  1. That's surprising. And for another $75 million, they'll tear those off and fix the problem....
  2. This is what I was getting at as well above--after a long day of work, or film festival, maybe a few drinks, the last thing I want is to be stopped on my way out the door. What would he have done if she had tossed the fare card out on the platform?
  3. Wouldn't it make sense for the said officer to be working up at the top of the stairs, at the end of the platform? What if an innocent person tossed their fare card out in a trash can on the way down?

I don't understand the resistance to repair old roads then. Don't the same contractors still benefit? Especially if we're putting more money into better repairs? The roads will have to be repaired eventually in any case. Building the new road is new business, not just existing. Yes understood, but in the short term there is probably enough repair work to keep every contractor in the state busy for the next 30 years!
  5. I could see how she would have misunderstood the initial contact--she appeared to be on her phone and may have thought the officer was dealing with the other person in the doorway (which he was). I'm guessing there was guilt by both parties--she took offense and so did he. The difference: the transit cop should have kept his cool and remained professional. Once he saw the pass, incident over. Maybe give her a verbal warning to be more cooperative.

  7. It probably wouldn't have been much more to construct a brand new office tower somewhere downtown instead of $120 million into this old one...
  8. I wouldn't go that far. This isn't a city dude...it sounds like a drunk suburbanite out on the town, had a few too many of the liquid courage and was slighted by the guy. It's more disturbing to me that CPD has not responded to him. Some hotel video and a guest list from the event should make this an easy case.
  9. Agreed! Even more radical: Make Opportunity Cooridor into a freeway, we annex East Cleveland, and blow a freeway through there to Collinwood rejoining the 90. Shoreway gone! Suburbanites, happy! ;)
  10. Very. I wonder why they didn't go to A. I could see them avoiding B because of South West.
  11. Sure this will help some city residents. But ultimately this is an ODOT political bone to help west side suburbanites get to work faster. Look at any Cleveland.com article about this--they are all on there complaining about the "warzone" that is Carnegie and Chester. Other than people who can think of "better" (though politically unfeasible) ways to spend the money, who is being harmed? The disadvantaged people of Avon Lake, who may miss the chance for yet another satellite hospital at a new freeway exit in a farm field. ;) I'd rather see ODOT invest the money in fixing our current roads, and updating our bus & rail system to serve these suburbanites.

  13. Rule number 1.5: Be extra cautious with transit cops as they desperately want to be "real cops," out saving the world instead of checking bus passes of women at 11 pm. (Rule #1.5 also applies to college officers).
  14. Wow. That's crazy. There's probably video of that somewhere, as the RTA stations are pretty well covered. Might take an attorney to get your hands on that, but could be worth it.
  15. This would be quite convenient to install streetcars (again).
  16. What about that southern route you've mentioned before, routing the traffic through Berea then back up into Collinwood?
  17. The problem is these youth do not care. About anything. Certainly not cops. If they do get picked up, they are back home by 6 pm with a badge of honor to show off for their friends. We need to start having REAL punishment for these teens. Lock them up for a while. Make them do labor. Is it me, or didn't this happen for St Patricks day 2014 as well. An unruly mob attack? And other RTA incidents? Seems like police should be seeing a pattern.... http://www.19actionnews.com/story/25043654/17-year-old-girl-victim-of-attack-on-rta-rapid
  18. I'm remaining optimistic that this project will start to jumpstart the area again. The bus service really looks good. And people are starting to adhere to the bus lanes (I've seen CPD ticketed during the evening rush at least).
  19. Why would they add 15 more stories on the convention hotel? For what purpose? The county had a narrow scope for this project: to construct a building for a single end user to support the county's investment in the convention center. I agree the county had a narrow scope and focus, but missed an opportunity for new construction residential. But here was an opportunity for an ideal "public/private" partnership. The majority of design and structural costs were paid for via the hotel financing, which could have compensated for the low pricing per SF in the Cleveland market. An element of this could have been long-term corporate housing to compliment the hotel offering and give the convention center/medmart yet another angle to compete.
  20. Since the Cleveland crime thread appears to be locked, going to drop this here since RTA supplied the video: EXCLUSIVE | Melee on Public Square caught on tape CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A roving mob -- or possibly mobs -- were caught on RTA cameras committing random acts of violence on St. Patrick's Day. Channel 3 News Investigator Tom Meyer obtained the video the day after the brawl took place and a week before Cleveland police obtained it. http://www.wkyc.com/story/news/local/cleveland/2015/03/26/melee-public-square-violence-mob-assault-cleveland-police/70497344/
  21. Wow first the power outage last night because of construction and now an explosion today...this is the worst timing possible for things like this to happen. And I'm sure none of this mismanagement will fall on our city's chief operating officer, Mr "Slick" Darnell Brown. At what point will he be held accountable?
  22. Just think, the country could have hit a home run adding 15 stories on the new Hilton. Hmmmm....
  23. I saw UK landing at BKL last night on their chartered 737. Not exactly traveling like hillbillies....dey making money for that school!
  24. That Walgreens is a step above a Hollywood set. I don't understand why developers can't ACTUALLY build a second floor on these buildings today and make them truly mixed-use??
  25. Some of those shows would have space issues at the downtown center, no? I couldn't see the auto, boat or home & garden shows fitting into their current footprints downtown. And then there's the issue of labor costs. The IX Center is non union and can compete below any price structure the convention center presents because they are tied down by union contracts.
