  1. Definitely true--but the people the NFL are courting are not blue collar. They need them club seat and suites revenue in LA to make the model work. Those types of people won't sit in traffic for three hours to get to a stadium.
  2. Dead on. I'm sure if Lucky's were to do a design like this with a patio upstairs, it would be packed daily!
  3. There is also major traffic issues with a crowd that is not the blue collar variety that makes up most other NFL markets. They aren't getting up at 6 am to drive to Pasadena and tailgate with their buddies from the steel mill. They want to leave the house an hour before and be in their club seats. That ain't happening in LA....
  4. I hope the western Red Line portion isn't on buses, like I saw this weekend!

Anytime their are big rains Lake Erie gets that way near the shore. Unfortunately people are dirty and their garbage and waste get washed out there via streams, rivers and sewers. Also makes for some dangerous boating!
  6. I was there with you in the 80's for the heartbreak. If the Browns ever go to the Superbowl this town will explode in mass hysteria.
  7. Hasn't stopped you from paying attention to the Browns! We are all a little guilty of that. It's human nature in these parts.
  8. ^^ Just think. He may never see a Browns championship team. Could have been my baby picture 4 decades ago as well....
  9. Just saw the development in Little Italy posted over on that thread. This is the kind of building I'd like to see there--with ground level retail and apartments above. Maybe not 6 stories, but certainly 3 would work.... http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2014/11/visconsi_details_plans_for_205_1.html
  10. I also think that we have a dearth of thoughtful, innovative developers in this region, thanks to decades of no projects of this nature. They are starting to come around now--but I don't think this particular developer is suited to this site. Their background is suburban retail strips.
  11. Or give them the freedom to improve their condition. And in my experience most want to. A few that don't are the ones who get the headlines and ruin it for the others. Many do. The welfare and housing rules prohibit ANYONE in the household from earning too much money. So the children in the projects are dissuaded from getting a normal teenage position at McDonalds. Those fast food restaurants on 30th Carnegie have a huge supply of employable people, but they have to bus in teenagers from other areas because none of the kids around there can work. That is wrong.
  12. More specifically he was referring to the recent opposition to the building of townhouses on Lake Ave between West Blvd and Clifton. Those residents also fought density, despite the fact the lived within the same block as several 4 story prewar brick apartment buildings contributing to an already dense environment.
  13. It actually looks much much better than the original. Hopefully they have it done by the time I retire.

LOL--I remember seeing them at Flash Gordon's on Lorain Ave back in the late 80's---they were still rocking this look, though reeling it in a bit....
  15. I hope their about to start their second half of the season run for the division!
  16. WORLD SERIES!
  17. Right now there's a ladder visible between the original and the new exterior. I'm guessing the gap between the two is easily accessible at some point. Now there's a job I could never do...claustrophobic heights!
  18. Driving around today I am amazed at how much construction is going on. All these people building things, resurfacing roads, erecting buildings has got to be giving Cleveland a good shot in the arm, certainly eclipsing the 1990's Cleveland uptick! Last night at Crocker Park I even thought I saw a Buffalo-based construction firm building the hotel there...are we officially out of construction contractors in this region?
  19. It felt to me as an ODOT bargain. They agreed to the reduction in speed, but not removal of the ramps, or adding at-grade intersections. In the end it should be an improvement still on the quality of life in the area, and might someday lead to a full conversion. Maybe all the way to the muni lots if the Main Ave Bridge gets to the end of it's life span
  20. I drove it today at 7:30 am. No backups, the slowdowns were causing commuters to actually do the speed limit of 40 (as opposed to the 65 MPH they were doing yesterday afternoon when I drove it). Your sentiments probably have some validity with the diehard suburbanite commuters, who think nothing less than a 8 lane highway directly to their office with a free parking space is what their tax money supports. There could also be a segment of this population who looks at living or staying downtown, or closer to downtown, or using RTA, etc instead of packing up an office of people and moving out of dodge over a temporary inconvenience.
  21. I'm happy something is being done. But this is super suburban. Agreed that the Dollar Bank is a waste of space. Not worthy of an area with one of the highest densities between NYC and Chicago. I don't get it.... :wtf: Leadership?
  22. Yeah facing 116th makes no sense for this site. And I hope that second story patio is real, and not some sort of Universal back lot treatment like the Walgreens at 117th/Detroit.

    On a lighter note: http://m.mlb.com/cutfour/2015/06/23/132499578/miguel-cabrera-delivers-bat-gloves-to-young-fan
  24. They had to close down a runway for extra parking space for Game 6. Interesting the economic development stats--and I think it could be much better if the City actively used it to attract companies. Should be interesting to see the new Landmark Aviation building take shape. And as I've stated upthread, use the extra space on the airport to our advantage. We should build Mid-rise condos in the parking lot. We should dedicate a greenway bike/running trail around the outer perimeter of the field for lake access. And we should re-open Aviation High school!
