  1. I was wondering yesterday if this is the first time in my life that I've seen Cleveland "move up" on a ranking list *not releated to BMI....
  2. It definitely benefited O'Hare. Not sure of the flight frequency through Newark, but that certainly went up as well....
  3. I'll contribute to the rumour, having been told by more than one bartender there that it's going away.
  4. LOL--love the picture where the security comes close to outnumbering the patrons. Well conceived!
  5. A subject for another thread, but does anyone here wonder whatever happened to fashion and presenting yourself properly in public? I love those old pictures of train stations, sporting events, etc. Everyone (black, white, boys, girls) are dressed in suits, hats, ladies in dresses.
  6. ^^Always a couple guys working W 117th as well. They aren't super aggressive and generally friendly, but I assume occasionally a passenger gets burned on an expired trip.
  7. Great news. I really think with all the available land on the lakefront, the city should be pushing Burke as an asset. Why do we always have to settle for something less? Let's push the best of both worlds. A downtown airport to push tech/medical industry developments, condos in the parking lot, and a greenway around the outer edge connecting the 72nd St marina with North Coast Harbor. This isn't a stretch people!
  8. It's all pork unless it's for their home districts, where bridges and highways to nowhere are the norm....
  9. The backups are happening from the construction on the Shoreway combined with construction on the innerbelt, not the Enhance Clifton project.
  10. They've been using Clifton as their freeway for the last 50 years. Will be hard habit to break.
  11. Start small. Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither was Ohio State. But they already have a stadium to play in, and the campus vibe is ramping up. I just imagine what downtown Cleveland would look like if 20,000 suburbanite students suddenly starting living between E 18th and E 30th.
  12. Bring on a football program!
  13. Hopefully they took my advice and are adding 10 floors of condos....
  14. I've spent a lot of time in coal fired plants. These structures are really built to last. It may be short sighted to tear down so fast. I was thinking the same thing...but then again I guess it's been there for quite some time. How long has it been since they decorated it for the holidays?
  15. Wasn't sure if this should go here, or the demolition thread. I'm hoping for something worthwhile on the lakefront, even with the Shoreway there... FirstEnergy's Lakeshore power plant will be demolished CLEVELAND, Ohio -- FirstEnergy is preparing to demolish its century-old Lake Shore power plant at E. 70th Street and South Marginal Road adjacent to the East Shoreway. FirstEnergy closed the last of the power plant's coal-fired boilers in April. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2015/08/firstenergys_lakeshore_power_p.html?hootPostID=8424393cecf92b1dffd5297384e613ca
  16. Let's not forget that Dan Gilbert in the mix in Cleveland too, with hundreds, if not thousands of jobs and some development. I wish more billionare tycoons were as civic-minded as Dan.
  17. what exactly has Gilbert done for Detroit besides swoop up a lot of distressed property at bargain prices. Has he substantially rehabbed any? Has he brought any real employment base downtown for the suburbs? When I lived in Detroit, there was a lot of talk of him bringing 3000 jobs from Livonia but it never happened. The number I've recently heard touted was 12,000 jobs directly tied to Gilbert in Downtown Detroit. This article was from last year: http://www.forbes.com/sites/joannmuller/2014/09/29/gilbertville-a-billionaires-drive-to-rebuild-the-motor-city/
  18. See what happens when he's not in the clubs chasing the ladies.
  19. Every family in every home then was probably mother/father + 4-5 children.

This is likely just the tip of the iceberg. There is a rumor going around that he has a personal financial stake in a local brewery too. Which in itself is probably not a problem unless that brewery is getting any special treatment from the City. He better retire quick and start collecting his second salary. Somebody get Kevin Kelley on the phone! :)
  21. I would like a button at the bottom of a thread to go straight to the page with "new replies to your posts." It would safe a step from clicking on the main forum page, then clicking again on "new replies to your posts." Other than that no issues with the site--everything works well, so no need to fix! :)

  23. Look at how it compliments the building across the street though. I don't trust the developers in this town. The Harbor Inn is a nationally famous place with tons of character and a great history. I actually worry about the possibility of a stucco looking Hustler Club 2.0 style building taking its place. Absolutely accurate. We can't afford to let our oldest bar get knocked down for a potential development. SAVE THE HARBOR!
  24. I've stayed at that Aloft on Washington in MSP recently. The neighborhood is definitely booming--1,000's of apartments and more being built. Hopefully FEB will follow suit shortly!
  25. We've been hearing those rumors for a while now, but still, what an awful idea. Tower City Cinemas are much more accessible to moviegoers from both sides of the city as well as downtown residents. Crocker on the Cuyahoga indeed. Well away from the noisy teenagers that yell, text and laugh at Tower City movies. I don't go there any more for that reason, as well as the theaters projection and audio were out of date.
