Cleveland: Local Media News & Discussion
This makes me laugh every time I see Wayne's reaction. She really had no idea. About anything. Ever. And yet our top 20 television market outlet hired her as an anchor. Oh she definitely had an idea. Perhaps it slipped out, but you can tell she felt uncomfortable and then started laughing. I don't buy her apology stating complete ignorance. C'mon I just don't understand what about Lady Gaga singing The Sound of Music warrants her description?

Cleveland: Historic Photos
In the early 1990s, my cousin remodeled the bathroom in his Washington DC townhouse. In the wall was a flat-top can of Valley Forge Ale, dated 1934. He offered it to me and asked me if I still collected beer cans. I hadn't since the 1970s, but I knew a valuable find when I saw one. So I accepted his offer and I still have the can. We did my girlfriend's kitchen a while back and found all sorts of things that apparently the children of generations ago were dropping down through the openings in the attic two stories above. The best: empty condom boxes dating from the 1930's.

Cleveland taxi cab stuff
This is not just Wolley. Most of the guys driving the airport circuit have no idea either--probably 3 out of every 4 I take home from the airport I have to provide directions for....

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
The funny thing is of course that the rail industry was the most strong, virile symbol of the laissez-faire 19th century america that those guys love so much. The rail magnates fought tooth and nail against Theodore Roosevelt et all and their trust busting at the turn of the century. Ayn Rand wrote about railroad magnates in Atlas Shrugged, for chrissakes. This is why I am really rooting for that All Aboard Florida project. When people start making money off rail, that's when the political shift will happen. It already has with inner city redevelopment, mixed use projects, etc. We need some trust busting of the concrete lobby! Talk about some crooked practices!

Nothing like opening up a wall etc on these old houses. Most house time capsules, hidden from us for the last 100 years!

Cleveland: Mayor Frank Jackson
Empty factories do not create more work for basic services like snow clearing, for which someone was sacked last week for under performance of duties and not following procedure.

Cleveland: Mayor Frank Jackson
The reason there are "not many quality candidates" each cycle is because this city is so bent on only electing "demon rats" into office each cycle. I, and many other people I know who live in the Cleveland city limits would prefer a non-democrat, but that is not likely to happen with NE Ohio being so far left. IMO the last great mayor the city of Cleveland had was George Voinovich. Whether they be a "demon rat" or "repugnantcan", the next mayor of Cleveland needs to start making some tough decisions. The city is still staffed like there are 500,000 residents, and yet services seem to be as weak as ever. It's time to streamline city contracts and get our government working for residents again.

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
This would be a perfect time for the city to tag on a bike path and fencing around the perimeter, to connect the E9th St Pier with the 72nd St Park.

Agreed. If the pressure to remove Chief Wahoo ever succeeds (as it probably should), I would vote to revert to the Spiders name.

Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport
That's thinking outside the box. I like it. One other concept, and they might be compatable. You have an international container port, an airport that can handle the biggest freight planes (they land a C-5 for the air show), a major rail line, and an interstate highway all within a couple square miles(?). How rare is that? Not a bad idea....but the C5's the land at the airshow are empty. I think to get any amount of freight in or out the runways at BKL are too short. Event the 737 and 757's landing there are only carrying 50-75 people on charters....

That would be amazing, considering that first beer could set you back $10!

Let's be a leader, not a follower. The USA's first downtown, urban airpark. Residential living with your plane and office in walking distance. There is a parking lot in front of the terminal that sits mostly empty 350 days a year. I see a couple mid-rise, high-end condo buildings there (with room to still keep plenty of parking), with direct access to the ramp to get to your plane. An example for suburban and rural planners: http://livingwithyourplane.com/2005/11/15/building-a-residential-airpark/

Based on RTA's numbers. A recent Channel 3 "study" found it much lower (but a topic for another thread). Agreed with you otherwise KJP--we have these tools in our kit. Now how is the city going to use them?
