  1. ALCS here we come! Let's hope the year of Cleveland continues and we can end Toronto's year once again!
  2. I agree--to a point. People still have lives and need to get up and go to work. When I lived downtown at the Chesterfield we were always dealing with loud stereos parking up in front of the convenience store on 12th. It's not a problem until the loud noise is parked under your window.
  3. I've been talking smack with all my Boston friends for a few days. They all wish they had Tito!

I agree with them 100%. Refuse to use them (but I also don't shop Wal Mart).
  5. Perhaps they could include funding for public art on them, both in painting and lights for nighttime distant viewing? The Goodtime and Nautica Queen could add them to their itineraries to go and see the art close-up.
  6. ^^I weep for our country. This corridor begs for high speed rail, and it takes 2 hours for a train to go Dearborn to Toledo? Donald Trump had one thing right in the debate--we need to start spending on ourselves. Airports, rail and bridges. All putting Americans to work.

Where you see an Ikea and outlets, I see a modern Justice Center complex! But I would take either--good idea!
  8. Lucky? Most people believe the Brand is tired and needs a refresh. Just a general question, who here would look at a R-C first, if Going Luxury? Park Hyatt, Mandarin Oriental, St. Regis, and Four Season knock it out the park. The Peninsula, Fairmont & Waldorf brands may be fight to keep with Marriott. I agree. In my Sim City world, Dan Gilbert would relegate this to the B-rate "high roller hotel" and put up a high-end property as a part of Phase II. Four Seasons in Cleveland? Yes please!
  9. I would have loved to see Coleman, Pryor and Gordon working with Wentz (assuming he didn't get killed every time he took a snap!)
  10. It's gotten a little ratty over the past couple decades, but definitely feels like a rebound is about to happen. All these projects plus seeing quite a few home rennovations going on. The upgraded Clifton and Shoreway are finally taking effect.
  11. I just happened to remember--I landed at CLE at 7:00 Saturday evening and the entire west end of the ticketing concourse was already closed for business. Not a soul to be seen at the United end...truly sad.
  12. Income is 50% higher but then they take 40% of that to pay for the "Free" healthcare. Where do you get that 40% from? In that same tax bracket, the US takes approx. $5,000 plus 25% of anything over approx. $37,000. If my math is correct, with a $75,000 income and not including any deductions, the tax bill for an individual would be roughly $15,000 Canada takes 15% on the first $43,000 and then 22% on the next $48,000. Again using the $75,000 figure, that gets you closer to $17,000 for the tax liability for an individual. Thank you for this. The fuzzy tax math here in the USA is used to keep people fearing socialism! Yet we pay almost as much and get nothing in return! Military, we get lots of military. Useful to all the other socialists of the world for protecting THEIR way of life.

  14. http://www.bea.gov/newsreleases/regional/gdp_metro/2016/gdp_metro0916.htm I've been thinking about this alot lately and I think it comes down to leadership. Our local leaders are deplorable and those on the state level aren't much better. They are only sitting their collecting checks, not creating broad strategies to cut our losses and rebuild into a city and state people want to move to. Just take a look at our transit systems-in a time when young people are abandoning cars and flocking to cities, our leaders continue to think it's 1950!
  15. Where are our political leaders on this? Mayor Jackson and the plethora of city council members? State and federal legislators? It's funny how when ODOT threatens to delay the second half of the innerbelt bridge that they were out in force, but they are sitting on their hands watching our rail system circle the drain! KJP[/member]--it may be time for a form letter and list of office emails and/or addresses that we can circulate at least on UO to have everyone drop to Mayor Jackson, etc. Could All Aboard Ohio compose something stating facts on the current and looming budget crisis?
  16. Yes, the Denver media market is very close in size to the Cleveland media market And yes Cleveland has light(ish) rail from the airport. When it's working. Sometimes without shuttle buses and sometimes on two tracks. Just don't get out at Tower City if you're physically challenged. :-P s to You can get out at Tower City...it's getting back on that's the problem. Details details! If you do choose to get back on, there will be helpful "customer service" agents to yell at you and your children if you don't comply with their unintelligible instructions!

  18. According to the project site, there is another public meeting scheduled for October 6. http://www.dot.state.oh.us/projects/ClevelandUrbanCoreProjects/LakefrontWest/Pages/default.aspx
  19. I love the balconY (singular stressed). Why not more of them on the building? It just appears to be one floor?
  20. You hear that? All the silence. I do I do! Apparently my sarcasm was silent as well! Go Browns! :-P
  21. ^^That would make sense to have them installed seasonally--but so many seem like permanent installations? Maybe the subject of a Tacky Post-War Suburbia thread? :)
  22. Horrible idea. Put that money in a fund towards the multi-modal transit center with a bridge over the top of it.
  23. I have never understood the awning thing either--especially in a state that is starved for sunshine most of the year! I figured it had some roots in post-war second-generation immigrants buying houses?
  24. Where is the 2016 Browns record poll? Always good for some fun here on UO! I wonder if the new enthusiasm for Cleveland teams after a Cavs Championship and and Indians World Series will carry over? :)
  25. I think this goes further than budget cuts with RTA. The entire organization is filled with nepotism and cronyism--plenty of people sitting downtown and turning their heads if something is "not their job." I think we've all interacted with bus or train operators that couldn't be bothered to have one ounce of customer service skills, mainly because they don't have to. They have no fear of reprisal or repercussions for complaints. I'm sad to admit this, but I've traveled the world and ridden subways and buses in some poor countries (Bulgaria, Mexico, Manilla and Brazil come to mind). They are far cleaner in most cases and the employees are much friendlier. While I do support transit funding, I think some cultural upheavals need to be imposed on RTA as well.
