  1. I wouldn't count on it--terrestrial radio is in its death spiral. If the format has worked here in the last 20 years, I doubt it will work as the medium dries up.

  3. I truly don't understand why RTA made the decisions it made with POP. I'd have to believe it's a limited marketplace of suppliers of said equipment. How hard is it to look at the top transit systems in the world and borrow from their technology?
  4. I'd like to hear DeanSheen's opinion, too, but from what my brother who lives at W. 112 and Clifton tells me, the neighborhood is still good. There's been an uptick recently (including a homicide on 112 that sounded drug-related), but so far it's a blip. I really hope that Matt Zone is proactive in protecting this area when he officially takes over from Westbrook, since it's one of the few areas of the city that have never really declined, but maybe that's a discussion for a different thread... It is still mostly good--but the bad elements are ranging further from the proverbial "other side of the tracks." Lots more break-ins with cars and homes these days--but still no where near the volume of neighborhoods like Ohio City and Detroit Shoreway.
  5. POP machines exist with transit systems all over the world, where other bad kids reside. These things weren't built to stand up to the elements or kids. They also weren't built to stand up. :whip:
  6. You should send that pic to the Plain Dealer. Time for them to reopen an investigative piece on trail of money on the POP machine deal. Someone should have been fired.
  7. Agree 100%. Of course we don't have data, but my guess would be that 60-70% of shows booked in the convention center would be regional clientale. Why not make it right given the business we are going to attract? Not everyone likes dealing with valets, especially if you're coming and going, and every time they get your car they have their hand out for a tip. There should be a reasonable amount of self parking available.

  11. Sports must be a big part of the PD readership. If you measure by the comments on Cleveland.com, sports must rule the site. A big news story gets a couple hundred comments at best, but if the Browns announce they will start Weeden, the comments go into the thousands.
  12. Why do you say that about the seats? They are the same seats that have been used in the Blue/Green Line trains since 2007 and the HealthLine buses since 2008. Have you ridden those lines? If yes, what is your experience with those seats? I have, but from the descriptions above it sounded like the red line ones had more padding, which in my opinion would leave them to be gross in short time. But, your point is well-taken KJP. I shall withhold judgement until I see them for myself. My opinion remains unchanged on the digital signage however. Dumb move not putting something in while these cars are in for refurb.
  13. Significant improvement yes. But you still have to question the decision-makers. And these are two "no-brainers" that leave you scratching your head. I give the cloth seats a year at best before they're completely destroyed and no one wants to sit on them.

  18. This one makes sense, too. If the cafe is truly an attraction in its own right, Hard Rock may not want to boost Tower City when it's dominated by its main competitor. Or Rock Gaming may not want said main competitor in close proximity. My information is that Northfield Park blows Horseshoe away by such a wide margin that the latter is likely to have to react strongly. I've heard the very same.

  23. You are absolutely right. Tax revenue is a function of tickets sold and price of each ticket. But you didn't point out any of these things in your fist post. You just jumped down his throat for having a very real concern. We have not heard anything about higher ticket prices. Is it likely? Yes, probably. Which is clearly misleading. Mendo I don't understand either of your responses. I don't see where I "jumped down" anyone's throat, nor do I understand why you say my comment was misleading. If you increase the price of tickets along with the lesser capacity, the city will not lose money. It's math. That's all I was pointing out.
  24. It's not that complicated. All else being equal, reduce the number of seats, you reduce the tax revenue. Are you assuming the extra lower bowl seats or higher ticket prices will make up the difference? It's a real concern. Especially since they are removing seats for a revenue producing scoreboard that the city won't see a dime of. I'm not assuming anything. Was just pointing out that reducing capacity may not necessarily reduce tax revenue if the ticket prices go up.
  25. How is reducing capacity losing the city money? The admissions tax is a percentage, so is dependent on ticket prices, not capacity.
