  1. I feel that. I'm pretty sure that if all thesee folks had to walk more than a block, they would keel over and die. When I did jury duty last year I rode the rapid in, but most of my fellow jurors were parking in "the pit." And yes, you're correct--they didn't stop talking about how bad downtown is and how far they had to walk until at least lunchtime....
  2. For those Cleveland.com posters who think they are safe in their cul-de-sacs and shopping malls: Woman robbed at gunpoint outside Great Northern Mall http://www.wkyc.com/news/local/cuyahoga-county/woman-robbed-at-gunpoint-outside-great-northern-mall/24940194
  3. Welcome Riverbender. Cool name! Here's the skinny on Landmark Aviation's development... http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,9545.msg739532.html#msg739532 I cross posted in BKL thread--Landmark was recently sold to a competitor. Will operate under Signature Aviation. I'm glad their new FBO is not affected! http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/24/business/dealbook/bba-aviation-to-buy-landmark-aviation-for-2-1-billion.html?_r=0
  4. And a FYI for everyone, Landmark was recently sold to it's competitor. Will soon rebrand to Signature Aviation. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/24/business/dealbook/bba-aviation-to-buy-landmark-aviation-for-2-1-billion.html?_r=0
  5. Funny stuff. Homeboy probably called CPD thinking he'd be 30-40 minutes down the road before they showed. Instead it was passed to Lakewood, who probably showed up in 30-40 seconds, and got himself arrested in the process! :)
  6. What newsletter is that? Do you have a link? I'm following him on Facebook but he didn't post about that. Here you go: http://www.clevelandcitycouncil.org/media/documents/publication/Ward15/ward-15-zone-winter15-16-web.pdf And it's buried on the the last page. Here is the blurb from the letter: Starbucks to Open in Former Charter One Location on Clifton Boulevard Already one of their busiest locations in the city of Cleveland proper, the existing Clifton Boulevard Starbucks will be opening in a larger, totally renovated space just one block west of its current location. The spacious new Starbucks will feature a drive up window, convenient parking and bright new interior. Grand opening is planned for early June

Cleveland seems like an obvious choice for a Great Lakes cruise stop... :drunk: One lakeshore city hopes to be port-of-call for two cruise lines this year http://www.mlive.com/news/muskegon/index.ssf/2016/01/one_lakeshore_city_hopes_to_be.html
  8. I remembered this from a KJP post in the Cleveland Development thread a while back:

This has worked very well throughout history. I actually think zoning, or at least the day to day enforcement of it, is one thing government does good. The planning commission has regular meetings, keeps things public, and does their job from what I can tell. It is a completely different story in Cleveland for changing zoning laws to adapt to the times, or the day-to-day mundane functions of government like waste collection or snow removal. :whip:
  10. Almost any building built in any city in America is subject to review for the developer to receive it's permits. Just imagine if Stark wanted to make a 55 story copy of Rhodes Tower or the Justice Center. Would you let him do that without review?
  11. Makes a lot of sense with the other calming projects on Clifton. Too bad Lakewood didn't put in the medians....
  12. U.S. Army Corps sinks to new low in Cuyahoga River dredge deception: editorial http://www.cleveland.com/opinion/index.ssf/2016/01/us_army_corps_sinks_to_new_low_in_cuyahoga_river_dredge_deception_editorial.html#incart_river_home
  13. Allegiant Air operates one of the oldest commercial fleets in this country. This MD88 was put into service in 1989. While not inherently unsafe due to age, you have to figure there is a couple bad apples floating around.
  14. That's a good point, too. Maybe if non-residents were given a voice, certain priorities might change (for better or worse). But this could hurt Cleveland if a suburban agenda was inserted into our fabric (more than it already has been). The real solution is a pooling of all tax dollars, with an equitable distribution. Suburbanites make more money here, but also drive on the roads, and we finance the highways to get them to the city roads. All this doesn't fall from the sky....

  16. At least our Senators are agreeing on spending more money for the good of Ohio... Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman 'demand' that Cleveland Harbor dredging be handled properly WASHINGTON -- Ohio's U.S. senators, in open war with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers over the handling of waste from Cleveland Harbor dredging, today demanded that the Corps spend more than Congress budgeted so it can dispose of the waste properly and not just dump it in the open waters of Lake Erie. http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2016/01/sens_sherrod_brown_and_rob_por_1.html#incart_river_home

Many sources sharing it now, including Sports Illustrated, etc....
  18. Whenever a Giant Eagle closes somewhere, the angels rejoice! Let us not weep for an unemployed self-checkout computer, for they shall find a home in another location, to further back up the lines of angry customers!
  19. By "bloated" I meant the payroll....not population, other than most of them probably have the same or more working for them with less residents to serve.
  20. More reasons to combine these bloated burgs.... Parma cuts clothing allowance, sick-time cash out for City Hall employees in 2016 PARMA, Ohio -- The city of Parma will save about $79,500 this year by cutting the clothing allowance for about 175 City Hall employees. The same employees will not receive raises this year or be permitted to trade unused sick leave for cash, under the same contract. http://www.cleveland.com/parma/index.ssf/2016/01/parma_cuts_clothing_allowance.html#incart_m-rpt-1
  21. There are already 4 retail spaces in Battery Park. I didn't say there wasn't. Obviously the Battery Park Powerhouse is a part of the development.
  22. For the next 10 years the bus would probably have to get up to 60 mph as few people are following the new speed limit.
  23. Without SOME sort of mixed-use properties, these neighborhoods become nothing more than a high-density cul-de-sac.....

The conspiracy theorist in me wants to believe the Cavs did this on purpose to get in the Warriors already-swollen heads, then show up in the finals and stomp them with their REAL team play... :)
