  1. The old Ohio Knitting Mills was actually between East 59th and 61st north of Euclid. Interested in the history now. Was this related to the Knitting mills at 28th and Detroit?
  2. Agree with all--but the reverse on the starter. I feel Pettine's best bet is to start Manziel. If he ends up flat on his back and not moving the offense (especially on the home field), then we know. This is also important as the Browns front office starts to decide on the future once again with draft picks.
  3. There's an unused parking lot on the SW corner of West 116th and Clifton, next to the closed Charter One bank whose drive-through awaits..... The rumors are once the NE corner development is finished, that corner is the next to get torn down and redone. That would make a logical site for a mega Starbucks.
  4. Right--I guess my point was it wasn't ever supposed to be a full-blown store, so would not replace the current location. I have heard other rumours that Starbucks is interested in the now vacated PNC across the street, but for rush hour reasons this wouldn't really make sense for them either.....
  5. Interesting point. However it was Starbucks' intention to move to be part of the Giant Eagle project. So I guess they had no concerns. According to Matt Zone at the last public meeting on the project, the Giant Eagle/Starbucks combination was never confirmed. It was supposed to be a coffee "section" inside the store. So could have been a non-company owned franchise (like airports, colleges or hospitals sometimes have), or even another coffee vendor other than Starbucks. I always thought the old Hollywood Video where Anytime Fitness currently resides would have made a perfect Starbucks location.
  6. There have been lots of questions surrounding a lapse in training. For instance, from 3 posts above: Just ask Chief Williams, who when asked why the cop drive up on the grass responded " I dont know why they did that"... That says a lot.
  7. I just read that the rookie cop who did the shooting did his police academy and a short stint with the Independence PD. This could explain a lot as I believe the chief there is gung ho and mainly hires ex-Marines. Still no excuse for a lapse in training....
  8. Speaks to the population density! I'd love to see ABGE (anything but Giant Eagle), as long as it is high quality and not just a duplicate of a place like Sapell's. I'd also love to see a neighborhood sports bar. Residential on upper floors would be great. I think the developer is being shortsighted in thinking the residential wouldn't work. That would change with the construction of $500K townhomes right behind it. People would want to live there!
  9. And they certainly seem to be installing them with professionalism and care. It's not like a City of Cleveland crew stood around a hole and threw a tree in it. These guys have some serious equipment and are installing those medians with precision, seemingly taking their time....
  10. I ignored my mother and broke tons of rules, including playing in a ravine in the winter with BB guns. The difference for you and I was--if confronted by a law enforcement officer we certainly wouldn't have taken the gun out and pointed it at him. We may very well have turned and run the other way, but I can probably speak for the both of us that we wouldn't have acted in any sort of macho bravado manner. We would have been scared $hitless kids. And not scared of the police, but of what our moms and dads were going to do when they brought us home. While of course we do not know all the facts yet, that, to me, is the difference.
  11. They already have an attorney. Probably some guy who was at the site handing out business cards.
  12. See my photos on the prior page. It looks just like that, minus the barrels. Hmm...I guess I was hoping for more. It seems like a bunch of random upgrades that collectively fail to create a sense of place. I think I set my expectations too high maybe. Oh well. You should come visit. I feel it's done wonders for the street, and can already envision the rennovations and development that will follow, starting with the corner of 117th.
  13. Unbelievably sad. I just don't understand our country sometimes.
  14. This would be amazing. Some competition for Time Warner Cable would be good too.

Don't be so surprised--she spends a lot of time in NYC. I could see her grabbing a Lift or Uber. Not after's Uber's deal with Spotify! She may not call for a ride. She may call for a flu shot: http://blog.uber.com/healthchicago

Approximately half of professional athlete salaries are taxed. So yes it does buy a few policemen. Plus they pay taxes in every away city they play in. So they are paying for Cleveland and Cincinnati cops as the season goes on....
  18. It's a shame that despite all this planning, debate, review and discourse, the GOP will still book shuttle buses to ferry conventioneers to and from the RRHOF and GLSC for events....

This basically sums up my opinion nicely. The whole point was ease. If it's not easy to use and it's expected to go completely against their entire marketing strategy, why even bother? Exactly. There are other forms as well, like Taxi Magic, which actually make using a Taxi much easier by taking the guessing out of when the taxi is actually going to show. Or, as they have done in markets like Toronto--maybe a taxi and option via Uber. This allows taxi drivers to compete directly with Uber since the service is the same, and theirs is the lowest rate tier. I used it there and the meter fare is what comes back through your Uber charge.

The old model also includes lies, deception and extortion. No thank you, I'll keep Uber. Just build the tip into the service price and call it a day.
  21. Agreed. And I think MD88PILOT and I are about the same age (upper 40s), so we can recall the 1970s when Cleveland and most major US cities were at their lowest. To see them pace the nation's economic recovery despite all that's still against them is pretty remarkable. Lots of work still left to do, but this pace is incredible. And yes, I also agree that if nuCLEus gets built and fills up pretty fast, the more stodgy, less entrepreneurial companies like Jacobs Group will be willing to attempt something on Public Square. Not to mention, more residential towers will be proposed and built. As more residents move downtown, we'll see better everyday services as well is areas developed into shopping incubators. If you noticed nobody is building on Euclid, which leaves it available to return as a retail destination. Prospect is a great street for residential, so are Payne and Chester. NuCLEus' success raises the bar in Downtown and the ripple affect will be felt all over Cleveland. The strong Downtown, the better Ohio City, Tremont, Det-Sh, Central and Payne-Sterling show to renters and buyers. Corporations will then realize the city core is the best way to attract and retain employees. Our friends who have moved outside of Downtown in the last 5 years will 2nd guess those moves to auto centric, far out locations. Amen. Connection connection connection! When Ohio City grows, it will connect to Detroit Shoreway. When Detroit Shoreway grows it will connect to Clifton Baltic. Likewise with Downtown, Midtown, Asiatown and St Clair Superior. With it we shall return this city to a viable place to live, complete with good schools and services. After growing up in the suburbs, I've been living in the City of Cleveland since the early 90's (started with a place in the Chesterfield). The closest I've seen to this kind of growth was the mid 90's heydey of Michael White (and Voinovich spillover). Hopefully we add in the sports teams success of the gay 90's to our current successes!

I like to call them "Hiptler Youth..."
  23. "News channels" is a relative term.

I am not a fan of either party, but I distrust the Republicans more. They say things to please their base when the TV cameras are rolling, then govern in a completely different manner. Case in point: the stimulus cash grab that they all opposed on TV but certainly took home 50+% of the funds to their home districts.
  25. Agreed. Talk about oversaturated! Just wait if the casino ever adds one downtown. That will mess up the market for sure.
