  1. I just wonder what places like Crocker Park will look like in 20 years. The suburbs don't have a great track record of maintaining and saving. It's easier to just build new. Another developer will come along and deliver "convenience" with a new development in Avon Lake and BOOM--Crocker Park ghetto.... :-P
  2. Grumpys Cafe in Tremont has great breakfast/brunch.
  3. Because the Browns bring such prestige to the city of Cleveland... And I'd actually be curious to see how much of an economic impact the Browns have on the city. I'd expect it's less than most people would think Less. Much less. Much much less. Think about the opportunity cost of the land the stadium is on and what could be done there, be it more Port activity or more multi use development You really think a multi-use development, say like the Flats East Bank (similar size and land-use), would generate more than an NFL team? I'd like to see the numbers.
  4. Until someone provides a compelling study and analyis and study of the numbers (something clearly missing from the Crain's article), I'm going to continue to extrapolate that the Browns have an impact via these and other means: $100 Million in player payroll. What other Cleveland companies are in this payroll range? Visiting team jock taxes Admission taxes Ticketing fees Suite sales Stadium rentals for non-NFL events Merchandise sales Concessions, parking, food, both in stadium and downtown districts Food and beverage sales in regional bars and restaurants Wages for stadium employees, security, off duty cops, etc Ad revenue for local TV and radio networks, along with their salaries for on and off-air employees. Hotel stays for visiting fans and teams Landing fees at Burke (I counted 25+ private planes on the Landmark ramp yesterday--this number doubles for a larger market visiting team) Taxi/Uber revenue on game day RTA revenue on game day (Browns games are one of the single biggest contributors to park-n-ride rail fares from what I've seen) I've spent 3 minutes on this list--I'm sure there are many more. The fact remains, a winning Browns team would erase all this talk. We've lived through the drive and the fumble. We'll make it through this. I just hope in my lifetime.
  5. The Browns have been such a bad image for a city that already has such a bad image. I agree with the one article posted earlier, get them out of Cleveland if it means a developed lakefront and possibly a better image for the city. I was recently in Milwaukee and was blown away by the amount of construction cranes around downtown and how perfect their lakefront seemed, or at least compared to Cleveland's mistake of a lakefront. It is sad that an organization like the Browns has sucked money out of America's poorest city to support renovation's to one of the most mediocre stadiums in the NFL. See ya, Browns! Not to derail this thread but I have to laugh when Clevelanders say this type of thing. We have acres of lakefront land that have been undeveloped for years and somehow tearing down the Browns stadium will cause a mega development on the lakefront? In reality, we'd probably end up with the same kind of Flats East 3-4 story buildings, maybe a Hooters and some other restaurants/bars. Like em or not, the Browns do contribute a massive amount to the economy of this city (and Berea of course). I do side with some of the arguments about Haslem giving back some renovation money, but to lose them all together would be a blow to the economy and prestige of our town.
  6. So, now that we have 3 quarterbacks, who gets the start next week?

Great attendance! Hopefully this mild autumn continues on into winter!
  8. Good news. I'm surprised more of these developers weren't ahead of the curve with the RNC site selection here, but we'll take it. Crossing my fingers that all this downtown hotel and residential will complete before the next stock market "Correction" (Crisis).
  9. All drugs. It will start creeping out into the inner rings more and more, just like the addict that held up the Papa Johns and was gunned down on 480. There are so many hopeless people out there....
  10. At least two of the things (education and home values) on that list are perception-based issues that are worsened by the occurrence of sprawl. Specifically in reference to education, I'll just use Cleveland Heights as an example. The schools in CH-UH offer the same high quality of education as it did 30-40 years ago. The only difference is that it serves a significantly more challenging enrollment base then it did in prior decades which results in lower test scores (which in turn is the basis for some to refer to the schools here as "failing"). I think a similar statement can be made regarding many other inner-ring suburbs, though perhaps not necessarily for a larger system like CMSD. Probably for another thread, but CH/UH school districts also suffer from many non-resident students who register there on relatives addresses to escape the Cleveland and East Cleveland schools.
  11. Maybe not from last weekend, but I mean the "history" of Johnny Manzeil....
  12. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the locker room, or the Haslem/Farmer offices. I'm guessing there is WAY more to this story than a bottle of champagne....
  13. I grew up in Willoughby/Mentor and saw plenty of people fleeing from the same. Start with a bunch of traffic around too way many strip malls, throw in a few minority faces and they were all packing up their leaky Harleys and heading for Madison and Perry....

CLE-OH. Kind of has a ring to it. I am still outspoken in the thought that the casinos should have been built in the Flats during its heyday, and open containers allowed within the entertainment district.
  15. Can't wait to see this gem of a story about Avon... :whip: Buyers snatch up real estate in NE Ohio 'Boomtown' http://www.cleveland19.com/story/30580224/buyers-snatch-up-real-estate-in-ne-ohio-boomtown
  16. I have a friend that lives there who once lost her car for three weeks after parking at the airport for a short trip and having it buried under 48" of lake effect snow.
  17. What is the budget for transporting prisoners? Back and forth? Back and forth? Sometimes multiple times a day. I don't see the jail ever separating from the courts.
  18. LOL @ the artwork. All the people match the snowman (White).
  19. That's a shame. 40 years from now our Urban Ohio offspring will be celebrating the removal....
  20. It probably also helps them that they won't be breaking ground before the RNC, giving them a built in buffer time to work things out....
  21. My only complaint is that this was the perfect site for a new Justice Center complex. If this development actually comes to fruition, my crystal ball would point to Dan Gilbert selling off the Phase 2 casino land, and new Justice Center finding a home next to the Federal Courts.

This is advertising content, but I was impressed that transit is being used in marketing pieces in Cleveland. Cleveland Businesses Take Root Near Transit Lines, Attracting More Customers http://www.cleveland.com/sponsor-content/?scid=109010&prx_t=G-kBAp2EEAlc0LA
  23. why would they do a listing if he was just buying out a family member? For what it's worth, Central Cadillac does pretty damn well, in spite of that location. It's not like they would be closing and I can't imagine another location they could find in the city... A sweet city deal for land on the Opportunity Parkway could make convince them to move, opening up that space for more Midtown Developement.
  24. You won't see many RNC members on the Rapid. They were concerned with this mainly so the help can get to work at the convention.
  25. Don't forget about poor Luke McCown, also in that draft class!
