  17. I'm glad to read this. I am as well, but it must be a fluke. Everyone in my neighborhood is up in arms over the horrific response times. Lots of talk of the Wild West....everyone get your guns and protect the neighborhood without the help of police!
  18. You won't see that in Cleveland, where the idiotic union leadership via Steve Loomis, the Department of Justice and Mayor Jackson have turned policing into a joke. Go ahead--get into a traffic accident in Cleveland and see what the response time logs in at. If you're lucky you'll see a cop within 4 hours.
  19. Despite their stupidity, I doubt these guys would venture that deep into Lakewood to hit that GetGo. They would surely attract a swarm of Lakewood PD within seconds.
  20. we've heard that year...after year...after year. Agreed, however this year it feels different. We have a rookie QB that is competing. We have a young defense that's competing. And other than the New England game, most have been entertaining.
  21. Amazing how many rail spurs leading to the docks!
  22. Well once again, another competitive game from a young team. I'm already excited for 2017!

Funny/sad story. Back in the late 80's our high school had a "trade day," where you could try your hand at doing some blue collar work and maybe go that career route. A flighty girl who looked like Kim Kardashian and always got into trouble (in hindsight she probably had ADD too) became obsessed with the brick laying demo. She wouldn't let anyone else have a turn! I'd never seen her focus her energy on anything other than stretch pants and her hair and makeup...this was NJ after all. The trade guys, amused, let her work diligently for an hour. Then at the end they flat out told her that she couldn't be a bricklayer. I'll never forget how she looked very hurt by this. How did she turn out?
  24. Meh...Sox fans are overrated. I don't know how old you are but they were a great base prior to winning a title. Then Boston teams became trendy. Many Sox fans I meet have only a cursory knowledge of baseball. I have nothing against Boston, though. Celtics fans may be 1000 times more obnoxious than Sox fans but every one I have met knows basketball inside and out. Total respect there. The Red Sox have always enjoyed 2 fans. The "real" Red Sox fans who suffered through the years of misery, and the douche-bag frat-boy Red Sox fan who spent a summer in the mail room at John Hancock during his undergrad at Eastern Michigan and needed a summer baseball hat to compliment his South Carolina GameCOCKS hat while hitting the bars for some Golden Tee ball crushing. This equation has multiplied substantially since the Red Sox successes of this century. And now you know why Donald Trump is a star....
  25. ^^Do the warehouse district residents complain about the music from the clubs, or the music of the kids who park in the street at 3 am and block traffic?
